ASD on MFP
I thought a thread for people on the autistic spectrum might be useful. Or not. Somewhere to vent about the unique set of struggles we might face in the persuit of health. Or somewhere to avoid eye contact and barely acknowledge each other... but in a friendly way.

What exercise equipment do you have at home?
And what kit do you highly recommend? Very few people come to the house (a combination of living out of the way, and the charms of my dog) so we've turned the sitting room into our gym. We've currently got: Bench and rack, Free weights (standard and Olympic), Treadmill, Punchbag, Yoga ball, We're planning on getting more…

Furry workout buddies!
Mostly because I want to see the cute pupper pics, who works out with their four legged friends? When I'm walking I take both, Charlie and Edward, but if I'm running I only take Edward because his pace matches mine so well. Edward

I think Arnie lied!
Ever watched Pumping Iron? He tells us, repeatedly, that getting the pump feels like having an orgasm. As I collapse, jelly legged and sweating buckets, into the nearest chair, I can't help but feel somewhat conned :| I'd think it was just me, because I'm pretty slap dash, except my OH feels exactly the same. And he's been…

Interesting study on the causes of anorexia
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41588-019-0439-2 Hidden in the genes they found a metabolic cause, as well as the expected psychological causes. This could lead to new treatments, which could improve the tragically low success rates of current treatments.

Whining about my period
The flow is so heavy that it's literally filled and overflowed my cup at least half a dozen times in the last 18 hours. I'm tired, I'm crampy, I'm drained. I'm laying in bed, where I've been laying all day, with no intention of getting any more exercise than is required to haul my grouchy self to the bathroom. I've almost…

who else finds weight loss easy?
i needed to, temporarily, gain some weight. personal reasons. losing it again has been a piece of cake! ...a fairly small piece, because that's how this stuff works, but a piece of cake nonetheless. I've found the same thing with baby weight too. but i almost never hear/read anyone else saying it's an easy thing for them…

pointless whine thread
feel free to wah in my thread! today i only stayed at the gym 30 minutes because one of the staff was in the room & kept asking if i was ok, offering to help. dude even chased me out to my car with some lost&found keys. and the gym was packed. i need 'bog off!' t-shirt for those who fail to realise what an antisocial git i…

'the free weight room? no, that's where the men do weights.'
said to me by the lady at the gym when i went to book an induction. this is the lady who will be doing my induction. though they obviously have all the cool toys there, it's kinda reenforced all my motivations for only having done weights at home. so, ladies, how heavy are you lifting? outa curiosity.

do you have 'people pleaser' issues?
what sort of problems does it cause for you?

Have you tried NOT telling everyone you're on a diet?
That sounded far cattier than intended, but hey ho. Given how many threads are made about bad experiences caused by everyone else's reaction to your diet, is it better to just not tell everyone? With a few exceptions it seems that the masses are at best annoying (offering a ton of unwanted bad advice) and at worst…

the good, the bad and the ugly.
name yours. the good: my brain. i'm smart. very smart. and i learn fast. i'm the smug git at the top of the class. the bad: i have the attention span of an adhd toddler who just drank three cans of redbull. some days everything is a distraction. the ugly: i had a wart on my elbow, which i've been treating with salicylic…

do you only work out when you're working out?
or do you try to fit little bits into your day? such as, i'll do upright pushups against a table while i'm waiting for the microwave to ping, or i'll do a few squats or lunges as i'm walking from one room to another. my house has randomly placed kettlebells & dumbbells in various rooms, just in case i get the sudden urge…

cautions on exercise DVDs
i bought the 30ds and i was slightly put off by the lack of health warnings & guidelines. divina's work outs all make you listen to a 'consult your doc, do not exercise on pain killers, listen to your body, exercise x times a week.' before you can play the workout. i like that. it reassures me. right or wrong, the lack of…

odd question: HRMs and arrhythmia
i've found with my mother's combigned blood pressure/pulse rate machine, my arrhythmia tends to confuse the machine. when my heart misses a beat or two it thinks there is an error, that it's lost my pulse, and resets. i wouldn't want to invest in a HRM if it's not going to work. is there any point in investing in a HRM?…

do your family work out with you?
this morning, for the first time, i took my 12y/o son out on my 4am jog around town. he absolutely loved it and, even though there wasn't much conversation, i felt like it was quality time and a bonding experience. on pleasant days i'll crowbar the teenager off her computer and we'll all go for a nice, long walk in the…

i just lost 8lb in three days
and it was all PMS bloating. it means nothing. i know i was very bloated this month but i thought i would post just to illustrate a point. i've seen a few threads by women who weigh daily, freaking over sudden gains.

i always scoff the lot within an hour of them arriving. they are too damn yummy to ration out! i can't be the only one here who does that. were i slimming, they would be counter productive.
