Should I eat when I'm not hungry?
Hi, some days I am ravenously hungry, other days not at all. I try to keep within my daily calorie goal on days when I've got a hunger, but conversely do you think I should 'force' myself to eat up to my calorie goal on days when I'm NOT hungry?

Bit cheesy, but you CAN do it because I just did
Hey, yeah sorry - bit of a cheesy thread but I'm feeling the love right now and just wanted to share. I started this year feeling very down and overweight. Somehow I found the strength to feel it was time to make a change. A friend recommended this site to me and I began my journey. To date I've lost 38lbs. Well done me,…

Alcohol. eat after or stick to calorie goal?
I find myself in this position too often. I'll have a humble breakfast, go for a crazy jog and work out, then I'll get a call from a friend telling me about a great party they're going to and why don't I come? So I go. I'll drink my daily MFP calorie allowance and then return home starving. I fight the urge to eat in that…

loving looks I get, but nothing changed in my mind
I've lost nearly 30lbs since New Year and I feel so empowered by that - I feel healthier and stronger. But nothing has changed in my mind and life. Only my physical has changed. Don't get me wrong, I love the new looks I'm getting from girls that wouldn't have never looked at me twice before, but I'm still the same man I…

Lost 11lbs on 24hr booze bender! How can it be possible?
So I always weigh myself on a Friday, same time, same place. Yesterday I weighed 15 stone 13lbs. I went out on a massive bender with a friend and consumed a vineyard worth of red wine. No food. I woke up this morning feeling like a troupe of circus mice were juggling chainsaws in my skull. Weighed myself, scared that I…

Magnesium Citrate - same in UK as US? I'm confused.
Hi, bit of a specific question, but I've been reading online about Magnesium Citrate as a laxative in the US. I want to flush out my system and also lose some extra pounds in the short term only for a holiday I've got coming up - (yes, awful vain I know, so shoot me ;) BUT, I went into my local pharmacy and found a bottle…

Don't eat **** food & exercise. Wow, uncomfortable truths
This site is incredible - and I give props to my friend Lee for telling me about it. It's helped me loose nearly 28 pounds so far. So I'm starting to feel a bit cocky. How have I lost this weight? By cutting down on my calories, jogging and cycling. no secret skill. Just hard work and denying myself the things I used to…

Anyone else losing weight to feel 'accepted and normal'?
Hi, I'm just writing to vent, so sorry if this comes off as a bit of a rant, but I'm 40 this year and feel such pressure to 'succeed' by my peers and society-at-large standards. Pathetic huh? But nearly all my friends I grew up with now have a mortgage, great job, wife and kids, most of them seem real happy and content…

Generally what has more calories Pasta or Rice?
Hi, my meals without pasta, rice or potatoes just aren't filling me up. So having cut them out for the last few months I want to bring them back in, but using the MFP database the calorie values of average cooked pasta and rice varies SO wildly that I don't trust any of them. What in general has more calories cooked - 100g…

Bought dumbells, how often should I use them
Hi, After jogging for a month now, I've invested in a set of dumbells (up to 15kg). When I was a teenager (a long time ago) I used to do reps of bicep arm curls, and lying on my back on the floor ,opening out my arms out either side and bringing them up to the centre till weights clicked together, repeating (don't know…

How do you learn to be patient and not go crazy quick
I've lost around 19lbs since I started a month ago, I've done it by going from zero exercise and eating about 4000 calories a day, to running, cycling and eating around 1800. It's been fun to challenge myself and remind my body who is boss by flexing my willpower muscle, but now I'm starting to get bored with it. It's the…

Big favour: PLEASE work out my daily calorie allowance
I know it's a big ask, but I've been dieting now for 4 weeks and so many people (and websites especially) have been giving me totally conflicting advice on what my TDEE and goal calorie intake should be. I'm talking a vast range from 1800 up to 3000! My age is 39 My height is 6ft 2inches (74 inches) My current weight is 16…

Bottle of 13% Red Wine - what's the calorie truth?
Hi, I've looked on the MFP food database and a bottle of red wine seems to range from 500- 690. But I've gone on the NHS website and the DrinkAware website and they say more like 960 for a bottle. Does anyone know the definitive truth of how many calories are in a 750ml bottle of 13% red wine. Thanks. I really need to know…

Fact or Myth? Big meals in evening bad?
Hi, does anyone know the truth about whether it's bad to have a big meal in the evening as we can't burn it off due to sleeping? At the moment I have a reasonable breakfast (poached eggs or Bran Flakes), very small lunch, then use up the rest of my calorie allowance on a filling evening meal. But it makes sense to me that…

5lbs! What's the most you've fluctuated in one day?
I weighed myself yesterday morning at 10am - I'd gained and scales said 16st 11lb. I've weighed myself just now, same time, same boxer shorts, same scales, and they read 16st 6lb! How can I lose 5lb in 24hrs?! And what is my REAL weight? How much have you ever fluctuated in one day?

What's a lo-cal way to stir fry?
Hi, I like stir-fries but can't believe how many calories are in just a glug of olive oil / sunflower oil / vegetable oil. Does anyone have an alternative that I can use, apart from water. Thanks.

Anyone else suffering from weekend guilt?! ;)
I've been dieting for exactly a month now and by each Friday I feel lean and mean, then I give myself Saturday off to take a drink and treat myself to fatty meats and fresh white crusty bread. I love it at the time feeling I've earned it. But then on Sunday I wake with a hangover and feel like crap, needing to carbo-load…

Feeling positive, happy to help anyone who needs support
I only started in January, so it's not like I'm suddenly the Yoda of weight-loss, but I've lost 16 pounds so far and feel already so great and fresh with the healthy eating and jogging each day. I just wanted to reach out and say I'd be glad to be your friend and try to keep you motivated if you need. (and hopefully you'll…

How can I make sure my body is burning fat not muscle mass
Hi, did anyone see the BBC doc 'Fat vs Sugar' last night on TV? It was fascinating, but it left me with a few unanswered questions. Namely, if I'm eating at a calorie deficit to lose weight, how can I ensure my body is using the lack of calories to burn my fat reserves and not my lean muscle mass? Are there special foods…

Who are we losing weight for... Really?
3 weeks now. 3 weeks I've been weighing **** out and calorie counting. I've been jogging every day too. I feel great. I've lost nearly a stone. But I'm thinking who am I really losing the weight for? Of course we all say 'it's for me' - but aren't we all doing it really so we feel sexy and acceptable? Acceptable to…

I'm still confused about BMR & Calories. Help please
Someone on here recommended me the http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/ to calculate my BMR. It says for my age, height, weight and lifestyle I should be eating 2347 Calories a day to reach my Goal weight. I'm currently naturally eating around 1500 a day and also gaining about 600 calories according to MFP due to…

Ankles buckling when jogging, help!
Hi y'all. I've started jogging 5 days a week - about an hour mixed with fast walking (so in reality about 25mins jogging / 35 walking). But although my body is up for it and I don't even get a stitch, my ankles start to burn under the weight of my 16+ stone smashing into park concrete. It's frustrating because my legs,…

Can I use exercise calories for a previous day's count?
I allow myself Sunday's off to eat things I know are bad for me but delicious! I can't face the rest of my life never eating things I enjoy, it's too long a road stretching out and makes me feel I want to give up. So my question is, if I do loads of extra exercise every Monday (which I've done for the last three weeks) can…

Is MFP daily calorie intake REALLY correct?
Hi, I've been following the daily calorie intake of 2300 for 9 days now, and with taking moderate exercise (30mins) and not leaving myself feeling hungry at all I am consistently about 900 calories UNDER what it allows. Surely this means it's wrong? But MFP is professional and I am just a bloke who knows nothing about…

Can I eat anything to reach my daily 1000 cals?
Sorry if this sounds naive, but I've only just started calorie counting and don't really understand it. I'm trying to keep it to 1000 cals a day. I've written down the calorie content of all my favourite low-fat foods but I love meat, which is high calorie typically compared to veg. Firstly if I take a vitamin tablet to…

Can anyone recommend a healthy low calorie home-made sauce?
Hi, I've just joined and started calorie counting, Day 6 and I've become quite addicted to looking at the labels in the shop and working it all out to hit my daily thousand calorie allowance ;) I've been eating a lot of fish fillets with broccoli, cauliflower. A lot of vegetables in chopped tomatoes and garlic, etc. But…
