Thoughts on getting started; motivation on a background of mental illness.
Anger and the great ‘if you don’t. Like it change’ mentality fight it out in a muddied plot somewhere in the back field of my psyche. I try to cut the weeds and let the flowers grow but some things don’t blood[m] into what you’d think. Little mouths saying no and daddy agrees, not out of thoughtful attention but from the…

Solo break
So a good friend cancelled (got a better offer; yes, a man) on a climbing adventure. After being kitten kitten annoyed for a day, I decided screw it. Leaving my family for a few nights in the rainforest alone. Going to walk the pristine coastline alone. Climb a mountain alone. I’m a little excited. Anyone else take…

Call the cops or nah?
Neighbors 2 houses down and across the street have been having shouting matches on and off all day. About 20 mins ago it escalated. It ‘sounded’ (from my place 2 houses down and across the street) that it was getting violent. Or maybe they were just slamming doors or breaking plates. Although I’m sure I heard the guy say…

Soft drinks and type 2 diabetes
I read today in the news paper that a new review had linked as little as 2 soft drinks per day to the development of Type 2 diabetes, regardless of weight. Here is the full text article as published by The Journal of the Endocrine Society if anyone is interested. Click the link for abstract then click on the PDF option if…

Cheap (ish) weights Kmart, Australia
Just picked up some standard weight plates for pretty decent prices (in the Australian market) from Kmart of all places. Got a few smaller ones for incremental increases but best of all was some 40cm diameter 20kg plates for $39 each. For comparison these go for about $55 on eBay and more in sporting stores here. They only…

Flab vs abs (progress pic) ...
Not to label this a 'success', cause I'm not done yet but left was at 64kg (still just within healthy range BMI of 24.4 would you believe?). The right is at 54kg (also healthy range BMI of 20.6). Anyway ... baby abs. I guess you can call that a success of sorts!

If CO is all estimates is precision in measuring CO overkill?
If CO predictions are only an estimate (based on age, bodyweight and subjective assessments of activity levels and burns), is absolute precision in measuring CI (like logging to the gram) overkill? Curious to hear arguments for and against.

Only 5kg ... (11lb) ...
Wanted to share a little visual. In the left image taken Nov 5th 2016. I was 60kg (132lb), and with a height of 162cm (5'2'') my BMI was well into the healthy range for BMI @22. On the right I am 55.6kg (122lb), also smack bang in the middle of 'healthy' BMI @21. 5kg (11lb) doesn't seem like much, but on a small frame like…

Old weight but kinda skinny; scared of ^ kg
So I'm back to my old usual weight range, but I'm a little scrawny ... I want my old muscles back. I *know* what works for my body to harden up exercise and diet wise but it's like I'm almost scared of gaining weight again. Any one else feel like this? How did you get over it and motivate yourself to lift the heavy things…

Mountain biker (total beginner) - any tips?
My kids are starting to get involved in mountain biking. We have fantastic track resources in the area where I live. My old bike is a pretty but stupid cruiser and my partner surprised me by buying me a proper mountain bike so I can ride some of the trails with he and the boys. I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie and my…

Someone on the Internet doesn't like me!
So lovely when a stranger chooses to send an unsolicited bullying private message. Locked account, no added friends. I call 2nd account solely for the purpose of being a cow. I could be wrong. Maybe it's just someone too cowardly to say what they want on a public forum.

How do you run downhill?
Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a runner ... However, over the last year I have increased my cardio from not being able to jog to the end of the street and back to comfortably running about 3km, 2 - 3 times per week. I run mostly on trails through a local nature reserve which consisted of STEEP stairs with…

Friends? I think I'd like some this time.
I've been trying to manage my weight alone for too long. Would love to develop a weight loss/healthy living support network. I'm 35. Working mother of two. I'm short (5'4'') and currently 63kg. I'm aiming for 56kg which was the upper limit of my pre medication weight (I take lithium for bipolar disorder which contributes…

Psych meds and making this work.
I'm at breaking point with my weight. Over the last 3yrs psych meds have messed with my metabolism and motivation. I would love to hear from anyone who has managed to get back to their 'pre medication' weight while complying with pharmaceutical mental health treatment. In particular, I would love to chat with anyone who…
