Active friends
So I am a naturally active person and my husband is naturally not. I compromise a lot by sitting in front of the tv with him...and then convince him to do something active once every 2-3 years. I need active friends who will motivate me to get back up off the couch! We move a lot and so I don't find active friends until…

Fitness buddy
So I have a question. My husband of 16 years is s couch potato. I have always been active. He doesn't understand why being active is important to me. I finally got him to promise that he would work out with me on Saturdays about 5 weeks ago...but it hasn't happened yet. This morning, I reminded him that we had a workout…

Raw vegan challenge
I am just coming off a 40 day juice fast and will be transitioning to a raw vegan diet. It's something I've done in the past and have been vegan for 3 years. I feel so great when I eat only raw foods (fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds). Does anyone want to join me?

Low FODMAPS diet
I am going to be starting the low FODMAPS diet soon (elimination phase) and wonder if anyone has any tips for this beginner.

Bathing the dogs
6 dogs who hate getting baths got theirs today in a shower stall with no walls so I had to use my legs to hold them in. It was a four hour, bent over, painful session. How many calories do you think I burned?

Ready to begin again
I am back on MFP after a 2 year break. While using it before, I reached my goal weight (which was a first for me) then went on to lose another 17 lbs. I felt great! I rewarded myself with a new wardrobe. But due to life's circumstances, I ended up moving to a town far away from a grocery store (an hour) with no money to…

I found the answer for my body!
After years of trying to lose those last 20 lbs...almost reaching my goal and gaining it all back, I have finally figured out the answer. Maybe this will help someone else, who knows. Let me preface this by saying I was highly motivated to make these changes because of several food sensetivities but I believe that even…

the dreaded trainer
Ok, so I came a couple weeks ago asking how to get faster. Because of your advice, I have been trying to figure out how to get more rides in and I finally resigned myself to the torture of the trainer. It really is the only way I can ride during the short hours of winter. You were so helpful answering that question so I am…

Gaining speed
I am the world's slowest cyclist. I wasn't always this way but since taking up biking again in 2008, after a 6ish year break from biking, I am super slow. I get really discouraged when I want to go for a long ride (50 miles) and it takes all day. I used to be able to do a century in less than 8 hours (not super fast but…

A new Monday
While I was getting my lunch ready yesterday, I actually remembered that today was meatless Monday so I was prepared this time. Eggs, an apple and oj for breakfast, a salad with a bean & grain burger pattie cut up on it and another bean & grain pattie on a bun with tomatoes and lettuce for dinner.

clean eating and backpacking
I'll be going on a weekend backpacking trip this week. I want to eat as clean as possible while out but am at a loss. I could really use your help. I have given up sugar and all sweetners except agave nectar, pur maple syrup and honey so no foods with those things in them. I have my breakfasts figured out, oatmeal with…
-
sugar free sauces
I have given up sugar and every time I think of a sauce I have used in the past, and I think I can use it, I remember it has some sort of sugar in it. For me, sugar includes artificial sugars and sweetners as well as the regular white and brown varities. I am ok with using small amounts of 100% maple syrup or agave syrup…

Nourishing Traditions
Does anyone else use the "Nourishing Traditions" book? I love that book and everything I've tried out of it so far is good. What are some of your favorites? I was going to make my own bran flakes but while flipping through the book, I found Kishk. It says it's the only thing they can reccomend as a cold cereal so I made…

That empty pit
I like to think I eat fairly healthy. I have days where I eat junk but for the most part, I cook from scratch, am trying to give up sugar and white flour and limiting all bread products. Like I said, some days are better than others but I am much better than I used to be. But I still eat too much. I am always hungry but I…

Need to stay warm
I work in an unheated warehouse and it gets bone chilling cold. My old go-to was hot chocolate. But I have given up sugar (or am trying really hard to anyway) and need unsweetened alternatives. I am not looking for artifical/natural sweetner alternatives...I just don't want it to be sugary in any way since I crave it when…

Using HRM to determine calories burned
How do you use a HRM to determine how many calories your've burned? Or is it only certain ones that do that?

Kishk
I usually eat bran flakes for breakfast. I don't like chemicals and preservatives in my food, so when I found this recipe for Kishk, I decided to give it a try. It's from my favorite cookbook, "Nourishing Traditions". It's full of non-proccessed foods. The recipe is simple. You mix equal parts bulgur and plain yogurt in a…

cramps
I have heard so many women say that exercise helps to ease their cramps. That is not at all the case with me. If I work too hard during that TOM, I end up doubled over in pain. Last night, I did a hard bike ride. With only about 5 minutes to home, the cramps started suddenly and they hit with full force. By the time I got…

not really good....
I was in the bathroom putting lotion on my hands when I looked at the ring dish where I keep my wedding ring when I'm putting lotion on. I realized the ring wasn't in the dish and it wasn't on my hand. UH OH!! I've only lost 8 pounds and I didn't notice it getting too loose but I can't for the life of me figure out what…

inspired change
There is a homeless man that I discovered living next to where I work, in the woods. I've been concerned for him since it's been so cold. I go over and give him food on occassion and talk to him. He's a nice guy. He lives under a tarp with some plastic on the sides to keep some of the wind out. When I want to eat even…

salmon for non salmon lovers
I really, really don't like salmon. It's the one healthy food my DH will eat so I have been trying to find different ways to cook it. I found this recipe online and thought I'd give it a shot. I am SOOO glad I did. I was chowing down on it and was sad when it was all gone. My DH liked it too. I didn't use quite all of the…

Riding a centurty
Anyone planning on riding a metric century or a full century this coming year? I see so many people talking about running a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon but I never really see anyone talking about a century or metric century. Biking is so much easier on your knees than running so I can't imagaine why there's not more…

A rotten night
It's in the 20's outside. That was the high (23). I got home from work, an unheated warehouse, and my neighbor came over telling me that a tree fell over and the root system lifted the fence into the air. That fence is the only thing keeping our 8 dogs (4 each) from killing each other. So I went outside and we worked on…

hiding the cookies
My DH knows I'm trying to eat healthy as I have done many times in the past. He used to purposely try to sabbotage my efforts by making delicious desserts like marble cheesecake, no bake cookies and brownies then tempting me with them. I wasn't making/buying desserts and my DH told me one night that he had gotten so…

the Christmas party test
Last ngiht I went to a Christmas party and passed the test. I ate a good, healthy dinner before I went. Then, all I ate while I was there was somewhere between 20-30 grapes, 2 tiny cubes of cheese, a little bit of spinach salad and 16 oz. of water. Toward the end, my friend convinced me to split a small peppermint brownie…

empty stomach
Why is it that I always feel like I have an empty stomach, like I need to fill it? It feels that way all the time, except for when I stuff myself to overfull. I can eat a good meal and 10 minutes later I want to find something else to eat. It's no wonder I gain weight so quickly when I am not controlling myself! Does…

absorption of calories
I am reading a book right now on probiotics and prebitoics. It's talking about how certain nutrients are more easily absorbed when you eat a healthy diet. Does your diet make a difference in how many calories are absorbed or are they all always absorbed no matter what?

Is this considered stealing?
There's this old house and barn near here that hasn't been lived in since the 70's or 80's. They sold the land finally and someone started tearing the trees off the land to make way for a subdivision. The house and barn will be bulldozed and everything in them will be sent to the dump. In the barn is an antique bed frame…

How would you classify this exercise?
I sometimes ride my bike towing my 55 lb dog in a 25 lb trailer. I also sometimes ride a bike with 50+ lbs of gear strapped to it. This burns ALOT more calories than riding unloaded, especially when you do it all day as I do sometimes. How would I log this into the exercise section without using a HRM? I can't afford one…
