DANCE YOUR BOOTIE OFF
Hi guys, just coming off a great weekend west coast swing convention and reading some posts about people who can't find a workout that they enjoy, so I thought I'd put a plug out there for social dancing as a fun form of exercise (without even realizing you're exercising) and of course SOCIALIZING. Check meetup in your…

is peanut butter causing my skin to break out?
I normally have very clear skin, except if I consume dairy. I have been noticing for the last several months that my skin is broken out pretty much constantly; it's not very visible; more like rough sandpapery-feeling on the cheeks. At first I thought I must have eaten a bit too much dairy. Then I thought maybe it was a…

Deadlifts less than 95#
Hi, You do have to start out deadlifting less than 95#, right? My gym does not have all plates at 17", so I'm currently deadlifting 75# using small 10 and 5# plates. (just finished 5th workout using NROL4W). So, how do you deadlift using plates smaller than 17"? Do you stack 1 or 2 plates flat on the floor on each side and…

GF peanut butter - coconut cookies
Gluten free yum: No nutrition data, but hey, it's Valentine's day. Who cares? They are delicious: for GF cookies, first make a GF all-purpose flour blend (you can store it in the freezer and just substitute 1:1 in any recipe calling for flour. I really prefer the recipe below to most of the store-bought GF flour blends. I…

28 reasons you're making it hard to reach your goal
It's amazing how otherwise rational people will talk themselves out of their own goals. Feel free to add more excuses. I don't want to lose too much weight bc then: 1. I will lose my curves. 2. My skin will be saggy 3. My SO won't be attracted to me 4. My SO will be threatened by the attention I'll get from others 5. My…

Excellent T-shirts
Saw this one at the gym today: "Ask your doctor if getting off your *kitten* is right for you". My son received this one from my parents for Christmas: "Let's eat Grandma. Let's eat, Grandma. Punctuation saves lives." Ordered a few months ago from LBEB: "If deadlifts were easy, they'd be called "Ellipticals", and "Do these…

Bodybugg: not for "non-standard" activities
Thought I would post this as an FYI: I bought a bodybugg instead of an HRM bc it measures burn all day long, and I thought that would be cool. HOWEVER, what they don't tell you is it really only measures forward-moving stepping activities accurately (oh, and housekeeping?? according to the CSR). Ha, I don't do any of that,…

Counterintuitivity: too much exercise ?
Counterintuitivity (is that a word?): Can you exercise too much? Does it make you gain weight? Here's a long story, to go with the question, and an idea, if you're interested: I've been working out nearly every day for 9 years. My weight has mostly been stable for my entire adult life except for an 18-month period where I…

PROPER SQUAT TECHNIQUE video from the stronglifts guy
Hi ladies, I just saw this last week and realized I had not been squatting low enough. Maybe you already know this, but I didn't, so I thought I'd share. This video came from Medhi at stronglifts.com. I found it very helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnV7vEi7Sz8&feature=youtu.be blessings.

Roseanne Barr can save us all
I just opened my vote-by-mail ballot to discover that Roseanne Barr is the Presidential Nominee for the Peace and Freedom Party. I am both surprised and delighted (half-true). This changes everything (not at all true).

Pumpkin Spice Lattes - with sbux syrup at home
My jug of Pumpkin spice syrup that I got from an awesome barista last season is almost gone. I was getting a little stressed until I saw that WSJ article this morning: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444223104578036560736681482.html Used to be baristas who stole the syrup would sell it on ebay, so I thought…

Fingerprinting at Disney and Sea World
Disney and Sea World have begun telling season pass-holders that the park "needs" an electronic scan of their thumbprints. If a pass holder refuses at Sea World, they can still use their pass with photo ID. I'm not sure what Disney does upon refusal. What do you think of this?

2 delicious spinach salads that YOU will like!
I am loving both of these main-course worthy salads. Making this one again tonight: 1. Grilled chicken (I substitute skinless rotisserie bc it's easier), portabella, corn and spinach salad with smoky paprika dressing! Bonus: it's already in the MFP database! NOTE: this does not take 2 hours to make if you just use…

Songs that refer to weight or size
Just heard one of the best ever songs on the radio that hasn't been on in years: Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, by Billy Joel (if you don't know this song, listen here -- it's 3 awesome songs in one, telling a story everyone knows). I promise it will be the best 10 minutes you spend this evening:…

my hairy kid
RANT: Well . . . here's a nice one. I have an adopted daughter from Armenia. She's 4 years old and very hairy. She has absolutely FABULOUS waist-length hair, very unusual for her age, but that comes with very thick brows (unibrow, yes), and has much more body hair than I do (of course I'm of Irish-Scottish descent, so…

Primal macro percentages
Hello all, I've started trying Primal this past week, in that I am going for 50-100 carbs a day--I started easing down the first couple days and have met that goal for the past 5 days (well, ok, I got 105 yesterday, but it's because I had a mandatory meeting that served burritos at dinner time, ugh). I am curious how your…

heavy lifters who also do endurance cardio
Hi there, In March I added heavy lifting into my workout schedule. I'm doing SL 5x5, and have a question for any of you lifters who also do endurance events. Triathletes, runners, cyclists . . . I'm planning on doing a 77-mile ride at the end of September. (San Luis Obispo Lighthouse Century - metric). I did the 98-mile…

century and heavy weight lifting
Hi there, In March I added heavy lifting into my workout schedule. I'm doing SL 5x5, and have a question for any of you who lift heavy in addition to cycling. I'm doing the San Luis Obispo Lighthouse Century at the end of Sept. - just the 77 mile option. I did the full century last year (with 3500 ft. of climibing), BUT I…

eating the same, weight and measurements increasing, ugh.
Hi all, I am 5'4, 44 yrs old, 133 lbs. TDEE 2271, BMR 1317. I lost 15 lbs. in 6 mos by eating more, maintained for 3 mos, and have started gaining pounds and inches the past 3 mos -- (I did add in heavy lifiing). All while eating the same cals as when I lost. I started on MFP at 142, dropped to 128 in about 6 mos. by…

heavy lifting measurements going the wrong way
Hi all, I've been on here almost a year and have found success through eating above my BMR to lose weight, without changing my already active lifestyle. I am 5'4, 44 yrs old, 133 lbs. TDEE 2271, BMR 1317. I lost 15 lbs. in 6 mos by increasing my calories over BMR, maintained for 3 mos. 3 months ago I started heavy lifting…
