Friendship & Intro Thread
Hi & welcome! I thought it might be nice to have a "community chat" thread here. We all seem to rub elbows here quite a bit, but not enough to really get to know each other. I live in British Columbia, Canada. Just found out that I had hypothyroidism in April, and found this forum extremely helpful to answer the questions…

Menu ideas
Hi Y'all! :drinker: I'm on maintenance now, but still doing almost exactly what I was when I was losing weight, only trying not to drop my calories. (I used alternating calories to lose wt. without lowering my metabolism). Problem is, now that I'm at my goal weight, I'm afraid of adding foods. So, I was wondering if some…

Adjusting Thyroid &/or Adrenal meds
I've been dealing with a few new symptoms, trying to figure out which med needs adjusting...thyroid or adrenals... So, according to stop the thyroid madness (my new reference book), I needed to take a temperature test. Which I've been doing (takes 3 days); with one more day to go. As it is averaging exactly the same, and…

Hi friends, I have a question for you well-seasoned in this thyroid/adrenal stuff.... My blood pressure has been on the low side all my life... Now I'm taking treatment for thyroid & adrenal right now, and suddenly my blood pressure is going up & up. I thought it was bad Monday when it was 144/64 but yesterday it was…

No wonder!
Well, I just got back from seeing the Dr & getting my test results. Last week my TSH was almost 5 this week its 7.43; T3 is 1.1; t4 is 16.4 Its no wonder I'm in such a brain fog & metabolism is slowing down. I actually got the Dr. that doesn't care about T3 & T4; and he doesn't like natural thyroid, but went ahead & gave…

TSH rising again... :-(
Well, I went to see what my latest TSH results were today. It has gone back up to 4.95 again. This time I was lucky & got the Dr (I go to a clinic) that believes in testing the T3 & t4 levels. He offered to test them again, when I asked for the results to take to the Naturopath. He also said the TSH level takes 2…

A visit with the Naturopath
Well, that went really well! Lots of affirmation on my diet & supplements. Tested for everything under the sun... and my thyroid is pretty much under control. The adrenals, however are tanked... so she gave me dissicated Adrenal & licorice to take twice a day. Unfortunates, for me... no milk products...:ohwell: the…

Something's working!
Well, I have happy news. My blood test came back 2.1 TSH. After cutting my dose down to a miniscule amount. And I am also feeling so much better... My doctor suggested I drop the synthroid all together & try to get some more iodine (after I stop taking synthroid)... then check next month & see if my levels stay good. He…

How many hours of sleep do you need?
I just watched the Dr's... or part of it anyway. They made a statement about sleep. If you get 10 or more hours of sleep a day, something is wrong... (they did mention hypothyroid). I need to sleep AT LEAST 10 hrs. at night, and usually have a nap in the afternoon (from 1-2 hrs)... have done that for years. What about you?…

Feeling better :-)
I saw my Dr. today & my TSH level is normal. And when I told him my symptoms he lowered my dose, to be checked in 2 weeks. I also told him about the bad experience with the kelp drops (bad heart reaction). He suggested I try adding seaweed, so I bought that today & tasted it. Yuk! But I'll try some in my salads, as he…

Intolerance to heat??
Hi, I'm on my 3rd week on a low dose of synthroid. I have noticed an increasing intolerance to heat, and have been actually breaking out in a sweat after falling to sleep. Is this a symptom of hypothyroidism, or a reaction to synthroid? Online you can find both. I also have had a cold the whole month... so its hard for me…

Virgin Coconut Oil - Long-term - Success Stories?
I just started using virgin coconut oil, working at getting up to the 3 TBS. @ day. But I'm not sure I want to go that high. So far, it seems to be effecting me in a positive way, but I am not totally convinced. It just feels so greasy & "cloggy" If you have been using this in your diet long term, please share your…

How long does it take to make a difference?
Hi everyone, I really appreciate this board & being able to read what you all have been through. I am new to Hypothyroidism, have known for less than a month that I have it. I started on Synthroid about 10 days ago. Thought I "might" be getting better at first. But have been having lots of the same symptoms with…

New to this
Hi, I've been reading the boards since I found out my thyroid test came out low. The dr tested my levels & today I was put on a low dose of Synthroid. I asked about Armour and he'd never heard of it, Nor had the pharmacist (even though I live in Canada)? Maybe its called something else. Anyway, he said my TSH is 5.67; T3…
