Week 2 of Lifting
And as we were getting dressed this morning, my husband said "Hey! You've got muscles in your arms, I can SEE them!". So, it must be doing something. I have some actual definition in my upper arms/shoulder area. I'm still enormously fat, mind you, but I have some muscle now too.

Thought I knew what I was doing, but confused myself!
So I started doing a reset about 2 weeks ago. I figured my TDEE to be 2230 based on my activity level at the time. I was on my last week of Insanity (super cardio). Anyways, I finished that, took a break last week and started NROL4W today. So, my activity level has changed, right? I refigured my TDEE to be 1960 or so doing…

New Member!
Hi! New member here. I've lost 93 pounds in the past 19 or so months. I'm within 5 pounds of my dream weight (115), but I know it's not all about the scale. I am much more muscular than I've ever been, and my stamina is through the roof - but I've still got some fat on me! I've been eating about 1200 - 1300 calories a day…

More Calories to Build Muscle???
I saw a post that I now cannot find. I was wondering though... To build muscle you need more calories? Like if I'm weight training and I'm not eating enough then I'm gaining muscle but not loosing fat? I was confused about this. How do you hit the right balance of gaining muscle and losing weight? Thanks

Correcting a lifting misbalance?
When I'm lifting using dumbells, on my last set I often hit failure a rep or two sooner on my left arm than my right. I was hoping someone could help suggest how to correct the imbalance. Do I need to work the left more often? Extra set with the left arm? Any advice would be appreciated.

Question about dropped sizes
I am getting started and I hear so many people not loosing and even gaining. What keeps me interested is that dispite this they are still loving the calorie changes. Are any of you dropping pants sizes. I want to dive in but I'm afraid of doing this and being the same size in 6 months.

Need advice re weights...
Hi Everyone, Currently, I am walking, doing cardio kickboxing, using 5 lb hand weights, and a 25 lb kettlebell (alternating, so I don't get bored). Raising calories to between 1500-1800 was one of the best things I have done, and even though the scale is moving verrrrry slowly, I am seeing good results. Now, I want to take…

GAHH need help with BMR/TDEE!
Hi everyone! I am new to EM2WL, and I wanted to get some input about my BMR/TDEE. A little info about me...I am a 27 yo female, 5"4", 157 lbs., and my main goal is to maintain/build some muscle while losing fat. I recently started getting in shape, hired a personal trainer, and am working out about 4-5 days a week…

NOT WORKING!! Calories, science, and standard deviation
I see 2 kinds of people in this forum. 1: people that EM2WL works for. These people say “it works if you do it! Be patient!” 2: People who have done everything right, but have NOT have success on EM2WL. They are depressed and cranky and want to believe, but they are just gaining more and more weight as months go by. I…

Thread for those who have gained 15+ pounds in the reset
Yep, that's me. The scale told me 17.2 this morning, which on a smaller frame like mine doesn't exactly look too great. Nevertheless, I KNOW I can push through 3 or 4 more weeks if it means a lifetime of actually liking what I see in the mirror in the long run. I'm not sure what the point of this is thread is, except maybe…

Muscle Question
OK so if you can't build muscle on a cut then why is a big deal to lift heavy. How is it you can drop fat doing it without building the muscle. I'm a bit confused on the concept. :noway:

Reset?
Is a Reset always going to be necessary? How will I know if I need one? I went from low cal to TDEE-20%. I have been losing 1-2 pounds per week. Instantly started losing after being stalled for 3 weeks. Is a reset something that needs to be done in the future? If I stall again?

Progress is slow and steady, but it is progress!
Hi there Thought I would jump in to let you know my personal experience of upping cals so far as I know from some posts on here that it is a tough ride! My history of the eating and exercise thing is a whole other book and goes back 30 years so I will just deal with the time I came to MFP around the end of May. I started…

still confused...BMR vs. cut vaues
hiya, I am still confused about how much to eat. I understand I need to always eat above my BMR and that I should be eating as near to my cut value as I can every day. BUT, what I get confused about is on days I exercise and I have to look at the NET value of calories. If my net is above my BMR (for me that's 1655 cals),…

12 weeks at TDEE..I think thats more than enough! :P
I started eating at TDEE from June. I was meant to do an 8 week 'Reset'..but I've been putting off making the cut for the last 4 weeks..totaling in a 12 week Reset! I've just gotten so used to eating more that I don't feel like eating less! :P And at my height and activity level, making the cut is almost like going back to…

Needs some assurance please
I was hoping someone more experienced could check my numbers for me. I'm not confident I am doing it right. My height is 61 inches....or 5'1". My weight is 161 lbs. I'm only lightly active right now. I have a 10 week old baby and am taking things slow. I'm not doing any weight lifting right now but I surely intend to. Is…

FITBIT and EM2WL
so confused... my regular goal is 1700, I ate 1988. Fitbit tells me that I burned an excess of 554 calories today for a net of 1434. do I eat the 266 remaining calories which would bring what I ate up to 2254 with a net of 1700?? My fitbit dashboard says I burned a total of 2220 today... or leave well enough alone?

500 calories and tons of bad advice...
Ive been thinking to myself all day if i had a story or something encouraging to share. Simply because I have not reached my goals just yet and I am still a HUGE work in progress. But when I think about where Ive come from and how far Ive come the answer would be YES I do have a story. Not that I haven't always struggled…

Well….EMTWL is working for me. (Picture heavy)
I am sure you have seen it, people that say eating more to weigh less is bullpoopoo, since eating more is what made them fat in the first place, and swear that 1200 calories or less has no negative impact and it work for them…..end of story. I am not here to tell anyone how to lose weight and get healthy…..I can only tell…

Finally!
12 weeks and 10 pounds later I am finally starting the 15% cut on Monday. I traveled to Greece for a month and had my husbands grandmother feeding me around the clock (maybe she knows about all this Eat More to Weigh Less Business) and I gained an additional 2 pounds. Hopefully this will work out for me. I will keep you…

Getting Started Assistance
I have been on MFP for about 3.5 months now and have lost about 40 pounds. When I signed up, I used the MFP calculator and set a goal to lose a pound per week., which at the time game me a calorie goal of 1800. Now, that same formula gives me a calorie goal of 1650. For most of the past three months, I have been eating…

Just needing a little positive
I've seen several of us who are having such a hard time. We've done the reset, we've followed the "rules" and we're fatter than before! I know it's a long, hard journey. I know I've posted more (eek, WAY more) than my share of grumbles and whines and cries ... but I feel that today I need to step back and look at the…

Should I reset?
I am 39 years old, 5 ft 5 and currently 166. I am down from 178 when I started my new 'lifestyle' at the beginning of July. I lost weight pretty steadily (from 178 to 170) for most of July, and at the beginning of August I stalled. I joined MFP at that point, and began eating the 1200 calories it told me to for most of…

When will my middle catchup???
So just started EM2WL a few weeks ago, how liberating to eat again. Never saw any real change in the scale at low cals anyway. Been lifting since January. Went to a trainer and she gave me a 3 day lifting routine with 2 body groups a day with a day rest. Saw small results right away...3 months later, started Stronglifts…

The bad and the ugly side of the journey
Ok here is my story…. I have never been severely overweight, I went through a tough time in 1996 and I got to be about 20 pounds overweight. Once life was back on track, I was back to having a healthy lifestyle, eating right and living strong. I have always been the active one in the group, always worked out and ate…

Hi!
So i'm really scared that EM2WL won't work for me. i'm about 2 1/2 weeks in and im scared to step on the scale. Before i discovered EM2WL, I went from eating 1800 calories and netting somewhere in the 1200 range, and for a period of time i just gave up and said "screw this i'll try 2200 calories a day" for weight loss…

TDEE Logging Confusion
Forgive me if these questions are answered somewhere in the group thread, but after reading everything about TDEE, BMR, and CUT I am a little confused and need some things explained, like, super simply. So I figured out that at 158 lbs my TDEE with moderate exercise (I work out about 3 times a week and walk frequently…

NSV - Body fat!
I take my body fat every two weeks. Two weeks ago I was at 21.3% body fat, today I was 20%. The scale may not be moving much, but it is definitely working! And for those that want to take your body fat at home, I recommend the Omron Body Fat Monitor - it works great and is only about $40?
