Home heating
If showering can be a hot topic, this should work for discussion. How warm do you keep your home in winter? Growing up ours was always toasty; I remember being shocked going to babysit at a house where it was kept much cooler. Now, as an older woman with hot flashes, I love being able to keep the house as cool as I want. I…

Stress
Can stress have a negative impact on your workouts? I've been under extreme stress for the last two weeks and have noticed my endurance and power have really dropped.

Losing pain with the weight
I'm a very slow loser, the journey is taking years. One of my issues is joint pain; hips, knees and ankles making walking for exercise hard. I would go for a walk and be incapacitated for a week. Then I crossed a threshold of weight loss and that went away. I could walk an hour or more every day without pain. Well, until…

Non-scale minor frustrations
I'm a bit of an optimist and have plenty of storage space, so I've kept all the clothes I outgrew over the years. I also bought my favorite t-shirts in the next sizes down. It was such a boost pulling out all new shirts the last time my size dropped. Current frustration: I really thought I was ready to fit into the next…

Help with establishing a habit
I'm trying to make daily exercise a habit (again). I have arthritis and migraines that can derail my plans and when it happens, the effort to begin again seems insurmountable. Logically, I know I'll feel better when I exercise. It's just not enough to get me moving without massive effort. I'm on day 3 now.

Losing very slowly and that's okay
I've done fast weight loss before and ended up yo-yoing multiple times. Now, I'm going at my own pace, which averages out at half a pound per week. Today I hit -40 pounds and I'm not at all bothered that it took 80 weeks to get here. The time would have passed anyway and I've proven to myself that I can sustain this…

Dogs and bikes
On my first outside ride since my knee injury, blissfully thinking my worst problem would be sore sit bones...bit by a dog. Definitely got my heart rate up. Ha!

Knee injury and afterwards
Two months ago I fell and hurt my knee. Most of the pain was in the LCL and I couldn't bend it much past 90 degrees and even that hurt. Goodbye cardio. On Monday, while putting my socks on, I felt something snap in my knee. Agonizing pain and much swearing followed by despair that the healing process was pushed back to the…

Seasonal Cravings
I have cravings for fresh fruit and veg in season. Whether it's citrus in January and February, melons and beets in September, apples in October, lettuce in April and May, it repeats every year. I'm curious if this is a learned response due to the better taste of in-season produce or some other reason. I could reason away…

Stress
In the past, stress has always triggered eating for me. Today I'm experiencing the opposite with a complete lack of appetite (just found out I may be losing my job). How does stress affect you: appetite stimulant or suppressant?

Cycling advice, please
I'm new to cycling outside and enjoy it much more than the stationary bike. My problem is my rear gets sore long before I tire out. Today I had to stop a mile from home and stand for a bit until the pain eased. I'm wearing padded shorts and riding a Townie. Would a replacement seat help?

Adjusting mentally to lower calories
After updating my goals with a lower weight, my calories dropped to 1500 (set to lose 1.5 lbs/week with 67 to go). For some reason the difference between 1570 and 1500 feels vast and I'm whining (silently, nobody needs to hear this). Has anyone else felt something similar?

Updating photo ID?
At what point do you get a new driver's license because the picture doesn't look like you anymore? I know I won't wait 3 years until my current one expires, but how close to goal did you wait? Lost 100 lbs, 75 to go.

Back to cycling
I've been diagnosed with sprained ligaments in my foot. Minimal walking for two weeks and no running for at least three. If there isn't improvement in the next two weeks I have to go back for more x-rays. The combination of pain and cold, gloomy weather makes this a very disappointing week.

When did you adjust your goals?
I've lost 100 lbs with my MFP goal set at 2 lbs/week and still have 75 lbs to go. At what point (how much did you have left to lose) did you dial it back to 1.5 lbs or 1 lb?

Aaargh
I may have found the most frustrating weight loss amount: -99.8 lbs. On the bright side, only 75.2 to go!

Weight Loss Challenges
I am genuinely curious about the purpose behind a weight loss challenge. My viewpoint might be skewed because I'm not at all competitive, but participating in a challenge wouldn't make me decide to drop to a lower calorie limit or increase my workouts. I'm already at a sustainable level so why add more reasons to focus on…

All in my head?
We've had a lovely stretch of warm weather which has me outside walking, cycling and doing stuff. The side effect is that I'm a lot hungrier than if I had been exercising inside. Anyone else experience this or am I just mental?

Will I come to love strength training?
People keep telling me that I'm going to love strength training and become addicted. It hasn't happened yet; still a chore. I found a spreadsheet that I can fill out to track progress, which helps keep my nerd side engaged. But it would be wonderful if it became something I looked forward to, like cycling. My question is:…

Mental problem
I've lost 20 lbs. I should be happy and celebrating, but I feel bigger than ever and it's dragging me down. Other than my current solution of just pushing through this, any suggestions?

Random Thoughts on Weight Loss
Yesterday I found two pairs of shorts in my clothes stash that are the next size down. Brand new, bought shorts instead of the cut-off sweat pants I wear. Sadly, by my estimation, these will fit perfectly in the middle of winter. This thread is for funny, odd or 'whatever' stuff that doesn't belong anyplace else…

Strength training
Looking for thoughts on when to add in strength training. I've got the cardio/recumbent bike as a habit now, but nothing else. Does it even matter at this stage when I have another couple years of weight loss ahead of me?

Setting personal goals
It's easy for me to say I want to lose 140 lbs, but if I try to set my sights that far over the horizon I end up stumbling and falling. So I'm looking around for small goals to get excited for. I've always held onto all my clothes as I gained weight (because, of course, I never planned on staying at a bigger size) and one…

Breakfast
A few days ago I ate a larger than normal breakfast; specifically, a blt. What surprised me was I didn't have any appetite for lunch. As an experiment I repeated it this morning with the same result. I end up eating cottage cheese and fruit for a late lunch. I'm not sure why I didn't expect this, but it strikes me that…

How long before medication reduction?
For those who've been at this successfully and improved their health, how long did it take before you were able to reduce your medications? Being able to cut my metformin dosage or stop taking blood pressure pills would feel like a major win to me.
