  • Thanks, but truth be told I fell apart. I know others who have had a lot worse happen and seem to hold up better than I did. But, God is good and He picked me back up. I'll lose the weight again.
  • I was doing great, losing weight, working with a trainer, and definitely getting in better shape. Then, my daughter had medical issues that put her in the hospital for a week. I was still okay, but slowed down a little. Two months later, my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Then, my son-in-law was killed in a car crash.…

  • Contrats on the 15 lbs lost. My wife had this problem after chemo and radiation. The doctors told us that it would take one to two years before she gets to whatever her new normal is. I don't know what will help with motivation. She's tired a lot, but forces herself to get on the treadmill to get some exercise. Her tastes…
  • There's a sole treadmill on the other side of the room with a TV mounted in front of it. In between is just open area for stretching, etc.
  • Short term: Squat and deadlift over bodyweight. Quit smoking. Long term: Squat and deadlift 2x bodyweight. Bench 1.5x bodyweight. Be able to walk up mountains while hunting carrying about 40 lbs of gear without getting winded. Really long term: Be like my neighbors. At almost 90 years old they are still living by…
  • Pepsi out of a glass bottle made with real sugar.
  • Russian twists. It's one of my trainer's favorite exercises, but I can't stand them. Bear crawls is a close second.
  • The body solid rack that I got off Craigslist used for $100 has a lat attachment as an option. http://www.bodysolid.com/Home/PPR200X/Powerline_Power_Rack I talked to my trainer about it, and he didn't recommend it. He said that he had one, and he said it was always in the way of the bench.
  • I started three weeks ago on the advice of my trainer. I've already noticed that I'm more flexible which has helped correct my form for squats. I really don't like Yoga, but I do like the results.

  • Staunton area
  • I gained 2 lbs since yesterday. I know I didn't eat an extra 7000 calories yesterday, but I did lift heavy so my body is retaining water. I'm just going to stay off the scale for a few days and I'll be fine.
  • Congrats! I still have 15 lbs to go until I'm overweight and not obese. I can't wait to get there!
  • I'm 45 and still going to college. I don't think you're ever too old.
  • I started with a trainer three weeks ago. He's given me a bunch of core and activation exercises and we're working on proper form for lifting. What he's given me that I would have never known to work toward is balance and core strength. Now that we're working on lifting, he's only using a bandbell until I get to where my…
  • I lost 92 lbs in 2008 through diet alone. I was definitely skinny-fat. My biggest regret is not lifting back then. Here's all my BS excuses for gaining it back: -I was diagnosed hypothyroid -I decided to go back to school -The economy crashed and my work laid off a lot of people. I was working extra hours because of the…
  • Good for you going 7 weeks straight! I hate all the mirrors in my trainer's gym, but they do help me check my form. It does get discouraging looking at myself in the mirrors, but then I remember that I'm doing something about it. Someone had posted on one of the topics something that I took to heart: Six months from now…
  • A little over two months ago I was sitting at my desk talking to a colleague. My chest was hurting and my coworker was afraid I was having a heart attack. Fortunately, I wasn't but that scared the heck out of me.
  • Do you have a Play it Again Sports near you? I was able to get a bench, bar, and used plates pretty reasonably there. I also got lucky and found a used power rack on Craigslist for $100.
  • This. I use carrots if I'm in a hurry but generally I just cook the sauce for about 12 hours.
  • Upstate NY, but now I live in central Virginia
  • I've been setting up equipment in my basement. So far I've got the following: Power Rack - $100 off Craigslist Flat/Incline/Decline Bench - $90 from Play it again Sports 300 lb Olympic weight set - $209 from ****'s Sporting Goods. Plate Tree - $10 on clearance at Sears Floor mats - Don't remember, they've been there Sole…
