Hi there,

In March I added heavy lifting into my workout schedule. I'm doing SL 5x5, and have a question for you.

I'm planning on doing a 77-mile ride at the end of September. (San Luis Obispo Lighthouse Century - metric).

I did the 98-mile version of this same ride last year (with 3500 ft. of climibing), BUT I did not lift heavy then.

Do you think it is necessary to temporarily stop lifting or else deload for some period of time before the ride?

How long before? What percentage deload?

Many thanks for your advice.

blessings.

My husband is training for a 100 mile mountain bike ride. He isn't lifting at all right now. He has a training book that says not too.

I've just back down on my progression (I don't increase weights often, can't really anyway) on things in order to not be too dead to ride, but I don't ride long distances.

When is his ride, and when did he stop lifting?

Truthfully he hasn't lifted regularly in years. Since about when we met. Go figure. His big race is in August, but he's been doing smaller races (100Ks) since March. He's been training since probably about August last year. The book said he could have lifted through the winter but he didn't.

There's a biking group that might provide more answers.
