Are ' naturally occurring trans fats ' safe?
Hi all - Just want to know if 'Naturally Occurring' trans fats are safe. I do occasionally go to McDonald's and have a chicken wrap and fries. They state a 94% reduction in trans fats in their foods since 1994 to 2007.…

Had a one off day consuming 60g of saturated fat - is this too much?
Today I ate a lot of saturated fat around 60g. This consisted of cheese, butter, and ground lamb meat. Normally I consume under 10g a day - not due to health, just the type of food I like to eat mainly Asian cuisine, Chinese, Japanese. Although saturated fat is demonized allot.... is 60g a bit too much? I also eat 2500 a…

Eating lots of saturated fats (20 years old) after loosing weight.
I was classed as overweight and I did little exercise when I was around 17 / 18. I did not look overweight but I could tell that my body size was mainly from fat and not actually muscle. Now my weight is good and need to start working out more - plus gaining muscle on my arms. I used to eat allot of salmon and fats with…

Are soreen bars / malt loafs that healthy?
I used to eat malt loaf bars but stopped as they included a fair but of syrup and sugar in them. Decided that many better options were available such as fruit and nut bars with no added sugars. What do you think on malt loaf?

Are McDonalds still as bad as they used to be?
Hi all, Recently McDonald's menu has improved in my own opinion. Yes the quality of the meat used and the processes to manufacture the meat into nuggets or other items may not be the best but in terms of ingredients used I personally don't think they are too dissimilar from Nuggets or chicken burgers you would buy from a…

Is it beneficial to eat all your daily food within a time slot?
Hi all, Just interested as the question came to my mind. Is their any benefit of eating all your food / meals and snacks within an 8 / 10 hour time frame. I have heard this mentioned sometimes but I think mainly to do with weight loss. If i fancy a large bowl of oatmeal a couple hours before I got to bed is that bad? or…

Are steviol glycosides (sweetener) considered safe in your opinion?
Sometimes I eat baked beans which use sweetener (steviol glycosides) instead of sugar. I personally would not buy them but other family members prefer them which is fine. Just wondering if anyone has good reason to avoid steviol glycosides or are they harmless. I would rather consume these sort of sweetener rather than…

Feel bad eating carbs for an evening snack compared to nuts
I don't snack much at all - and consume a low amount of sugar in any form but eat a fair amount of veg, nuts, grains and pulses + protein such as chicken, tuna, salmon and occasional lean red meat. You may have seen my post before about eating 100g of oatmeal in the morning but sometimes I like another bowl in the evening…

Is 100g (uncooked) oatmeal too much in one sitting?
Hi I am early twenties and have never really snacked a great deal, even when I was small. I have generally liked large meals and thats it! My calorie target is 2000. Is 100grams uncooked oatmeal with 30g of almonds or mixed nuts too much in one sitting? Would I be better splitting it to two 50g servings a day? Thanks

Is a steak cooked well done any healthier?
Just curious on this one, I don't eat much steak - probably once a month but is a medium or well done steak healthier than the other? I hear about levels of carcinogens increasing when frying or grilling steak for longer periods but i rarely eat fried food so that does not worry me to be honest. Is it just down to personal…

Are these bars made with natural sugars good if consumed in large amounts.
Hi - In my local grocery store they sell Pure fruit and nut bars like almond, cashew and date bars or coconut and macadamia nut bars. They only use natural sugars and each bar contains around 12g of sugar. Is a diet high in natural sugar OK for someone who already has a high carb, high protein, high fibre diet? (good fats…

What type of oatmeal is best in terms of GI index / nutritional value.
Partly on behalf of a family member, they want to know which type (cut / process) of oats are healthiest in terms of GI index. On my part what is the best nutritionally. I eat 100g uncooked weight morning and another 50/100g in the evening everyday pretty much. I don't snack on anything else really as calorie wise I tend…

How much protein is too much ?
Hi there, I had a very poor diet and suddenly decided I need to make a change, I was eating so much processed food and 'junk' food. Microwave burgers and many pizzas a week. Chocolate bars daily, crisps etc... and VERY little fruit and veg. I never put a great deal of weight on surprisingly but the diet was poor. Now maybe…

Is eating 2 baked potatoes for one meal bad?
Normally one does not seem enough for me so I normally have two standard size ones. I'm just thinking of GI index and in the long term diabetes. Would eating 2 on a regular basis be bad in the long run or is it more to genetics and being overweight that contributes to diabetes. I tend to pair the potatoes with a good…

Will a week or two eating loads of buttery, cheesy products affect my cholesterol?
Off to France at Christmas and want to indulge in lots of typical french foods such as croissants, cheese, chocolate for a couple of weeks. I know a typical croissant has around 10 grams of saturated fat. And with all the other foods and cheese etc... the intake will be very high. The ' french paradox ' keeps coming to my…

Ground turkey vs Lean Ground Beef/Steak
Hi all, At my grocery store ground turkey (7% fat) has the same fat content per 100g as ground lean steak (5% fat) per 100g. Both have around 140 calories too but i'm not concerned about that aspect anyway. The differences that stand out to me are the protein content per 100g are much higher (10g higher in the steak) and…
