I'm curious about this, too -- and HR in general. I'm one of those people that rests at 50, and works out at 170-180, well above the "safe" range for my age...but if I don't, I can't even break a sweat (unless it's yoga!). So I'm supposedly unhealthy because my heart rate is too high, but if that were the case, wouldn't my resting HR be too high, too? BP is pretty low, too, 90s over 50s or low 60s. I haven't been able to find much in the way of answers, so I'm going to creep on your topic and hope we find some people who have some good HR resourcees.0

I'm no expert, but I'll keep this threat floating in hope some who is sees it.
That being said, I don;t believe there is a relationship to BMR and resting pulse rate.
Have you had your VO2 Max tested? I know VO2 max can be differences in individuals can throw off the al burn estimates of HR monitors.0 -
Unless you an elite athlete, your heart rate should be above 60. I have bradycardia, it's a heart rate below 60 for non-athletes. My resting is 45 bpm. I always thought that was a good thing. It isn't for me. You may want to get it checked out.0

I can't find any sources right now but I've been reading that there is actually an inverse relationship between resting heart rate (HR) and metabolism i.e. the lower your resting HR the higher your metabolism is - especially fat metabolism for some reason.
Most experts put the normal range for resting HR between 60 bpm and 80 although some use 50 as the low end. Generally, the closer you are to the lower end of the spectrum, the healthier you are. Although anything outside of that range should definitely be checked by a doctor there is probably no need for concern; for most people who are excercising a lot and eating healthy lower should not a bad thing at all.0 -

I don't think this is absolute. I don't doubt what you said about yourself, but many of us, who are not elite athlete, but who keep exercising in the right form do get lower pulse. As far as I heard, that's pretty healthy.0 -

Same here. My pulse is always 50ish. My doctors actually were very pleasantly amazed.0
