  • Flavored club soda (with no sodium or sweeteners) is a good substitute. You can also add your own flavoring such as strawberries, cherries, peaches, blackberries, cucumbers, mint, etc.
  • Pico de Gallo (i.e. Salsa) is a nice, healthy summertime snack. Just be careful what you put it on. Here is a recipe I just posted to my blog. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/chefstew79/view/pico-de-gallo-i-e-salsa-559876
  • my advice, don't look for answers here, only you will know the right thing to do for you.
  • I actually won’t marinade a steak (unless it’s a tougher cut of meat such as a london broil), instead Ill hit it with salt and pepper on the grill and put a dab of butter on before serving it. If I’m cooking it inside, I’ll cook it in a cast iron pan with salt, pepper butter but then make a quick pan sauce with red wine &…
  • Gotta try it with spaghetti squash, great idea
  • Pan seared Tilapia with wilted greens in a stewed tomato puree. In a blender puree a can of Italian style stewed tomatoes to make a sauce and keep in blender for a few minutes. Wilt down some greens by steam poaching in water or chicken broth. The greens can be spinach, spring mix, kale, mustard greens, escarole, whatever…
  • Use as a dipping sauce for jalapeno poppers. Sautee shallots (or onions) in a pan, mix in the jam. Then let cool and resolidify in fridge. Make cheese filling: mix cream cheese with chopped cilantro and kosher salt. Cut Jalapenos in half and remove the ribs and seeds. Fill each jalapeno boat with the cheese mixture and…

  • Chimichanga: don’t use olive oil at all, it has a low smoking point and is not suitable for deep frying. Use canola, peanut or vegetable oil (if you are going to fry it). A Chimichanga is essentially a fried burrito, without the fry its just a burrito.

  • Tomato paste pureed in blender with a dash of black pepper, balsamic vinegar, fresh basil & fresh garlic cloves. Note, don’t add salt to a meat marinade as it will toughen the meat (i.e. the salt draws the moisture out). Instead, add salt when you put it on the grill or even serve it
  • Just leave the oil out Puree parsley, garlic, thyme lemon juice, salt & pepper, cilantro. Add a dash of vinegar and grey poupon to help bind it
  • I make pickles all the time, its really simple. Although there are a variety of ways, I do the following: Mix kosher salt with white vinegar until salt is dissolved. Taste it to make sure its not too salty or too vinegary. If so adjust the other ingredient. I also add crushed garlic cloves and red chili flakes. Slice…

  • I’ve eaten a lot of unusual things: rattlesnake, pigs feet, alligator, buffalo, duck liver, snails, squirrel, cow tongue, fish eggs, haggis, blood sausage, a cheeseburger on a krispy kreme donut, sweetbreads, turkey neck, duck organs, etc.. Every time I see something different, I must try it. The oddest (for me) would have…
  • I partially cook by boiling them with the skins on. Next I remove the skins and cut them into slices like scalloped potatoes. I layer those slices in a lasagna pan with brown sugar, sea salt, and curry. Top em with a crumble made from crushed pecans and brown sugar. Bake at 375 for about 40minutes. I also like sweet potato…
  • I just did the same exact thing! I was doing great all day and was 300 calories under my goal. I finished an hour long cardio workout (walking 4 miles up and down hills) but was starving to death almost shaky. Broke down and tried fur pretzels to make the stomach growling go away. That quickly turned into 8. Next had…
