  • I'm from Northamptonshire, so about 40 mins away - add if that's close enough :)
  • For those liking Harry Dresden/John Taylor, try the Alex Verus novels by Benedict Jacka, they're in the same sort of line & very enjoyable. Personal favourite characters of mine include: Raine Benares from the assorted books by Lisa Sherin (Magic Lost, Trouble Found being the 1st in the series). Sir Sparhawk from the…
  • Dungeons of Dredmor! http://www.dungeonsofdredmor.com/ It's a lovely, rogue-like with cartoony graphics & a decent sense of humour & an indepth crafting system. I picked it up on steam fairly cheap & wasn't sure about it, thinking it would do for the occasional 10 minute dungeon crawl... I've put 60 odd hours into it so…
  • Alien! Strangely, I already suspected this
  • I think I'll join you guys. I'm much happier by myself generally. I went on holiday on my own for the first time ever this year & it was utter bliss. I didn't have to worry about anyone else, it was all to my schedule. Can't think why I left it so long!! Generally though, I don't think I could do my job if I wasn't…
  • I had a chat with my gym instructor last night. He said that for forearms/wrists, you can do reverse bicep curls (with a light weight), or holding a bar, flex the wrists, which will help. If you think you've got a hairline fracture, it's definitely worth getting that checked with a doctor.
  • I have this too. I noticed it on Thursday in a class (compound exercises), trying to do a movement with the smallest kettlebell we have (6Kg) and I was totally struggling to lift it. The instructor was paying attention & brought me a 4Kg dumbell instead, which I didn't have the problem with. I've got a gym session this…
  • I think, as many other people have said, you need to tune out everything else, so do whatever helps you to do this. There are some idiots out there, this is true, but most people will either think "good for you!" or not think about you at all. Others will smile and wave/encourage you. Best of luck
  • Sounds good to me... Unfortunately I'm usually in a hotel without my PC Mon-Weds evenings, but any other night, I'm good for (probably!). PC games only though. I have ordered diabolo3, so happy to find a group on that, otherwise nothing that requires brilliant shooting reflexes (as I don't have them!)
  • The number of problems with login servers etc. made me glad that for once I'm away from home & won't be able to play until Thursday at the earliest (assuming my copy shows up in the post!). Maybe by then the login etc will be sorted. Once I do have everything in place, I'd love to have some mfp friends  note that I…

  • Hehehehe. I like that, thank you
  • Ooooooh, that sounds fantastic  I would have been right there with you, staggering under the weight of books!
  • I've never seen Granny Smiths as baking apples? Bramleys are cooking apples (and very good microwaved with a few raisins in the middle). Anyway, Russets, Coxs. Anything with taste & texture, nothing worse than biting into an apple that crumbles in your mouth or tastes of cardboard. Out of preference I'd buy English apples…
  • I'm loving the number of people with the same book collection as me  David Eddings must write some of the best characters ever. I managed to miss my bus stop one time while reading one of his novels  I think it's rather sad if people feel they have to fake geekery just to be part of the trend. Although…
  • I'm definitely a geek &/or a nerd. I love games, computers, science-fiction/fantasy/books in general. Someone else mentioned astronomy - I was thrilled with the Venus/Jupiter visibility in the last few weeks, it was so much fun watching Jupiter move - I'm not a proper astronomy geek but my Dad taught me to…

  • Hello fellow Geeks! I'm Ann & I'm most definitely a geek. Books (anything, I really honestly don't mind what genre/type/size), sci-fi, fantasy, RPGs (computer & pen 'n' paper), Board Games, crochet, needlepoint, jewellery making, computers.... Currently extremely happy because I have a new home PC. I even work in IT for a…
  • Wooohooo!! You look FANTASTIC!! Excellent work  Really really proud of you
  • Possibly the easiest answer is to not have it in the fridge until you can do moderation in portions, also if you have to walk to the shop to get the chocolate, at least you got some exercise for it  If you're exercising though, you do need more calories, so, yes, you could have the food so long as you exercise to…
  • HIya, I'm Ann & this looks ace :) I don't usually keep track of how far I've walked/treadmilled but the thought of walking into Mordor is really cool :) I did 2 miles today... so I'm barely on my way, but it's all got to start somewhere :)
  • Florida, a week from today for two whole weeks by myself!!! Woooooo, *excited happy dance* Never been to Florida before (I've been to the states before) and I've never driven in the states, so it's going to be a whole bunch of new experiences!
  • Better public transport would require more money than most governments are willing to provide, and fewer people are willing to pay the extra taxes as well. However, it is the only way to get people away from the convenience of cars. Not to mention, that for anyone living out of the main cities/suburban areas needs a car.…
  • Great, thanks  I shall definitely be checking for the different colour packets and fancy bags!
  • Thanks - I've got a shopping list now! Mmmm, almond too, and raspberry!
  • M&Ms come in flavours other than peanut & just plain chocolate?? I'm so looking for these when I'm over in the states on holiday soon, because I'm fairly certain these interesting flavours aren't available in the UK! What other flavours are there & can I get them at a normal supermarket over there?
  • £1.43/litre.... So, given that there's approx 3.8 litres to a US gallon, that's £5.43, and I think £1 is about $1.56... so, total conversion: $8.48! This is for diesel.... I think petrol is around 4p/litre less, so, probably $8.20 for petrol. Hope that's made some of you feel better about your gas prices!
  • I'd rather be my own person & I think I'd get creeped out if someone tried to be exactly the same as me.... There's only room for one me in this world! Not to mention, I have a varied range of hobbies, so yes, some things in common would be great, but I'm not expecting anyone showing a romantic interest in me to turn up…
  • Amusingly.... the ad at the side of this thread was for one of those browser-type MMOs  and the one at the top is for DDO!! Didn't fallen earth go ftp as well? For a decent sort-of rpg that'll while away a few minutes/hours/moments there's desktop dungeons: http://www.desktopdungeons.net/?page_id=11 It's quite a…
  • Someone else said cottage cheese, but normal cheese as well. Things like feta go really nicely on salads, cheddar melted onto chicken/steak/whatever, halloumi is just yummy (in my opinion!). I'm not sure how much impact it would have on you being pre-diabetic though. Nuts are definitely good. I did have a sesame/almond…
  • Just 3? 1. The 300 (seriously, all those ripped abs & mostly fight scenes!) 2. Young Frankenstein 3. Lord of the Rings.
  • What about bamboo shoots & water chestnuts? That ought to be fairly healthy? I'd go for steamed rather than fried rice and chicken based dishes. Probably best to enjoy having your friends round and not worry too much about one night, but not go overboard!
