  • People who don't check the log before sending an e-mail to a bunch of people asking about the status of a phone call. REALLY? Why not look it up? It would have taken the same amount of time as sending an email! Sigh. Drivers who don't use turn signals and either slow down, cut me off, or otherwise impede my progress when a…
  • I have found the best way to overcome soda cravings is to drink fizzy flavored water. I'm now addicted to Crystal Geyser's sparkling mineral water (it's available in lemon, lime, orange, and very berry). The sweetened flavor waters, to me, are too cloyingly sweet whether sweetened with aspartame, sucralose, or stevia. I…
  • Cuties for sure! (I'm addicted - I eat 5-7 per day.) Hummus with baby carrots, broccoli, etc. Clif "Z" bars (energy bars for kids - smaller with fewer calories than a Clif bar but available in fun flavors like chocolate brownie and honey graham) Bananas Apples (pre-cored and sliced) Trail mix (pre-portioned) Good ways to…
  • I tried Equal, Splenda, and Stevia in the Raw. I found all of them to be very chemical tasting, and stevia was very bitter. I had gone back to white sugar and recently discovered that brown sugar is FANTASTIC in coffee. So that's my sweetener of choice. A teaspoon of brown goes a lot farther than white, IMHO.
  • I'll stick to eating clementines.... Cutie lovers unite! (Oh and we have a tree in our backyard and we're in California. So it'll grow in many places! Grow your own fruit!)
  • Hummus! I love to dip baby carrots, broccoli, etc. in it. Super tasty and satisfying!
  • PB is a staple in my diet! It's loaded with healthy fats (which you need!) and protein. Some things are worth the extra calories, as long as you are good about the portion size. There's also a low-cal version called PB2 - it's powdered peanut butter that can be reconstituted with water, jam, etc. It doesn't taste as good…
  • It's essentially a meal replacement shake - the idea is 2 shakes and a "colorful" meal (lots of veggies, lean meat, etc). They also have vitamin supplements, protein bars, and the like. Some of my teammates are using it, but they have experienced rapid weight loss in a short time and have made the observation that they are…
  • ABSOLUTELY worth it. There are good deals out there if you're willing to hunt around!
  • <putting on my running coach hat> If you're going to do a 5K race, I recommend the Couch to 5K program. It gives you 3 workouts a week and you gradually build your mileage with your goal race at the end as a motivator. There are a few good apps out there too if you're into that sort of thing. :) Good luck!
  • THIS! Heart rate monitors are the best way to measure calorie burn. The database is usually off for just about everything I put in, so I manually enter the data from my HRM. It's a worthwhile investment - this is a lifestyle change, after all!
  • My job is sedentary (office work) but I work out 6 days a week - I measure calorie burn with a heart rate monitor and I average 5,000-6,000 calories a week. I don't do all those little tricks with the stairs, etc. because I feel like I burn more than enough calories on a weekly basis. :)
  • I use fat-free Coffee-Mate (I'm weird, I like the taste) and brown sugar instead of white. It's fantastic!
  • That makes perfect sense. Thank you!
  • All of the above - and HAVE FUN! :) I still remember my first 5K fondly!!! I hope it inspires you to keep running - it certainly did for me, I haven't stopped since my first almost 6 years ago! I've now run about 90 races since then, varying distances from 5K to the marathon :)
  • Point taken, the question was a little vague. :) I do squat already as part of my circuit training, but no deadlifting or benching as most of my circuit training is done at home without benefit of equipment beyond basic hand weights. Obviously you don't know much about me, so I'll just ask this - how does one know where to…
  • What are your thoughts on powerlifting? I have a couple of friends who love it, and it's something I've given some thought to off and on. Primarily I'm a long-distance runner who tries to get in strength training (full-body circuit style) 2-3 days a week. However, I am not afraid of more weight and want to try a new…
  • I'm working on a higher protein "tweaked" version of the plan. The daily intake is just a couple hundred more calories than what I burn at practice! NOT ENOUGH!!! I read the posts on FB and I don't understand how people can practice hard for 2-3 hours, hard, and not eat after! Mind blown.
  • Chuck Norris is allowed to talk about Fight Club.
  • Chuck Norris is an action verb.
  • A Klondike bar would do anything for Chuck Norris.
  • The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.
  • There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
  • Chuck Norris wears the food chain around his neck.
  • I've started using my phone app more and scanning the foods that have bar codes - makes it much easier (and less ambiguous) than searching every time! However, trying to fix stuff that's already posted is an exercise in futility. I hope they get that fixed someday!
  • This. People have the CHOICE to modify her recipes to make them healthier. Nobody is forcing anyone to eat them. I made one of her "gooey butter cakes" once - while it was good, I only ate a little bit of it, gave away a lot, and wouldn't make it again without some serious modifications. Live and let live. If she chooses…
  • For those of you doing the Roller Derby Workout DVD, how do you track that? I put circuit training, general, then cut the number of calories in half. Any other ideas?
  • I run into that problem too! Yesterday was a rest day and I was good about sticking to my calorie limit, but I still felt kind of hungry (but not starved). Tonight I have practice which is a huge burn so I didn't feel bad about eating a little more than normal for lunch. :) It'll even out in the wash!
  • Absolutely. Like someone else said, it's not a disease. :) You might feel more tired/sluggish on the first and/or second day, and you probably won't see much weight loss, but exercise will help with cramps (if that's an issue). Just be kind to yourself!
  • Here's the website! http://www.rollerderbyworkout.com/getacopy.html It's just a couple of derby girls running the show, so any support is appreciated! :)
