  • Congrats on a great job! Now that I'm back to work, it's been tempting. But I haven't given in. Thanks for reminding me why - great job on the weight loss!
  • Welcome! I'm just coming "back on board" after Christmas / being snowed in / getting a head cold (really no excuse not to log and/or eat right!) but I'm so happy to be back at it. There are SO many great people and inspirational stories here. You can do it!
  • How are your sugar (and some people don't count the sugar in whole foods like fresh fruit), fiber, and salt intakes? The reason I ask is that if you are eating well, I wouldn't be too concerned about being under in fat (unless it's extreme...you do need some good fat) and carbs. You may want to adjust the goal…

  • Hi! Short answer = yes, eat your exercise calories. Long answer = there are a ton of posts on this topic - just go to the message board and search "eat exercise calories." Have a great day!
  • Congratulations!!! That's wonderful news. Keep up the good steps towards a healthier life. I just had lunch with a couple of ladies this past week who are both on the same path as us. One was very heavy, like me, and has lost a total of 70 lbs (and she says has erased 10 miserable years, because she broke into bins of…
  • Bumping. Going on my first "run" with my Sister (NoPoGal) tomorrow morning - it's our "Turkey Trot"! I just realized my profile pic is from last Turkey Day. Will hopefully get a good updated pic tomorrow.
  • Yep - that's all I meant.

  • I just got scared about this today, when I realized I have about 1 opportunity to swim next week, when I've been swimming 3-4 times a week. I know I should be able to squeeze in other work outs, but with all the extra temptation, I'm a little worried that I will get lazy too. Good luck to us all in staying on track!
  • You're still losing - hooray for you! Just checking - did you adjust your goals for your weight loss? If you haven't, it won't be a big difference, so don't worry! Continued success to you!!!

  • I struggle with the sodium thing too (not the sugar, I guess I'm lucky that I don't have sweet tooth. But the salt - OMG!). I'm trying to eat fewer processed foods, but I love my canned turkey chili for an easy lunch. And my Morning Star "sausage" patties. Anyway, I just try to drink extra water and I've been steadily…
  • MFP goals are good, based on what I've read/learned over the last however long I've been paying attention (including a nutrition class in junior college). I had success in the past with 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat a.k.a. The Zone or I think it might also be the same as "Balance" (supposed to be about this balance at…

  • If you really can't get off the scale (TRY!), then try to add the other measures mentioned by mellymlk - especially the way you feel. Don't you feel great after a workout? A healthy, balanced meal? You are making so many positive changes! Just checking - you are also watching your sodium and not eating, e.g., one huge meal…
  • Ditto on the recovery periods.... ...and, as you become more CV fit, the recovery periods (heart rate) become shorter. And your resting heart rate usually goes down a little too. It's all good!!!
  • Or, try this calculator? http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calories_burned.asp?exercise=133 I've never used this one before, but also couldn't find Tae Bo on the others I have.

  • Bumping for Men's Health link. http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/index.php
  • This is a GREAT program! Be (brutally) honest with yourself, and it will work if you really want to make a change to a healthier lifestyle. And, there are FABULOUS people here for support - a big help!!! We're only human, after all.
  • Congrats! It's so nice to hear, isn't it! WONDERFUL!
  • That's awesome! I'm not a runner (yet? I definately wouldn't do that to my knees right now!) but I'm inspired by you and people like you (including my Sister). Congratulations!

  • I love Goodwill stores. When I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed that I was about to reach for the same top I wore just a couple of days ago (fresh from last night's laundry, though). I decided to pick up a "couple" of things at Goodwill today. Well, I got - another purple T so I don't have the exact same…
  • That's so cool! A couple of weeks ago, my husband spontaneously (read: I didn't point out a smaller size jeans, t-shirt, whatever) commented that my butt was smaller (after he said it was cute :blushing: ). Of course, being him....he later that week made some snide remark about the dumpiness of the same knit pants.
  • What else positive can you look to for motivation? Did you measure? Have you felt different in your clothes? Saved money by not eating out (as much)? Had more energy? There are SO many benefits to shifting to a healthier lifestyle. You can do it! Keep looking here for support - there are so many of us struggling day to day…
  • I pretty much always thought I was overweight, but history proves this untrue. My grandmother handed down some nasty body-image problems to my Mom, and then on to me and my siblings. I have an "athletic" build (broad shoulders for one). I never wore the same sizes as my peers, but I wasn't fat. Until I was. Then, it was a…
  • I was looking for a different article that I had seen before, but came across the below - http://health.discovery.com/centers/nutritionfitness/fitness/articles/experts/shealey/prepost.html The article I saw before was more specific about what to eat after different levels of exercise (intensity/duration), but this article…
  • "Walk the line between self-denial and self-indulgence. It's the middle ground between the two that will offer you the best foundation for building your new life. Maintain your discipline by allowing yourself little pleasures every now and again." ...and don't feel bad when people don't know that it is just a little…
  • Congratulations!
  • Just checking - you did step on the scale and/or (more importantly) talk to your doctor before starting on 1200 calories + exercise calories, yes? Depending on how much weight you need to lose - if any - to be healthier, 1200 calories may be too low a starting point. I'm pretty darn overweight right now, so my baseline…
  • So, today was a weigh-in day, and I've lost 0.6 lbs over the last two weeks. I started to get a little disappointed, and then I thought about it more. Not excuses, just things I know - I WAY overate (and overdrank) yesterday. I didn't have enough water yesterday. I did not have the best two weeks of following a healthier…
  • I don't know, sounds about right. Last time I did yard work, I looked it up a couple of different places too, and I averaged it against "gardening". I think I used MFP and www.healthstatus.com. I just found another site (selling proprietary software, and I would never leave MFP!) with the following for "gardening" It says…
  • Hi! Welcome! This is a great site! I've only been here a few weeks now, but I really love it. Can you tell us a little bit more about your living situation? At home, I only have to "deal" with my husband, who is usually supportive. Last night he ticked me off by playing at force feeding me a fried dumpling (gyoza) when we…
