circumventing failure
You ever have one of those days when you know you're going to overeat your calorie allowance? Dinner and drinks with friends, or you just wake up starving because you had an early dinner? I feel terrible when I go over my calorie count, so I have a "back-up" number - the number of calories I can eat to maintain my current…

Maintenance Friends?
I'm re-introducing myself, since I've been gone for a couple of years. I'm a teacher in Boston, 2 months away from being 31. I had steadily gained a few pounds until I was just on the heavier side of healthy, and then sent on a university diet study that brought my weight back down, about 3 years ago. Now, I'm about 5…

Sit vs Stand Calories Burned
I found this interesting article about how calories are calculated: http://www.ehow.com/about_5472437_calories-burned-standing-vs-sitting.html I remember reading about a guy who was interested in increasing his non-exercise-activity calories, which they say make up 30% of calories burned (the majority of calories burned…

Triathalon
The girl who used every excuse in the book to get out of gym has signed up for a triathalon - in two weeks. I never thought this would be me. A straight-A student, the only class I ever cut was gym. Now I'm on a team with my husband - he's doing the swimming and I'm doing the cycling. I've never done sports or anything…

Weight Machines: What do you do?
I'd really appreciate it if people could share their weight machine work outs. What machines do you use? How many reps to do you? How much weight? How many sets? Do you switch everyday?

Why am I even trying?
Weight stable when I don't count, weight stable when I do count, burn 300 calories a day, and abstain from alcohol. Why bother?

Work out from home suggestions
There are days when I physically can't get to the gym - they re open 10-10, and I'm working 8AM - 9 PM. I don't like letting myself off the hook for not exercising. Any one have suggestions for exercises in a small apartment? (My neighborhood isn't walkable). Please no running in place, but it would be great to get the…

back of thigh and lower tummy exercises?
Any suggestions for these two areas? I wouldn't mind something that could combine toning these areas with cardio. Usually I do speed walking on the treadmill, but I've been doing it for years and haven't seen any improvement down there!

Cutting Back Alcohol
Is any out there trying to cut back on alcohol? Interested in starting a group? I'm having a hard time and could use some support!

May (Early) No Eating at Night group
Open to all! I've got to stop snacking at night - I'm not even hungry! But I see my husband snacking and it makes me want to snack, too. In front of the TV even! I've broken the habit once, I can do it again!

Definitely not low calorie density
For breakfast, I had 500 calories of peanut butter. Licked off a spoon. (I was hungry.) I'm screwed for the rest of the day, I thought. But, I haven't been hungry for the past seven hours. Maybe I've got to think outside the box. I've been eating apples, oatmeal, and cashews for breakfast for weeks and find myself hungry…

april no eating at night month thread?
Can someone help me find this thread? I've been looking and looking. I'm ready to join! (Though there's only a few days left...)

Getting back on the wagon is tough
I was doing so well - it takes so little to throw me off the wagon. My husband and I got taken out to dinner by a law firm interested in hiring him. Chinese banquets are so difficult - I can't even make a guess at what the food is, I'm never full because you just take tiny bites, and I can't estimate or measure it because…

I stopped!
Last night was a night out, and I met my pledge to myself. l stuck with diet coke (3 of them) when we moved on to another bar. And my buzz stayed with me. I can do it!

stress
How do you deal with stress, especially deadlines? I don't stress-eat, but I do feel like I make myself sick. My stomache gets all tied up in knots.

My favorite snack
As a vegetarian, I get most of my protein and fats from carbs like nuts, seeds, and beans. I decided to swap out granola in my yogurt for sunflower seeds to get more protein and fat - yum! They're a little salty to mix with the sweet granola, and they make me eat my yogurt slower because I have to chew.

More Confessions, and a Pledge
Yesterday was a friends birthday, and I didn't plan for it. But instead of just having one or two drinks, I gave up. I have a hard time telling myself that a little bit of failure is not the same thing as a lot of failure - if I go over, I keep going over. This is my new pledge to myself: When I go out, I WILL NOT drink…

Healthy Fats?
I'm always low on my fat and proteins - I eat apples and bananas and rice all day. Every time I try to introduce healthy fats, I go over my calorie count. Any suggestions for adding in healthy fats? They're so small for so many calories!

Confession
Sometimes I just have to use this space to let it out, so I stop thinking about how I messed up. I went over my calories yesterday. Way over. And not because I binged; just because I was hungry and ate when I was hungry. We had some strange Chinese food that I didn't know how to log (I live in China - sometimes I don't…

Weight Maintenance
Anyone out there using this site for maintaining their current weight? I'm a pound or two over my ideal, and I find maintaining harder than when I was losing it - everyday the scale gave me good feedback, and now it's up and down. Now that success isn't about the scale, I've got to look for other successes - today I was…

Weekend Help
Does anyone have any tips for the weekend? My biggest problem is I'm not willing to give up going out for drinks, and alcohol has a lot of calories. Also, we stay up later so I get hungry again. Then there's also the problem with tracking, since we're on the go and not near the Internet. Along with the lack of set meal…

Tips for the Buffet
I'm a Buffet Binger. Especially at this new Taiwanese Vegetarian Buffet we found, where the food is exotic so calories are hard to count. I feel like I have to stuff my face to get my money's worth! Here are some tips I've found: 1. Some say have a high-fiber snack before you go. This tip is hard for me to do myself, but…

Data Nut
Hi there, I'm excited to be part of this community. I participated in a study around weight loss and it's connection to longevity through Tufts University last year. I went from 146 to 123, but without the constant super vision, I'm up to 129. I'm trying to keep my calorie intake to 1800, like I did on the study, because I…
