The meat is for the cat?
I just watched a show trying to explain how meat is responsible for weight epidemics amongst homo sapiens? They tried to present a compelling argument? Attempting to demonstrate that it was a function of feline anatomy? Pointing towards their teeth & various acids in their digestive systems? The kitten argument was…

Two weeks and gained weight!
After a winter of pure gluttony I decided it was time to get on track. I have been in a deficit and working out daily for two weeks. I have gained 2 pounds! Clearly the whole calorie in / calorie out model doesn't work for me. Seriously demotivating.

35 oz steak for dinner (potatoes & pint of ice cream too)
Tonight, inspired by the "steak lady", I ordered the biggest steak I could get near by. A 35 oz top sirloin. I received a tee shirt for finishing it alone. I'm certain I could have done a second one ( fairly certain). Started with a large dinner salad, then the steak & a couple hundred grams of pan fried potatoes. Followed…

6,000+ calories a day
Results from a 5 day cruise (11/27-12/1) For 5 days I averaged 6,000 calories a day and this is more than likely underestimating (I logged as best as I could). The morning after I returned I weighed in, +8.5 lbs compared to my weight the morning of boarding. Over the next 6 days I ate 3,000 calories a day, which is a small…

Misconceptions of Organic food(s)
This will probably be TL;DR for most, but here it is anyways. It is the opinion of many Americans that organic food is healthier and safer than conventional foods; an opinion that the organic food industry strives to cultivate. However, as former Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman pointed out, "The organic label is a…

1800 calories in candy/ice cream - Why not?
My diary is open and I'm open to reasonable information and arguments. Can someone explain to me why I shouldn't have eaten the candy & ice cream I ate last night? I was within my calorie goal (3300), my macros were good (not quite spot on), & hit all micro needs through the function of the rest of my diet. Why, again,…

Scapegoat of this decade: Sugar.
Sugar is the villain of this decade, the scapegoat of choice it seems. In decades past it was carbs in general, fat, salt, cholesterol... Now it is clearly sugar. It's not just here, but in media outlets of all types. We're constantly bombarded with opinions and views, but little (if any) actual proof. We'll stick to here…

Stop hating on ice cream.
Just because you can't fit it into your fad diet or calories, don't hate. It's fantastic. It's in integral part of my DAILY diet. I'd love to hear why it shouldn't be. (Oh, I don't eat just a little. I eat an entire pint a day, sometimes I'll go for 16 oz of Frozen Yogurt instead though.) -M

No such thing as "Fattening" food or inherently bad food
Here is a link and short snip from a very good article, with links. If you have the time there are links to actual scientific studies that support the claims made. Long story short, you can eat what you want and still hit your goals. There’s no need to demonize any food or food group.…

Eating pizza, pop tarts, & ice cream while losing weight
Doable & delicious. That's, part of, what I had for dinner last night. I was completely within my caloric goals for 1+ lbs a week of loss. Also hit my macro and micro needs, quite well. It can be done. Don't let people demonize food you love and enjoy. You can work them all in both calorically and nutritionally. For the…

Pop tarts...and cats
Everyone knows I love Pop tarts and eat them (almost) daily. My cat has recently taken after my habit. I'm not sure if I should discourage such behavior or not? I don't want to be hypocritical, but I don't know if there's a possible issue with this? Do cats metabolize differently?

1200 calories too much for my Jabba (the Cat)
