Looking for Mom friends!
Hi, I'm not new to MyFitnessPal but sadly I've come and gone through the years and for the past few years I've mostly been "GONE." I was pregnant 4 times in 2 years. After 2 pregnancy losses I finally have 2 amazing little boys: a 2 year old and a 2 month old. I kept getting bigger with each pregnancy and now I'm obese but…

Out of shape and wondering about the best plan to fix this?
Hi, I am an old member of MFP but recently back and trying to re-focus on my health. I had 3 pregnancies in 3 years, 2 of which went to full-term. I lost a baby and then less than a year later had my son. I was really depressed and ate way too much and drank too much too. Now my son is a year old and I feel better mentally…

Trying to eat clean/healthy
Hi, I've been here before, and now I weigh more than I did last time I was here. I am trying to make changes to adopt a healthy and happy lifestyle all over, not just with my weight, but, that's a part of it. I'm usually a really extreme all or nothing person and now I'm really trying to find a nice balance. This is really…

Eating exercise calories when training a lot
OK, I know the adage is to eat exercise calories... and doing that has really helped my weight loss and overall fitness. I aim for 1200-1300 *net* calories a day, based on MFP recommendations. But on days when I have hard or long training runs (I'm training for a half marathon), I don't know how beneficial, let alone…

Embarrassing/maybe TMI question -- lactose/ gluten intoleran
My sister was visiting me for an extended Easter break, and she was going on a low-carb diet and wanted me to do it with her for support. I did... to me this was just another way of "eating healthy," as in, mostly chicken, fish, lean meat, veggies, nuts, but then I've also been eating more cheese and eggs than I normally…

Pity party
I am bummed today because my scale went up - about half a pound - instead of down. I have been eating clean and working out consistently. I do have occasional small "cheats" of non-clean food but I stay within my net calorie limit. If anything I may be eating too few calories although I try to fit them all in.…

Opposite of "plus sized model" -- Miss Universe
I was writing in the Clean Eaters thread about the Miss Universe pageant and then I saw the thread about the "plus-sized" model and to me they are related. Last night I was at the gym running my long run (I like to run it on the treadmill and watch TV ) and watching the Miss Universe pageant. Of course all of those women…

Alcohol Hiatus- Officially Doing It
Those of you who commented on my "Hiatus from Alcohol?" post know that I have been wondering whether it would be beneficial for me to take a break from drinking any alcohol. Thanks for all your helpful advice; I've decided that yes, I should do this, for a bunch of reasons. 1. My original reason was that I've noticed it's…

From sugar addict to clean/healthy eater - anyone else?
I have been eating clean and making sure to stay consistent at 1200 - 1300 *net* calories. In the past I either tried to eat clean/ diet but didn't eat my exercise calories, or I would go the other way and not eat clean and take in way too many calories per day. I was pretty extreme and was either super good ("too" good,…

"Good" fats
If I am trying to reduce my body fat percentage, should I avoid even "good" fats like in nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado, natural peanut butter? I have been eating clean for awhile and these are pretty much the only fats I eat, in fact I've been eating more than I used to of nuts because I have read they are so good for…

*Not* counting calories?....
So I have been browsing Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet book, which includes the principals I've been generally following in terms of eating small meals consisting of only healthy, natural foods ever 2-3 hours, drinking a lot of water, avoiding processed foods and sugars and bad carbs, etc. Well, she says not to count calories…

Hiatus from alcohol
I was just thinking, if I'm not sure whether I should quit drinking alcohol all together, or just watch my intake and make sure it's in moderation (see my other thread titled "alcohol"), maybe I should just try not drinking anything at all for like a month, and see if this helps me, both fitness-wide and mood-wise etc. Has…

Alcohol
Has keeping track of your calorie intake and trying to eat more healthy shown anyone else that they drink too much alcohol? I have come to that conclusion and am trying hard to cut back. It is pretty hard though. Even though I have no problem not drinking at home, I have a hard time when it's a social event or when I'm…

Trying to consistently stay at 1200 net calories but *gainin
Hi everyone. My weight loss has been inconsistent - I lose and then gain, and then do it over again, all around the mulberry bush... *sigh* I just realized it might be because I don't always eat enough net calories and/or because my net calories vary inconsistently. MFP tells me to have 1200 net calories, but most days I…

New study links moderate alcohol consumption to cancer in wo
I don't know if you all have already seen this... a report about it was on the news when I was at the gym the other day, and then I saw a headline for it online. So I thought I would share it even though I personally find it a little depressing. I thought this is useful information for women to know though and I am…

Low sodium salad dressing
Anyone have any recommendations for what to use on my salad that will help me control my sodium intake? I've realized that's a way sodium creeps in to my diet... I think I'm eating something healthy -- salad with low fat or nonfat dressing -- and then I realize, sodium!!! So what do you use? I'd like some ideas!

List of portable, convenient natural foods.
Okay I am going to make a list of foods I can bring with me to work etc. that are convenient but also clean/whole/natural/healthy... so that I don't have break down and eat something crappy for me just because I don't have time or better options on hand. I would appreciate anyone adding on to this list to help me out and…

How do I determine my activity level?
In the goals section I initially selected "sedentary" as my activity level because I sit at a desk most of the day, most days, for work. However, I also work out almost every day, anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half. Some days it is more -- skiing or running for hours -- but most days I get in a good, hard…

oh my goodness... high fructose corn syrup...
So I've started to try to eat as healthy and natural as possible. Lo and behold, last night I was listening to the radio station on the way to the grocery store and, perfect timing, the guest speaker was this guy called Chef MD who wrote a book about "culinary medicine". I guess he has a show called What's Cooking on…

Following a "natural"/ non-processed diet
Hi everyone. Lately I've been discouraged because I haven't been eating well nor losing weight despite exercising consistently and quite a lot. I've decided I'm going to just eat as natural and healthy as possible. I'm not even going to worry about it so much as to lose weight but to make healthy choices that will keep me…

Help with eating better while exercising consistently
I've been really good about working out... I've been doing Jillian Michaels' Making the Cut workout. I also have been running and working on getting my 5K time faster. I feel like I've gotten the exercise thing down; it's now a way of life and I couldn't imagine going for long without working out. However, I haven't been…

5K tomorrow... and fitness progress!
I am running a 5K tomorrow, I am really excited! It's funny how excited I am, because I've run in much longer races, like marathons and half marathons. But I always plodded along and now I've been working on my speed and on eating better and I just feel like I have increased my fitness level so much. This will be…

Difference in calories on treadmill and MFP?
So I just ran 5 miles in 48:54 at the gym on the treadmill. The treadmill told me I burned 600 calories (including a one-minute cool-down walk). I put 50 minutes of running at 10 minute pace in MFP, and it says 500. I don't understand the discrepency. The treadmill didn't ask me for my weight or anything, so it must be…

The best board ever :)
I'm not really sure what category this goes in, but I just wanted to thank all of you for being such an awesome message board. I have tried posting at other message boards in the past -- be they at other fitness/ running sites, or the fitness-related sections of wedding planning or lifestyle sites, etc. -- and it always…

Runners -- from mediocre to competitive?
Has anyone here gone from being a mediocre or "hobby" type runner to a faster, more competitive runner, like in road races? I've enjoyed running as a hobby for many years, and have run marathons, half marathons and other races. But I feel like I haven't given it a real effort to see how fast I could really get. I always…

Consistent or yo-yoing?
Well, I fell off the wagon. :( The last time I was on MFP was at the end of September. It gave me a plan to lose .9 lbs a week. (I want to lose 13lb total.) I thought that was soooooo slow. But, still, it was working. But then I stopped being dedicated. I am still at about where I was when I stopped -- with about 1.5lb…

6 down!!! My birthday present to myself
Hello fellow myfitnesspalers. I just had to share the good news. Today I stepped on the scale and it said 133! I started out this journey a couple months ago at 139... I'm not even 5'2" and small boned, so that was quite a lot for me and I thought, time to do something about it. I went on a crash diet, as usual, and lost…

How to eat all my calories when I work out a lot?
I've been working out a lot lately... training for a half marathon, which involves long runs and pace runs and speed interval or hill runs etc... and I've also been trying to work on my strength and toning by doing Jillian Michael's Making the Cut workout and some yoga and some general ab exercises. Some days I burn 1,000…

Adjusting calories for previous day
Is it okay if I went over on calories for a couple days to go *under* on calories for a couple days to make up the difference? I was reading this book "The Secrets of Skinny Chics" and some of the women profiled in there would aim for weekly calories instead of daily calories. So if they knew they had a vacation coming up,…
