Dumbbells are Expensive!
I've checked the usual "discount" stores, craigslist, and Facebook marketplace. Any secret places to find reasonably prices 15 lb dumbbells, or am I stuck paying at least $40 for a set? Also, could I "season" rusty old dumbbells like I could a cast iron pan?

Durable! Reusable Shopping Bags
My most convenient grocery store switched over to paper bags without handles, and I've spent the last 15 years carrying groceries home by hand or on the bus. This is inconvenient. I could just buy their "reusable" bags, but they shred to pieces under any stress. They're definitely made for people who drive. Bad investment…

Curious: If paleolithic humans gathered the plants available...
Why do we assume they didn't gather easy-to-pick grains, like wheat? Seriously, they had 50,000ish years after migrating out of Africa to discover and use them, so why do we assume they stumbled on wheat at the onset of the agricultural revolution? Hopefully, there's a cultural anthropologist out there waiting to jump on…

Best FODMAP App?
My GI specialist suggested I try the FODMAP elimination diet. I've railed against the idea that there might be foods that I just can't tolerate, but I've been in pain for 15 years. And I'm a hyper-sensitive person, so ibs fits the bill. There's still more testing to be done to rule out other things, and changing how I…

Yoga and Catharsis (Emotional Fitness?)
I'm just looking for feedback from those who have experienced an intensely uncontrollable outpouring of emotion from their yoga practice. I've had a bad few years. I've dealt with abuse, homelessness, the loss of a parent, estrangement from friends on top of all the medical issues that have always been a part of being me.…

Happy Summer!
Congratulations to every one who reached their goals! As for the rest of us, add me as a friend. I've still got a ways to go. I have decided not to post weekly weigh ins anymore because only one person responded last week. If there is any interest to keep things going, raise a ruckus and I'll continue!

Weekly Weigh In: 6/7 to 6/13
This is our weekly weigh in for those of us still here. I had one bad day this week that bloated me up ten pounds from my lowest last week. Most of it is gone already, and i bought myself a food scale for my birthday this week. I'm going to have to return it, though, because it doesn't provide weight in grams. I also had…

last of May weigh day!
I decided to mix things up a bit with the power of rhyme. Why am I so chipper? Of course it's because I'm down half a pound! SW: 154 (feb) CW: 140.8 And I'm pretty sure my butt is looking better, too. I may have been up half the night with hip pain, but that's nothing compared to less cellulite on the beach. Do you guys…

Weekly Weigh In: 5/24 to 5/30
Sorry I spaced on our Saturday weigh in yesterday. We picnicked on Boston Common yesterday and went walking through the market. Caloric, but fun! Glad to see new and old faces back and posting. We're doing good to even be here! I'm not at home to weigh in today. I'm hoping to see the scale go down this week. I've been…

Will dizziness improve with fitness?
I have the okay from my doctor to exercise within reason (kidney transplant, hearing loss, parathyroid tumors, migraines), and i went to the gym for the second time ever yesterday. Dizzy on the elliptical, dizzy doing leg machines. I was fine walking on the treadmill. Has anyone improved this symptom with increased…

Weekly Weigh In: 5/17 to 5/23
We're dwindling down to nothing! I know a few of us have reached their goals (congratulations!), and I hope that the rest of us still find this weekly weigh in good for accountability. I'm not home right now, so I can't get an accurate reading, but I'm still here for you guys. I actually went to the gym this week! I did…

Weekly Weigh In: 5/10 to 5/16
Confession: I didn't feel like making this post today. I've been so tired lately, and i had an anxiety attack last night. Mostly, I still haven't lost weight. I'm due for a whoosh and time now, and my measurements are getting a little smaller, but I still feel stagnant. Holding fast at 141 ish. But i still think it's…
-
Weekly Weigh In: 5/3 to 5/6
The weeks feel like they're going by so much more quickly with the weather being nicer! I know I've been spending more time outside with the help of my trusty allergy medicines. No loss again for me this week, but I'm expecting a drop soon, since my waist keeps getting smaller. It measured at 25.5 inches this morning at…

Girl on Girl Hate
Yesterday, as I was waiting at the bus stop, some girls yelled out of their car that I was a prostitute. I was wearing a pair of shorts, a band tee shirt, and a hoodie with a pair of creepers. It's had me thinking about what possesses girls to be such wenches to each other. Did they think Regina George was the protagonist…

Weekly Weigh In: 4/26 to 5/2
There have been questions about keeping this group going past summer, and I'd be totally up for it. Summer will be here in the northern hemisphere in less than two months! This week, I maintained, but I've been having quick losses to until now. It still works out to more than my one pound a week goal. My stomach and waist…

Weekly Weigh In: 4/12 to 4/18
I did good this week! I was surprised. I was sure I wouldn't be down this much. SW: 154 Week 1 (with the new scale): 150 W2: 146.4 W3: 144.4 W4: 143.2 Ten pounds gone since that revealing doctor's appointment. I'm going to keep calorie cycling and doing what I'm doing until it stops working! How did you do?

Beta Blockers and Cardiovascular Fitness
To preface, I have a doctor's appointment next month. I'm looking for person experiences right now. I've been taking propranolol for migraines for the past year. I wrote enjoy not having the migraines, but i couldn't even do a steep one mile hike the other day without feeling like my chest would explode. Unacceptable for…

Stay Active!
Looks like we're slowing down on posting now that the weather is getting nicer. Let's keep active by reaffirming our summer goals and asking for advice and support. I know a few of us have had a bad couple of weeks with the home life, but the motivation is still there. I'd still like to feel slimmer and more energetic by…

Weekly Weigh In: 4/5 to 4/11
It's been a rough week, but I'm still here. SW: 154 Last week: 146.4 This week: 144.4 I know I shouldn't be losing this fast at my weight and height, but between the strep and my father, I've been anxious and without an appetite. Still, I'll take the success. How was your week?
-
Weekly Weigh In: 3/29 to 4/4
Sorry I missed out weigh in last week. I've been down and out with strep. I also got a new scale, so my numbers are up from the other scale I was using. Blah. Anyway... SW: 154 Last Week: 150 This Week: 146.4 Still trending down. Not surprising, since I can't swallow much yet! How was your week? ETA: I'm also keeping track…

Support During Life Crisis
I've been doing well enough here. I'm mostly proud of my tracking and doing what i can to not yoyo again. This week, however, my dad ended up in the hospital. He had a probable stroke and bleed into his brain. He has not been awake. I am hearing impaired, so my aunt is getting updates for me from the hospital. It's a lot…

Weigh In: 3/15-3/21
For our weigh in this week, since the group's creator seems to be gone for now. Everyone seems to be making great progress so far. How did this week go? I weighed in two days ago, so I'll update later.

Best Inexpensive Bathroom Scale
I finally have a little money to spend on equipment, and I've been using the old analog scale at my boyfriend's house. I'd like to treat myself to a new one. I have a measuring tape, but I'm also a kidney transplant patient, so it's important for me to track daily fluctuations. My price limit is about $25 (if you can still…

Weigh In: 3/8-3/14???
We seem to have lost our leader this week, so here's the thread for those of us still active. I'll try to remember to make another one on Saturday if she's still gone, even though I weighed today. SW: 154 W1: 145 W2: 142 W3: 140

Self Help for Sore Hips
I'm not an exerciser. I'm a mover. I prefer useful activities like walking to the store or working on choreography (it's useful if you're an actress!), but I sometimes exercise for the sake of it. Cue pain. My hip flares up on occasion, and this past week has been an occasion. I'm familiar with all the good piriformis…

When you can't lift more than 30lbs...
Doctor's orders. I have other people's organ's inside me and stuff, so it's not something I take lightly. So, I'm up late with an unhappy stomach, stuffed with guac, and I've been pondering how to increase weight/force when working the upper body. Lower body is easy. If I need to squat with more force, I jump. Once I can…
