Help with eating better while exercising consistently

I've been really good about working out... I've been doing Jillian Michaels' Making the Cut workout. I also have been running and working on getting my 5K time faster. I feel like I've gotten the exercise thing down; it's now a way of life and I couldn't imagine going for long without working out.
However, I haven't been great about my diet. I always accidentally go over my calories. I am *always* hungry and they seem to add up so fast! Because of that, I haven't lost much weight. I seem to re-lose and re-gain the same few pounds, depending on what I eat.
I've noticed that I can only lose weight if I am super diligent about calories and I make sure not to go over. That means only eating 1200 calories on the days I don't work out, and eating the calories I burn on the days I do work out, but not going overboard and thinking "oh, I can eat this burrito because I ran 4 miles today."
Is anyone else like this? I have friends that can easily lose weight just by exercising alone. For me, I either *gain* muscle/ pounds or it doesn't matter how much I work out, just what I eat. I want to be one of those people who is happy just eating light foods like salads, lean meats, sandwiches and the like. But I tend to eat too much too often and sabotage my weight loss. Who has tips for getting better at this? I would really like to concentrate on my diet now that I've gotten the exercise part down consistently. I should mention that I am really busy and I get frustrated when I haven't had time to buy veggies, fruits, lean meats, etc., and it is much easier to just eat whatever free food is offered to me at work, or whatever my friends want to eat when we go out. Then I feel like a failure.

Up your fibre it will make you feel fuller for longer I allways exercise in the morning so I set my alarm have a 100- 200 cals wake up with maybe an apple and a blob of peanut butter or a slice of brown breadetc I clean then about 45 mins later I do 30 day shred then I get my kids up and we have breakfast now I have a huge serving 45g or porridge oats and skim milk its about 285 and then I take my kids to school and walk the dog a brisk 1 hour then I workout 36 min of jump rope elliptical and running up and down my stairs in 2 mins intervals continous no resting with all that done I pick my daughter up from pre school then we have lunch wholegrain nutty bread 1 slice (its homemade and I cant slice thin) its about 250 cals with a bit of protein low fat cream cheese or a chicken breast or tuna that keeps me full till dinner with maybe a snack mid afternoon of usually a glass of chilled fat free milk.
For me this works I think you can buy fibre supplements too but fibre makes you feel full also anaylise what you are eating and where they fall on the glycemic load index and stick with ones that are low they take longer for the body to turn to sugar so keep you sustained longer.
Good luck0 -

welcome to my world...this losing weight is not easy and yes, you have to be super diligent...once you get into the routine and start seeing results you wont mind so much0 -
Tazzy... thanks for all the great advice. Your routine sounds AWESOME but I just don't have that much time... I will have to try to plan ahead to have these healthy treats all day long. I will make it a priority.
Dave, I guess it's a simple concept when you put it that way... I have to be diligent to lose weight. I can't eat whatever I want and expect to lose weight, even if I *am* working out a lot.
((sigh)) This is hard! LOL0 -
Hi it is a tough I want to add more but am doing it slowly but 3 months ago I felt I would die at 20 mins the 2 min thing is great because you dont get bored and now I am eating right it is a grt8 workout I also have a lovely shower gel reserved just for post workout it is from lush and its only available at Xmas I bought enough to last the year it makes getting sweaty worthwhile. I only do this because I am desparate and want my body back and this time nothing will make me gain the weight back so I hope this works.0

Water... :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
You might be drinking "enough" according to the recommended allotment, but water can help deal with that "I'm so hungry" feeling for -0- cals, and it is insatiably good for you. Try squeezing a tinge of lemon or lime into your water bottle during the afternoons (or when you are most tempted by the "I need to eat" feeling) and you might just be surprised at how well it carries you through.
cheers!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
Good point pixie. Right now I'm lucky to be able to get in the 8 glasses a day. So I will increase that! It's easy and free... I like it.0
