Anyone used these before to train for a race? Worth the $9.99? Better than just using RunKeeper?

I used that app. I liked it. Every 10 minutes he give motivational advice. It keeps track of your pace and will do splits. I highly recommend it.

Is it any better than RunKeeper?

Not too sure. Hal Higdon does have a website that shows what his half marathon plan looks like. The app is only for the novice plan. He has a novice 2 plan for those who have run a few half marathons. It might give you an indication as to which plan might appeal to you. I have Runkeeper, but have never bought any of the plans, just use it to keep track of my runs or map out a run.

Yeah, I was wondering if you could use both at the same time. I've never run a half before, but I've got a good distance base, so Novice 2 is the one I'm going with.

I have used them at the same time. You can program either one to play music. Higdon will let you know how many miles you have left and your half way point. I occasionally have issues with both programs being able to map my run. Not too sure why it gets a little crazy, but it doesn't happen all the time.
