I have given up sugar and every time I think of a sauce I have used in the past, and I think I can use it, I remember it has some sort of sugar in it. For me, sugar includes artificial sugars and sweetners as well as the regular white and brown varities. I am ok with using small amounts of 100% maple syrup or agave syrup or even small amounts of honey, and fruit is also fine is large amounts but that's pretty much it. Can you think of any good sauces that contain no sugar that would go well with chicken, and vegetables?

are you talking about savory sauces? If so, I usually just omit the sugar, without issue. A lot of sauce ingredients (like tomatoes, cream, etc) already have nautral sugars that sweeten the dish.

Do you mean tomato sauces? Prego Heart Smart I think is pretty low in sugar, check labels though.

Usually we buy plain ol' organic tomato sauce and add seasonings to it. For pasta sauce, we dont add sugar. BBQ sauce I've used a can of tomato sauce, liquid smoke, garlic / onion powder seasonings and pure mollasses. Yum.

Google sugar free sauce recipes, there's many out there! :)

    tomato sauce
    Bolognese sauce
    lemon wine butter sauce
  • I love using mustard (regular plain mustard, NOT honey mustard) with chicken and veggies. For dips you can try hummus. If you like creamier sauces you can add seasoning into light cream cheese or ricotta cheese :)

If you want sweeter sauces but still want to limit sugar intake, you can try mixing your sauces. Like mix a little bit of honey (good, real honey) into mustard. It usually has less sugar than store bought honey mustard.

I'm not a big fan of cooked tomatoes...but that mustard sounds like a great idea! I'll give that a shot.
