A rotten night

It's in the 20's outside. That was the high (23). I got home from work, an unheated warehouse, and my neighbor came over telling me that a tree fell over and the root system lifted the fence into the air. That fence is the only thing keeping our 8 dogs (4 each) from killing each other. So I went outside and we worked on that for about 30 minutes and finally got in good enough shape to hold the dogs on the correct side of the fence. My toes and fingers were frozen numb and painful. But the heater refuses to heat the house past 60 degrees. I kept my hat, scarf and coat on in an attempt to stay warm but it is only half working. I went to rinse the dishes and the water slowed to a trickle. We had a bunch of flooding this past year in our basement so we had to dig up the water line to fix the hole in our foundation. It fixed the flooding but now the line is frozen and the ground is frozen so we can't rebury it until it thaws, hopefully soon. So we had to go back outside and put a bunch of lights on the line and build a tent over it. So now I'm back inside and freezing still/again. It's just a good thing I already allotted calories for a serving of plain yogurt with some pineapple thrown in. I could really go for some hot chocolate but the yogurt will have to do.

Not much I can say - it was truly a rotten night but good for you for sticking to the planned "menu". Because honestly if food didn't cause the problems, then food is not going to fix it. Things will look up at some point, hang in there.0

So sorry you're having a bad day. I hope things look up for you soon.0

I gotta say... your night simply sucked. Kudos to you for keeping it together.
I am ever so thankful for my woodstove. Could not live in New England without it. Keeps you warm twice... first when you are busting your butt to cut and stack the wood... then again when you burn it.
Recommendation: Try some hot tea with Stevia. You can get some very good toffee tea that has 0 calories. Add a dash of skim milk and its quite tasty and warm. Also light a bunch of candles. They actually do give some ambient heat and I find they raise my spirits.
Keep pushing along. The night will fade and the sun will rise. The shortest day of the year is one week away and then the sunlight starts returning.
You will get through this. You're stronger than the cold.0 -

Really? I was thinking it kept getting shorter and shorter until about mid February or so. Well, that's good news! The heater finally kicked in sometime during the night so my day is already looking up. Thanks everyone.0 -
The days get longer after the Shortest Day of the Year which is the Winter Solstice... otherwise known as the First Day of Winter.... which is December 21st.
It's a major celebration in our household. I crave sunshine.0
