HRM - when do you press STOP ??
hi all, I have a Polar FT4 HRM which I love, I never exercise without it (except netball, when I can't wear any jewellery - so watches n rings have to be removed). So my question, and I've been using it for about it a year, and it's never really occurred to me to ask.. but here goes.. When do you press stop ?? If I go for…

Fitbit vs Nike Fuel Band
So... I've seen these two products, MIGHT be interested in getting one (I do love a gimmick/gadget!)... and I need all the help I can get to encourage me to be more active. So I know people with both - fiance has Nike Fuel Band and friends have FitBit - what's the difference ? Other than a massive price difference..…

Next step - running 5km+
Hi all, I need your advice please fellow MFP peeps! :) I have managed to increase my running to 5km 3-4 times per week, I'm still quite slow which I'm actually OK with, but I'm wondering what the next stage is... If I wanted to get better at running (sometimes 5km is HARD, other times easier) - I've been advised to do some…

HRM - can you wear strap only ? Leave watch.. still work?
Hi, I have rejoined a netball team, and I can't wear any jewellery, including rings and watches. So I can't wear my usual HRM strap with watch (I've a Polar FT4) which I love, I never exercise without it. Helps me know exactly what I'm burning, rather than guess work. So... I can't wear the watch. Will the strap still work…

Ideals & Targets (vs height)
So... I'm a 36yr old woman - at 5'7" - I weigh 191 lbs. Aiming for 161 lbs (11 1/2 stone) - which is what I weighed when I married for the first time, back in 2003. I was then a UK size 12 (occasionally a 14 depending on style/cut), this was about right for my height, build and lifestyle. I started this journey again at…

3km run at lunch-time - worth it ?
Hi all, I am fairly new to running, but it's fair to say I have definitely caught the running bug. I feel down when I can't get out, and hate rest days (but know they are necessary)... :) I am a slow runner (I can complete 5km in 35-38mins), and have been able to run 3 times per week (5km at a time), and I love it. Here's…

Couscous.. my new best friend! Recipe ideas please ?
Discovered couscous, something I've had in pre-made salads bought in tubs, or had at other people's BBQs, never really thought to cook it myself. I say "cook" - you just pour boiling water over it !!! So quick, easy, tasty and surprisingly low in cals, compared to pasta and rice. So.. any ideas what I can do with it ?…

Can run 5km 3 times per week, what next ?
Hi there, Well it seems I've caught the bug! :-) I've heard it happens like that, but well.. here I am... I trained for a 5km Race For Life (last weekend), it took a while to build up, but now I can run 5km without stopping (most the time! 3 out of 4 times perhaps, every now and then I find I can't finish it, and I need…

Running (or rather jogging) 5km...
Hi there, I am new to running (well jogging really!), and wondered if we could compare times for running 5km. Just to give me an idea of what to be aiming for... I am currently JUST about able to run the full 5km, some days I have to stop for 1-2 mins to walk to catch my breath before continuing (usually around the 3km…

Home exercises - weights/toning
Hi, I'm stepping up my running training, so I'm running 5km 3 times a week. Which is going really well. I jog really slowly, but on most occasions I am able to keep up the jog pace for the full 5km. On my rest days, I don't want to do anything that will jeopardise this training, but want to do something toning-wise. I…

Unexplained bloatedness & suspected gain ??
OK.. it's taking ALL my willpower NOT to step on the scales, one day before weigh in (usually Saturday mornings). I've felt under-the-weather yesterday and today. Not sure if it's the start of a cold or flu - anyhoo, I've avoided the gym as I've ached all over, I blamed the aches on the gym at first, but I've only been…

FT4M - question about "Maximum Heart Rate" input ?
Hi, Just noticed on my HRM (FT4M) that this info is asked for at the same time as my gender, DOB and height/weight. I went in to adjust my weight, having lost 13 lbs. But noticed that I can amend/input my "Maximum Heart Rate" ? I don't think I input this when I first got it. This is the first time I've noticed it. Should I…

Weighing more after a workout
Before anyone tells me off.. I know it's bad to rely on the scales and weigh yourself too much. And ultimately I am more than happy with the results in terms of looking better and trimming up, the scales are also moving, but I am trying to focus on how I feel, and how I look, and how my clothes feel etc as a gauge. BUT...…

Bfast cereal ideas.. for the autumn
I'm not big into my bfast cereals, weetabix bores me and I hate soggy cornflakes. I've recently discovered smoothies, which are good when you have the time to mix it up, and filling. Off to Wagamama's at lunch - any recommendations ? I'm switching meals today (ie having a bigger lunch, lighter tea - so will have my chicken salad wrap tonight instead of for lunch). HRMs and pausing between sets...
So I have a question about HRMs... I've just started done an hour in the gym, moving from machine to machine, working each muscle group. 3 sets of each (12-15 reps, depending on the muscle/exercise). Anyway... my question... I started my HRM at the beginning of the hour, then stopped at the end. So I logged 61 mins in…

Air popped popcorn - UK
So... now I've discovered air-popped corn, rather than shop-bought popcorn - who can tell me something to flavour it with, that won't ruin it and/or add to many cals to it. Oh and that's also available here in the UK too... Thanks x

My 1st Smoothie... success! :-)
1/4 pot (approx 112g) of Onken Fat Free Vanilla Yoghurt Large banana 52g blueberries 82g Raspberries 84g Strawberries 150ml Semi Skimmed Milk Blended with some crushed ice - made enough for 2 tall glassses (for my OH and myself). The tall glasses are almost 400ml each.... AND surprisingly (for me at least!).. it took ages…

"Bodypump" Class - no of cals burned ??
Help! Off to a Bodypump class tonight - how do I log ?? There is no "Bodypump Class" on the pull down exercise section. Any thoughts ? It's weight training/strength training to music tracks, it's quite (pardon the pun!) "pumping" - hence the name. It gets pretty sweaty (used to go all the time!) so it's a CV work out too..…
