injury or soreness? diagnosis please
I ran a 10K last Sunday and I have been feeling pain in my ankle/calf area. it starts under the edge of the ankle on the outside of my right foot, and goes upp the outer edge of my calf, right behind the bone. I especially feel it when my foot is in a pointed position. it's only on the right side, so does this sound like…

hey teachers - you'll love this!
my school often has visitors, members of the press, etc. who come to see what we're doing to make the kids so successful, try to dig up dirt, whatever. we had a reporter in this morning, and one of my kids happened to be in the front office, signing in to go to the bathroom. the principal asked him to come into her office…

Please someone try this....
and tell me how it is. The idea is that the oats fill up the fiber content, so a little serving fills you up, but I want a braver soul than me to try it first: INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup instant oats 1/4 cup nonfat plain yogurt 1/2 cup packed baby spinach, thinly sliced 1/4 cup packed basil, chopped, plus 1 sprig 1/4 cup grated…

10K tomorrow?? OPINIONS please
I have signed up for a 10K tomorrow. I have been training (kind of) and could probably walk/run it in about an hour and a half. I am feeling reluctant to go do it, because I have never run that many miles (6.2 miles) ever, and I just don't want to have a bad experience. I did my 5K on Superbowl Sunday, I felt great, I did…

Save Fitness Chick!
I received a message from a very sad Fitness Chick telling me she is leaving MFP because she is so hurt over mean folks posting on the boards. I was devastated to hear that one of my inspirations was contemplating leaving. Her page has not yet been deactivated, so maybe she is mulling it over before she truly decides. Join…

hi guys can I vent and get your advice? LENGTH warning
kiddo situation: he is my stepson, 17years old. very good kid, very respectful, excellent grades, trustworthy. a little spoiled (monetarily) by (absentee)Mom, and a little bit of entitlement. injury specifics, warning to the squeamish-
I smashed my middle finger in a window this morning at school. It is a swinging window, and the crank is broken, so I was trying to close it by swinging it in to slam it shut, and I wasn't fast enough and it smashed my middle finger. The nail was torn off, the fingertip was hanging loose, and the hospital deemed that the…

measuring tape, how do I love thee?
I just took my measurements and even though the scale hasn't moved, my least-favorite measurement, the one where I circle the fattest part of my waist, has dropped by an entire inch. I also saw 1/2 inch drops in natural waist (bellybutton level) and thigh.     anybody else…

I'd like some encouragement
I have had great success in the beginning, but then my losses have stalled out and I think I am too low in calories. So here's what I did. I am approaching the "overweight" instead of "obese" BMI, so I dropped the weight loss rate to 1.5 lbs/week (was set to 2 lbs/week). I also set my daily to "lightly active" instead of…
-
Hey Teachers!!!
Did you classify yourselves as sedentary or lightly active? I have stalled out on my loss, and I'm wondering if this is the issue. I am standing for probably 1/3-1/2 of the school day, but that's it. I walk my kids to lunch downstairs, and retrieve them from lunch, stairs again. But my heart rate never increases so am I…

How often to reassess goals?
When I began, on 12/27, I put in my information and got a 1530 calories a day recommendation to lose 2 lb/week. I have been doing well, and in the first month, dropped off 16 lbs (YAY goodbye 16 lbs). But in the last week and a half, I have not seen any loss at all. I know it comes off faster in the very beginning, but I…

Gratitude Cafe
My DH and I went into Bezerkley today and we found the most amazing restaurant. It is called the Gratitude Cafe, and they have an all vegan, all raw food, no soy, no gluten, no wheat, totally organic, menu. Sounds terrible right? The food was FREAKING AWESOME. I am not even kinda joking. It was DELICIOUS!!! My DH…

What do you guys think?
I have set my goals at 2 lb/week, and I have been here since 12/27 (so that's four weeks as of tomorrow). I have always been 100% honest about what I log(both food and exercise), and have tried to eat back exercise calories, if I fail to hit the full mark, I am only leaving behind maybe 100~150 cals. So it seems like I am…

sabotage!
Do you guys notice that people in your life (husbands, bf, whoever) seem to sabotage your efforts? My husband just went and bought new york steaks, crab legs, and champagne for tonight's dinner. I calculated it, and it is a 1500 calorie dinner, even if I only eat half of the steak. What do I do? His response is- celebrate…
