  • I used Weight Watchers successfully back in 2008 and lost 50lbs. I became a lifetime member so never had to pay to attend again. Then they changed the way points were counted and it was kind of dumb. They gave you more points, but foods increased in points as well. Made no sense to me so I left. Since then, I believe there…
  • I used to be like many of you until recently. I was rushing to my dying mother's bedside and some "idiot" in a truck was trying to get by me. I'm going a good 30 mph over the limit. He finally pulled out and passed me and sped down the road and turned right a few blocks up. By the time I got to where he turned he was…
  • I do best having a support system in place. Starting out with Weight Watchers back in 2008 was awesome for me. They came to my workplace and there was a group of 35 people attending. I learned to track my food through them. Jump forward 8 years (in May) and there is still a group of 4 of the originals who meet each week to…
  • I have celiac disease with severe reactions and it is easier and safer to use the naturally GF foods as others are saying. I don't miss bread or pasta anymore so I don't bother with a GF version. Depending on how serious your husband's damage is, you may find that the gums (xanthan or guar) commonly used in place of gluten…
  • Gotta go with the detox/cleanse advice. Most recently from my stepmother who is almost 100 lbs overweight and has two knee replacements because of it. Kinda funny because I hit my goal in 2009 after losing around 70lbs and 6 1/2 years later I'm still within 5lbs.
  • I can fluctuate about 5 pounds - - nothing to worry about. It's not a perfect science. :)
  • Every single day - - and I track using The Hacker's Diet (someone posted a link to this in the forums way back when I started). I like their graphs better than MFP's. It took a while to get comfortable seeing the fluctuations though. :) I officially report my weight loss/gain on Wednesdays during the weight loss support…
  • 5' 4 1/2" and almost 56 years old. I started out around 200lbs. First goal was 150lbs. Hit that and decided to stop trying to lose until I got comfortable with it. About two years later I was ready to lose the rest. I went down to 128lbs but that triggered more than a few of my co-workers coming to me privately to ask if I…
  • Barring any medical issues (have you had a checkup lately?) I wonder if you are underestimating your intake? When I first started on MFP, everyone strongly suggested purchasing a digital food scale. I did and wow - - what an eye opener! What I thought was a serving was sometimes almost two! I automatically weigh every…
  • You can do this! We all had to hit our personal bottom - - where we make that conscious decision to take charge of ourselves again. Best of luck...keep posting - - so many of us have been in a similar situation and I've found it helpful to discover that a lot of people go through the weight loss experience pretty much the…

  • NEVER pay attention to medical people who say "It's going to be your normal....learn to live with it." Keep fighting until you find your diagnosis.
  • 5'4" here. Shortest in my family outside of my 5'2" mom. :) They tell me I'm short in stature but tall in attitude! LOL My daughter is 5'7" and my son is 6' 2". Whenever I take him grocery shopping there are at least a half dozen other my-size women who ask him to help out with things on the top shelves. ;)
  • When I left high school 40 years ago I weighed around 125lbs. I'm now around 129-131lbs but my highest weight was 200lbs.
  • I have no words for this. Sorry this happened to you.....smh.
  • What a display of dedication from everyone! OP, you'll soon be posting the same types of comments for a new member who feels like you do right now. We all had to start from the beginning......that's sorta how it works. ;) I'm down 72 pounds. I still remember Day 1 and how overwhelmed I was with what seemed like such a long…
  • Thanks....and I actually was diagnosed with reactive depression and PTS, believe it or not. Apparently it's not all that uncommon in parents who lose, or almost lose their kids. My son had liver cancer, of all things. A hard five years of partying and drinking will do that to a person I guess ;) He's amazing - a gifted…
  • Yep, I'm the "magical points" poster. What I meant was that points didn't really easily correlate to food for me. If I stayed within my 19 per day, I lost weight. Magic.
  • Hi there, I'm a WW to MFP convert. :) I lost 50lbs with WW and a further 22 here since April. Although I will always credit WW with teaching me how to eat more healthily, I find MFP has taught me how to eat more mindfully. I've always been aware of fat, protein, carbs etc, but MFP lays it right out in front of my eyes and…
  • I have an irrational fear that can wake me from a sound sleep and put me into tears in seconds. My son has been cancer free for 17 years (he's 24). No sign of cancer since remission but that doesn't seem to matter. My mommy-brain won't let it go :(
  • Hah! Love this! I had two long time co-workers approach me about a "sensitive topic". They were truly worried that I might be ill and just not saying anything. It took a while for me to come up with a good response but now I just reassure people by saying "it's okay, it's on purpose!" I hope I remember to use your line…
  • Very first thing I noticed was that suddenly my knee didn't hurt any more. There are still things that pop up when I least expect it....like being able to wear boots. 72 pounds ago I wasn't able to find any that would zip up around my calves - I now own three pairs! :D
  • A co-worker gave me his secret to cooking sprouts: cut an 'x' into the stem end of each one and cook in chicken broth until tender. I gave it a try and now instead of eating them a couple of times a year, I probably eat them once every couple of weeks. They're so good this way!
  • Weigh every single day, graph it and watch the trend. Even if I've gone up on the scale, the long term trend shows me that I'm fine.....still maintaining perfectly. :) Someone posted this link on MFP a while ago and I've been using it ever since: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/online/hdo.html
  • Haha! I keep coming back to look at the kitchen sink kitty! Hilarious :D
  • I had to borrow a co-worker's sweater today. She asked if I was feeling ill. Nope...just cold! I'm reading this as I sit here with a hoodie zipped up to my neck and the hood on and tied (mom always told me you lose a lot of heat through your head). If I could type with mittens on I'd be happy. It's 68F in here. This would…
  • I discovered this week that a decent sized apple-pear packs a walloping 10 grams of fiber. I had 273 grams worth (check the database for specifics). Getting enough fiber is a huge deal for me as I have a dietary challenge and cannot eat anything with gluten. It's always pretty exciting to find an easy way to get it through…
  • Any one of the Gulf Islands in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Vancouver (I have lived here since 1972 and I absolutely love this area) Huatulco, Mexico Paris London Cartegena, Colombia San Francisco Seattle There are so many amazing places to choose from - have fun!!
  • Definitely need my coffee in the morning. Something is dreadfully wrong if I miss it. :'( On weekdays I usually only have one cup about 5am but on the weekends I may have two or three cups. I use stevia and evaporated milk. Coffee is not the enemy. <3
