Tough Mudder Electric Shock Therapy...
So I'm planning to participate in the Tough Mudder 2014 (in the fall-October I think). I've got over a year to prepare and have already started training. Physically, I know I can work hard over the next year and get myself there. But anyone who has heard of Tough Mudder knows there's more than just the physical aspect of…

Why honesty is not always the best policy...
*edited to add* THIS IS A RANT...of a frustrated bridesmaid. So I'm throwing a bachelorette party for a very good friend of mine. I had planned a personal party, providing appetizers and drinks...the plan was then to hit the town for drinks and have the girls crash at my place so nobody had to drive (I was going to be the…

What's for dinner?
Tonight at our house it's smoked salmon spaghetti carbonara...wilted spinach and lemon green beans. How about you?

Fellow Polers?
Anyone else out there into pole? It's a fantastic exercise and my new favorite way to strength train and get my cardio...gotta say it's not just for women either! Did a tricks and spins class yesterday (it's a co-ed class) and a guy was there that was in sick shape...and he enjoyed it as much as the rest of us. Just…

Calories burned during Mari Winsor Pilates?
So I do a pilates DVD (can't afford classes in addition to my gym membership) and it's the Mari Winsor classic mat exercise for 1 hour. Does anybody know how many calories this burns? I'm finding a massive difference between MFP and all other sites I've looked at...as little as 122 calories and as much as 240?

Hip and knee pain while running
So I invested in the good shoes...great warm winter running gear...I worked my way up to running just under 7 miles without stopping (outside-combination trails and pavement) and I LOVE to run...but I'm getting a lot of pain in my hip sockets and my knees...I know it's probably my form but...anybody have advice on this?…

Running with dogs
So I have two boxers. One is older (8-9 years old, we're not totally sure) the other is just about one year old now. The older dog I can't run with...he has some behavior issues around other dogs and can be difficult to control...we're working on it. The other dog has SO much energy, she would really benefit from the…

Puppy play-how far is too far?
So I already posted a separate topic on my puppy pulling or not paying attention when we run... I notice when my two boxers play it can sometimes get rough. They nip and bark and throw each other around, which is normal behavior...but they also like to chew/nibble on each other and sometimes on us. They never bite...but…

Home for Christmas...not so much.
I'm feeling particularly sad this Christmas. I'm from Montana and flights back home were just too much money for my husband and I to fly home and be with my family this year. I'm extremely homesick...my mother passed away a year ago tomorrow on Christmas Eve morning so being able to go home was very important to me this…

Gingerbread Pancakes
A little Christmas treat for everyone...my recipe for gingerbread pancakes! 93 calories each, one recipe yields about 11 pancakes (good sized ones). Three of them plus 1/2 Tbsp light butter and 1/2 Tbsp real maple syrup is under 350 calories. Enjoy! 1 1/2 cups flour 2 Tbsp brown sugar (not packed) 1 1/2 tsp baking powder…

Hypoglycemia and exercise/weight loss
This is getting frustrating. I have type I diabetes and I'm exercising routinely (5-6 days a week, sometimes 6-7), running mostly but also some cross training (Pilates, stair climber, circuit training, etc). I've made some progress with weight loss, but a lot of times, I end up going over on my calories because of…

Thankful Because...
I'm in the holiday spirit-went to a friend's house for a pre Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner last night. Just got me to thinking-I love this time of year and have so many things I'm thankful for...so I'll start. 1.) While I do constantly worry about calories and exercise, I am thankful that we have food to put on the…

Vacation...
Strange how I'm looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. At home, the food and exercise is reliable and predictable. Granted, the resort we are going to has a gym and a pool... It's more the unlimited alcohol and food that has me worried. I know exactly how things went when we went to this resort last year…

clear liquids...and starving.
So...I have a surgery tomorrow morning and I am FAMISHED. I was allowed a very light breakfast and now nothing but clear liquids. I know I'll be under by a minimum of 700 calories today and that tomorrow I will be starving. I'm wondering to myself-is it ok to go over tomorrow, given that I'll have such a big deficit today?…

Question about Pho...
So last night I had a craving for Vietnamese food. I went and got myself shrimp rolls (not the fried kind...the ones with the bean sprouts) and the "healthy" white meat chicken only pho. I ate one of the rolls and half of the pho and saved the rest for tonight. I bought a small order of pho. The pho was white meat chicken,…

Hooters.
So, this is an honest question because I'm watching undercover boss as I dink around on my computer... Having never been to a hooters, why go to one? I know of lots of restaurants with fabulous wings/great food...and amazing beer selection. Is it really about the attractiveness of the wait staff? Is the service better? Are…

Anyone else a huge Blogilates fan?
Her workout kicked my *kitten* this week. She's cute and sassy and happy...but holy cow, her workouts are TOUGH! Anyone else a huge fan like me? I love LOVE Pilates...I hate weights and doing weight lifting at the gym, so Pilates is my strength training of choice-and so far I'm seeing a dramatic transformation in my…

How to make your hair grow faster?
Anybody have any information? Nutrition, hair products? I'm getting annoyed. Granted, I've made lots of progress from where my hair used to be to where it is now, but it has taken nearly 5 years. My thing is I want to get to my goal length before I decide whether or not to chop it off. I'm losing my patience and am tempted…

Why do you do it?
I was thinking about this during my workout this morning-what is motivating me in my effort to get into better shape? Is it more about health for you or about how you look? I think it's both for me. I'm hoping as I get in better shape my Type I diabetes will be better controlled...looking better in my clothes (and without…

A fair question about "eating clean"
For those of you that "eat clean" and also take a protein/whey supplement... How does that work? Isn't "eating clean" about eliminating processed foods? Isn't protein powder a processed food? I mean how do you get from a soy bean to something that looks like powder? Read the ingredients on most protein supplements... Here…

Cory Monteith Dead?
I'm in shock. I saw this yesterday and just about started crying. He was so young...such a bright career ahead of him. The last time I was this upset about a celebrity dying was when Heath Ledger passed away. I can't believe it...

Pilates?
Hey everyone I was just seeing who here does Pilates. I'm considering signing up for an actual class (I've been doing the Mari Winsor DVD and seen some good results). Just debating if it's worth the money for the class. I enjoy it very much and would love to take it to the next level-maybe add resistance bands or…

Mosquitoes from Hell
So... last night I was sitting out with our neighbors for the 4th of July. Mosquitoes are really bad out here, but that's not the point. I got a TON of bites around one of my ankles and now it's swelling...to the point that it's not moving the way it's supposed to (range of motion is terrible). What should I do? Should I…

Competitive Friends
So...I have this friend-have mentioned it before...she came over on Friday with her new puppy (German Shepherd). The dog was anti-social (granted, it was very young), but had zero interest in smelling my dogs, being around my dogs...or playing. It hid in the corner. Now I will say this up front to be fair, my dogs are…

Hate when my husband leaves town.
So my husband has business trips...and sometimes fun trips and leaves town a few times during the year. This time, I don't have/get enough time off, so he's going for 10 days to do a rafting trip with his family. I'm extremely sad about it as I always am when he leaves because when he's gone, it feels like we're back to…

Why aren't you sweating?
Am I the only person who sweats like a pig while working out....I mean dripping. It's nasty. I look around the gym and see many people who don't sweat at all. Are they just not working hard enough? Blessed with an anti sweat gene? I don't get it. My theory is that if you're not sweating your'e doing something wrong.
