  • You don't have a lot of protein going on. I'm also vegetarian. I find that if I don't have enough protein or its way out of balance with the carbs that I am hungry all day. How about some Tofu, boca burgers or other veggie protein substitute, beans or nuts? I also agree grabbing a piece of fruit or a salad or some steamed…
  • Yay! Someone who actually knows how to research rather than repeating rumours and conspiracy theories.
  • I don't have a designated cheat day. For me, it feels too much like playing the cheat the scale game (where you have something naughty after you get weighed) from when I was younger and first tried to lose weight. I think that is a really unhealthy attitude and something I am trying to break in myself. That is not to say…
  • Jillian! Tough and sexy. lol
  • If my math is right, 200 cals a day is 1400 cals a week and its 3500 calories in a pound. Which means that you would lose about .3 of a pound less than your goal a week (all things being equal, not counting exercise etc.) Maybe your daily calorie limit is too low for you? If you increase it by 200 then you might not have…
  • Here is my thought and what I say comes from my own struggles with whether to diet or not to diet - If you are not in a place where you want to diet then don't. Otherwise it is going to be counter-productive. Don't do it because you think that you should. Its just a way of punishing yourself. It sets you up for failure. To…
  • Diet pils are not the answer to anything. You will do best to follow your doctor's instructions about when and what type of exercise and what diet you should follow. I have to say, I'm not a shrink but seriously that is not a normal reaction to eating four peanutbutter crackers. Your post rings seriously alarm bells. Have…
  • I walk 40 mins to work (2.5Km) five times a week (mostly uphill!). I also walk home (another 2.5Km) probably 2-3 times a week. I do a couple of hours of gardening (weed pulling, digging etc) during the weekends. I'm hoping to get a bike soon. I'm also determined to start doing my hour of bellydancing 3-4 times a week again.
  • You can change your Carb-Protein-Fat ratios. I follow the Zone proportions so I changed mine to 40% Carbs, 30% Protein, 30% Fat. I don't usually have a problem with my balance. With Fat, you want to be thinking good fats like Olive Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Avacado and Nuts and eating good fish like Salmon, Sardines and Mackrel…
  • I also have high blood pressure (which has fallen since starting healthy eating and exercise along with meds). I was told by my Dr to keep it below 1500mg. I find my biggest salt culprit is actually bread. Two slices of regular bread is anywhere from 270-400mg of sodium. I found a low sodium bread (in Australia) which is…
  • Hi Tam, Firstly, congratualtions!!! I'm a bit a lurker on here as I don't post a lot. I wanted to let you know that I've read some of your posts over the past few months and found them (and you) very inspiring. Thanks so much for the time you put into the site and helping people. Wishing you the best, -Tracey
  • Jam is what they call Jelly in Australia. Jelly is what they call Jello. I keep trying to convince all my Aussie friends on the fundamental goodness of PB&J but they don't get it!! BTW - Raspberry Jam & Chunky Peanutbutter.
  • I thought you were going to say something like, the weight is coming off my boobs before its coming off my belly (which has happened to me). lol
  • My suggestion is less is more. Too much cologne is a huge turn-off.
  • If you are like me, I get into trouble when I eat start eating non-complex carbs - white flour and sugars. I would suggest that you concentrate on whole grains and getting enough protein to balance your carbs. I personally opt for the zone (40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat equation (good fats like olive oil, avacado and…
  • Have a look at your percentages of carbs, proteins and fats in your goals. I follow the zone formula so I do 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. You can change your percentages under goals. Fat isn't bad. Bad fat is bad. If you eat olive oil, avacados, nuts, fish oils and soforth it will not keep you from losing weight.
  • Sometimes you just need to remove yourself from temptation, if it is possible. I find that I pick a lot if i'm at the computer in the kitchen. I find it helpful to get up and out into the garden or remove myself and my laptop from the area. Someone on here suggested brushing your teeth as a way to clean the palate and…
  • Yep, gardening rocks for calorie burning. I did a couple hours of weeding this and last weekend. I definately felt it the next day. :)
  • yes, I love that pasta (the sam remo) - it helps balance out the carbs. I got some on clearance at the coles where I used to live. I will have to see if my new coles carries it. :)
  • Try adding a good cold pressed olive oil to your salads, fish or pasta. Not heaps but a tbsp is like 119 calories of good fat. I also agree with nuts, again good fat.
  • *delete double posting*
  • Yes, I know what you mean. My pants are super-loose and if i didnt have big hips they'd be at my knees. My suggestion, kerrilucko, is to invest in a belt. It at least keeps pants from being droopy.
  • I wonder if MFP has us all on the same cycle now. lol I think that retaining water etc is just part of the deal. Sometimes its worse than others. I actually get relieved when I finally get my period because i'm like - oh, thats why I was feeling fat and gross all week. I think just relax and yes, drink water. I also let…
  • Nuts have the good kinds of fat like olive oil etc.. If you don't eat any dairy what do you do for calcium? Eat lots of greens? Personally, for protein I eat seafood, tofu, lowfat dairy, and eggs. I don't eat meat or chicken. I get a lot of protein from tuna, usually for lunch. Egg whites are good but too time consuming…

  • by the way - where did you get that avatar picture?
  • lol i was just thinking about this today. My mom is coming to visit me for the first time at the end of the week.
  • Well, the exercising is definately good. The food sounds really yummy but eating all your calories in one meal is probably not so good. Have you explained that you are trying to lose a bit of weight? He might enjoy getting creative and making some lighter meals. You could also have a big salad before hand and eat half a…
  • i've been avoiding ketchup because of the sodium. I want to try the no salt added stuff. Sounds a bit scary though. lol
  • I walk to work too. It's about 45 mins - 1.6 miles each way. The good thing is that because I moved to somewhere kind of rural, I don't drive, and the bus service is almost non-existant, it forces me to do it. Although the nice woman I work with has been offering me rides home. I figure that walking at least one way is…
  • I don't know about the HG stuff. I've looked at the website and all the recipies look so...plastic? It just seems like nothing is made with real food. Everything is fat free and faux. Maybe it's living in Australia for five years which has less of everything having a fat free, low carb option. I just have the idea that…
