Soda. To drink or not to drink, that is the question
I gave up all soda for Lent back in 2009. Haven't had it since (except for a few accidental sips). I used to drink a lot of it. I switched to diet soda about 9-10 years ago, but I drank loads of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi. I gave it up almost 3 years ago and now I have no desire for it. The thought of it does not entice like…

Running Success
One of the best things that MFP has helped me dig out of storage is my love of running. I was a track and cross country runner in high school. I also had to run a lot while in the Navy, so I have a decent base, but I got out of it for quite a while. I started MFP back in September, but got serious about running again in…

Scotch fans
Anyone else get some of there daily calories from Scotch? I haven't gotten too many from it in the past several months, but one of my goal weight treats was buying a bottle of 12yr old Macallan. Who else is a scotch fan? What is your scotch of choice?

One year ago today
So I signed up for this site called Timehop.com that will send you an email of your activity on Foursquare, and selected posts to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the current day, one year ago. Inadvertently, its a daily reminder for me of how I stayed at my heaviest weight for so long. Today's email featured Dunkin…

Hal Higdon Half iPhone Apps
Anyone used these before to train for a race? Worth the $9.99? Better than just using RunKeeper?

Hit My Goal Weight!
What took me about 13 years to put on, took me since September to take off. I've been up and down several times since then, but this time I'm committed to having it gone for good! I'm so glad that I finally took back the reigns and got control of my weight. After several months, I have dropped 51 pounds. 215 to 164. Who…

Baseball
I am a huge MLB fan. A Phillies fan for my whole life. I'm getting really excited about this season coming up. Even more excited b/c I just bought my first tickets for the year :) Anyone else big baseball fans? Who is your team?

Walking with a kid on your shoulders
Anyone have a clue how to account for a kid on a piggy back ride while walking or hiking? Just curious. I went for a hike with the family and had my 30lb son on my shoulders for about half of it. I'll take the free extra calories for sure. Just wondering if anyone else has a way to figure it out.

Car Test Drive NSV
Went to go test drive a new MiniVan for the family last night and had an unexpected NSV. When the salesman came back to give me my license after copying it, and he had to do a double take. He didn't think he had the right license. My license said I was 185, but I has probably closer to 205 in the picture, and now almost 40…

Hal Higdon Half training
I'm stuck. I dont know if I should do Hal Higdon's Novice 1 or 2 plan. The race in May will be my first. I can easily run more than the starting distances of both. I can bang out 6 miles pretty easily. I've already run 11.25 miles at just over my hoped for race pace. I can do some speed work, but not the intermediate level…

A healthier you
So what small changes or decisions did you make today to make yourself a more healthy version of you? Exercise, eating, or anything. My decision was to pass up the Chick Fil A nuggets that I really wanted and get a side salad instead.

Running in the snow
Did anyone get out there today and run in the snow? Too icy in my area, so I opted for the gym and the treadmill.

Rest in Peace Joe Pa
Put some of the recent things aside, he was a college football icon. Rest in Peace.

Hal Higdon Half and Strength Training
Starting my half training schedule soon, and was curious what other folks have done as far as strength training. I see it as one day a week, but how much extra strength training should I throw in? 3x a week?

How to cut fat and build muscle
So, I'm 1.5 from my goal weight, and now I really want to drop my body fat %. I'll good with 165, but I really want to be in the low teens for BF%. Going to go to maintenance mode as far as calories go. I'm a runner, and training for a half marathon, so I'll be doing a lot of cardio with some strength training thrown in.…

Eating out and MFP
My wife and I eat out a couple of times a week. I think one of the excellent habits MFP has instilled in me is doing advanced recon on menus and getting a general idea of what I should eat before I go. The more info I have, the easier it is to make healthier choices. I know that I will not be able to use MFP for the rest…

Running Goals for 2012
I'm setting what seems to me right now as a really ambitious goal. In 2012, I will run 500 miles. No excuses, just do it. When I look at it a little more closely, this should pretty easy. Since I'm doing 2 Half Marathons next year, I will probably do around 400 miles in training plus the race thanks to Hal Higdon. 500…

Unintended Negative Consequences of weight loss
My wedding ring is starting to feel too loose. And I'm freaking cold all of the time now! I lost all of that extra insulation!

Running Outside vs Running on a Treadmill
I mix my runs between outside and on a treadmill at my gym. I seem to have to put out a lot more effort to run the same speed inside on the treadmill than I do outside. I can sustain 6+ mph outside for a lot longer than I can on the treadmill. (Always run at 1% incline on the treadmill) Anyone have the same issue? Any clue…

NSV at work
This week alone, I've had 3 people say that seeing the success I've had recently had motivated them to get moving and drop some weight. Funny thing is that one of my other co-workers was one of my motivators for getting into better shape. Glad I can provide inspiration to others.

Half Marathon Pacing
So I've never run a half marathon before, and I'm signed up for 2 next year. I just doing some longer term planning, and my first race on May 6th. Currently my longest run (yesterday) was at 9.1 miles. I averaged a 9:48 mile pace during the run, and actually felt pretty good after it. I'm sure that I could have done…

Greek Yogurt
I've been trying to eat more of this stuff. IMO, Fage is way better than Yoplait's offering. I'm currently enjoying a Fage 2% with Peach. Anyone else have a favorite greek yogurt brand and flavor?

New Years Resolution
So how many people had a 2011 New Years Resolution to lose some weight? It took me until September to really get started and until December to meet my goal. I'm so thankful that I found MFP this year. I'm glad that "Lose Weight" will finally not have to be a 2012 New Years Resolution for me. I'm not looking forward to how…
