I know now what I need . . .
I have been here for a while. I have made really, good, incremental progress. If not in terms of weight, definitely in terms of changing habits and building a good lifestyle for myself. I have some met some wonderful friends on here - stellar, beautiful, amazing people. I know I need to continue to build good habits:…

small but significant NSV
I work call. I am sometimes up at night, unexpectedly. Last night, I was up from 0350 to 0530. I had trouble sleeping after that. I got up @ 8 AM and went to my training session this morning, and lifted weights like a boss. It's a big deal for me. I used to cancel so I could sleep. I got up today.

5th Wedding Anniversary - gift ideas?
My husband and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary tomorrow night. We have a reservation at the fanciest hotel in town, and plan on enjoying ourselves (and each other) at the hotel, and enjoy the legendary brunch the next morning. My question is, what kind of gift should I give him, if any? Wikipedia tells me…

Process, it's not just for cheese.
"Sometimes we get so caught up in the end result that we forget that fitness is not just about weight loss or gaining muscle. It's not just about exactly what we eat or how many times a week we workout. We become focused solely on results rather than the change it takes to get those results! Make change your focus. Allow…

What are you eating/have you eaten for Thanksgiving?
I will be making sweet potato, bread stuffing, roast brussels sprouts, mashed rutabaga with carrot and apple, and turkey with gravy. I have made a version of pumpkin pie, swapping out the pumpkin for butternut squash and using evaporated milk instead of cream. My family usually eats Thanksgiving dinner on the Sunday of the…

Painful feet when running - any suggestions?
I am doing Couch to 5K, currently in week 2. I love the running and the sense of accomplishment. I'm not digging the foot pain. I have good Saucony runners, with insoles (I have highly pronating feet). I am trying to strike in the mid-foot. I am running on a treadmill. My feet cramp up something fierce afterwards. It feels…

Me and the dog, in it to win it!
We just adopted a dog. She is 7 years old, and pretty darn overweight. I am a bit younger in the human equivalent. We are going to lose this weight together. Here are the before pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8639084@N04/6812061688/

Conquered overwhelming emotions! Victory!
So, I have long since figured out that if I am not hungry, food is not the answer. I have often used food to cope with overwhelming anger, happiness, despair - you name it. Today, I brought food to a colleague who just had a mastectomy/reconstruction for breast cancer. She is my age, with 4 young children. I was brought to…

Menu generator! Inquiring minds wanted to know!
So I blithely posted about my "menu generator" yesterday, and everyone wanted to know all about it. So, instead of answering everyone personally, I thought I would post about it here. I use a website called soscuisine.com, a website providing free and paid menu plans. I am currently paying for a menu generator that…

Not eating to cope!
Okay, this is a huge NSV - my leg and my in-laws are killing me, and I have not eaten all the food in the kitchen. I am crawling in my skin with stress, but not eating to deal with it.

Shift workers, folks who do lots of call, MD's and Midwives
What do you to cope with sleep deprivation, call, stress? I have gained 20 lbs since beginning to practice as a midwife 5 years ago. I eat more when I am tired and stressed out, and that is kind of part of the job! Any suggestions for eating better, dealing with stress, doing it better? Thanks, much appreciated!

NSV - they noticed!
Okay, so I have been feeling great, tons of energy, and eagerly getting my butt to the gym almost every day, eating right, and not feeling deprived. However, today, at work, my co-workers noticed! They noticed! They say I am looking slimmer, and they have noticed my increased energy! Yay! :drinker:

Cardio NSV
About a month ago, I did this crazy, killer agility thing with my trainer. I almost threw up, the intensity was so challenging for me. Well, we did it again today, and not only did I manage just fine, I did it better than last time! My weight loss has been very slow, but having better strength and endurance is right on…

DID NOT want to go the gym! itty-bitty NSV
I was exhausted. Bone-tired! But . . . I went to the gym anyway! YAY!

A big deal for me . . . NSV!
I am such a foodie, and such a glutton, that I have problems not ordering whatever I want when eating out. I guess that is a part of me that never grew up, and that is part of what has gotten me into this mess. Anyhoo, went out today to a restaurant where I usually order fries, soda, and other such poor choices, and . . .…

Hello everyone! I have been doing MFP on my mobile device for some 5 months now, with little success. I am hoping that engaging with others on the same journey will help me make better strides. I look forward to meeting you and being mutually supportive!
