  • And my recovery was swift, too, relatively speaking. Two nights in ICU after Monday pm surgery, home on Sunday. It did take me a while to get over no longer being able to do the wieghtraining I had been doing, and I am still not reconciled to the slower metabolism on all the meds. Hence a post-surgery weight gain. Am…
  • Not Marfans, but asked neurologist if he thought I had a connective tissue disorder, and he said yes. Have alerted my siblings and kids. No one has said anything about genetic testing at this point.
  • Yeah, had similar symptoms while doing interval training on a treadmill. Five days later while working out, after doing pullups and lunges with shoulder presses, I had a sharp pain run across my chest--lo and behold, aortic dissection. It happens and is usually only diagnosed by CT scans. Often the person lives with an…
  • Just started this book and was pleased at how well it jibed with what my trainer is saying about lifting--whole body exercises rather than isolation, the need for protein to build muscle, working with what the body is meant to do, and using more weight for fewer reps rather than low weights for many. Alas, got it on Kindle.
  • Inspiring reading everyone's postings. I am female, 5'8", 143, and was happy to be up to 95 lbs in my third set today. Slow but steady...
  • I travel and use the heatlh rooms in hotels, but on a week when I am in the office I only manage twice during lunch, warming up myself working 45 minutes each time with a trainer. Can't really spare more time. And I walk at least 2 miles 6-7 days a week.
  • Thank you for posting--your beautiful photos are a nudge for me to keep going after regaining five pounds since November and going off MFP.
  • Catching my golden retriever grabbing one of my potassium pills off the bathroom countertop, prying open her mouth and shaking her head until it fell out, and then picking it up and taking it myself! Why did I do that? Waste not want not only goes so far....I guessv when you have a dog it is sorta like a husband in sharing…
  • New clothes for the new me--down from a 10-12 to a 6 since last Christmas. :smooched:
  • So encouraging to read everyone's posts! I am working on maintenance this month, as I met my goal in November. A good problem is that all the clothes I bought last fall are too big, so I am weeding things out. Would like to try the over-the-knee boots like Amanda! Very cold here---below freezing, but husband, dog, and I…
  • Another one here who eats a frozen meal for lunch! Really like the Healthy Choice selections, but I will do Lean Cuisine and Michelina as well. Evreything in moderation...even sweets, alcohol, and salt!
  • I have dropped two pants sizes and have been taking mine in to be altered at a cost of about $18 a pair if the cut is still good on me. Aterations on my jackets are either $25 or $35 depending on how much work needs to be done. I have passed most of my skirts on to a resale chain called Clothes Mentor and come away with…
  • I try to log everything to be more accountable to myself, and I eat all my exercise calories, as my weight loss has remained consistent in my doing so...I will go about two weeks at the same weight and then drop about a pound and a half to two pounds. And psychologically, I don't want to feel deprived or as though I am on…
  • Best of luck in your efforts, Dzzy. I think you will find that logging your food and being accountable to yourself will make an increasing difference in your motivation and progress. I am 57 and have been on the MFP program for about six months, and it has worked for me. When I have been on holiday, though, I haven't…
  • How are you still moving at all? It would seem you are not getting sufficient calories to operate your body at this level of intensity.
  • Our church sells funnel cakes over the four-day Labor Day weekend in a community festival that attracts several hundre thousand people, many of whom are on the larger side. That is enough to keep me from eating any funnel cakes!
  • Am heading to the UK to the Univ of Durham for a study holiday and worried a bit about food in college and in getting logged in through my Blackberry. I know we will be doing lots of walking, but I need to stay within my calories by keeping track. Any advice on dressing for the weather in the North?
  • They do get smaller, but they don't go away, alas, but everyone seems to have them. Was a bit shocked to be at camp this past week with teen girls and noticed that they had more tummy than I did despite my being forty years older. Felt pretty good, actually!!!!
  • Prayers for you, Chicletgirl, and for your mom. Back on the board, hoping to lose a couple of more pounds, but we are having a holiday in Sweden next week, so it will be hard to keep logging on without my laptop. Downloaded a different browser for the Blackberry, but logging in takes forever.
  • If it were me I would have a nice glass of wine and some almonds and finish up with some non-fat yoghurt with honey.
  • MFP has asked me every ten pounds about recalculating. I have lowered my goal twice, and each time MFP lowered my allowable calories for a pound a week loss. End result is that I can't eat a whole lot because I weigh less, and I burn fewer calories when I exercise. Not sure if I will go on maintenance or lower my goal…
  • If I am making a comment to someone else, I will usually say something like "You look amazing!" but I don't know that that gets around the issue of making sound like they looked not so good before. The people around me most frequently have said nothing about my weight loss, but when I went in to give blood this weekend,…
  • Katie, you can do this successfully by eating not just the healthy stuff, but the things you love in moderation! I have pizza about once a week and wine several evenings but know I have to fit these things into my daily calories and balance it out. Good luck--we are all learning what works for us for the long term so we…
  • Very helpful--especially the advice on changing food patterns and eating a bit more.
  • Hang in there--you can do it! The almonds are a good suggestion--I'd even think about bringing some. Just concentrate on being charming and flirting and having a good time, and you won't even think about the food!
  • Congrats on your weight loss and the joy you felt at buying something beautiful in a smaller size! And your husband sounds like a keeper...:
  • You have so much courage in looking at yourself honestly! I came to the same conclusion that I didn't want to get so many calories each day in a drink, so I now rarely drink fruit juices and limit wine to 4-5 oz a day( and not every day.) MFP makes it easier to be accountable, and that is the first step to success. You can…
  • Definitely eat your calories. What we are all trying to do is retrain ourselves to eat normal portions that will maintain health. I personally never have ended the day with a deficit as high as yours, but last night I was about 300 under, so I ate a meal bar. The good thing is that sooner or later we will meet our goals…
  • It IS frustrating when you think you are following the plan, and nothing seems to be happening. The weight will go--eventually--if you are eating enough and drinking enough water. Most of us have these month-long plateaus. For me the loss gets slower as I am at my last few pounds till goal. Hang in there--you have achieved…
  • Miqisha, I'm with you. I have a sweet tooth, and sometimes I just want some salt. I don't deny myself--I just measure out a proper serving. Have realized that I used to eat 3 x the proper portions on snack food--no wonder the weight crept on. Thank heavens the weight has now crept off. MFP keeps me accountable for calories.
