You ever have one of those days when you know you're going to overeat your calorie allowance? Dinner and drinks with friends, or you just wake up starving because you had an early dinner? I feel terrible when I go over my calorie count, so I have a "back-up" number - the number of calories I can eat to maintain my current weight, or to maintain my idea weight. This way, nothing is lost, but nothing is gained either. I keeps me on the band wagon instead of making me feel like, "Oh well, I ruined it, what's the point!" My weight loss allowance is 1440 a day when I can't get in a workout, but it's 1690 a day if I'm only looking to maintain. Suddenly, I'm still magically on the band wagon! I'm so much more likely to log my calories the next day, and stay under 1440, when I use this method.

When those random days happen, I just enjoy the time with friends and family and don't stress about it. I get back on track the next day and don't think twice. One day every once in a while has very little effect on anything. A pattern of overeating over days, weeks, months and years will.

I just make sure that I only go over my number (strangely, 1690, the same as your maintenance) once or twice a week, and it's usually on weekends when I don't have access to healthier foods. Most people think that going over once a week is a good idea to try and raise the amount of intake for the week.
