Four Year Surgiversary
I cannot believe it was four years ago today I had my surgery. Even with the struggles I had with some regain, which I have been able to get under control, it was the best decision I have made for my health and quality of life and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The long and winding road
This past year has not been a good one for me. I watched my Dad’s health decline, his cognitive functioning come and go. I stopped caring too much about what I ate, using the stress of helping care for him and the pain of watching him struggle, and working 2 jobs and caring for a grandson one night per week as my excuse.…

Pre-Op Diet
VSG is in a week!!! Im excited and looking forward to the journey. Im doing liquids right now, but I am wondering...what were your diets like during liquids? How many calories did you consume? I was not given a number to stay at, but I have lost 8lbs since Wednesday when I started liquids. I'm finding the broth is making…

How soon should you start working out?
I’m 3 weeks post op (VSG), at 2 weeks my surgeon said I can start working out but not lift more than 20 pounds. I saw a personal trainer and he said he doesn’t think it’s a good idea because I’m still adjusting and it’s too soon. He said that right now I would be burning more than I’m consuming. Also I’m having a hard time…

Stopping weight loss and entering maintenance
For those who have reached their goal weight and entered maintenance how did you go about stopping your loss and entering maintenance? My surgeon said my body will just stop losing, but considering I am 10 pounds from my goal and was mysteriously down 6 pounds in the last week, I'm thinking I may need to add more calories…

Surgery Eve...
Hello everyone! I am finally having my VSG surgery tomorrow. Any last tips or things that you wished you'd done the day before?

8 Months out... What does your day look like food-wise?
Hi Fellow VSGers! Just curious to know what your day looks like food-wise. What are you eating? How many calories? How much protein? I am pretty steady - but only losing 4 pounds / month maybe at this point so am looking to tweak and want to see what ya all are doing so maybe I can learn something new~! Thanks.

Cool Sculpting?
Curious if anyone has had it looked into Cool sculpting? I set myself up for a consultation since it would be a stretch for me to pay out of pocket for a tummy tuck and my insurance won't cover it. Has anyone done Cool Sculpting or know of anyone who has had it?

Fingers crossed that insurance approves me!
So I have submitted my food journal, completed the required appointments and now this week I will find out if my insurance will approve me at the 3 month mark or if I have to wait until the 6 months. I am hoping of course I get approved now and not have to wait until November! (it's just a matter if my insurance will…

Dating life Post Surgery
I cannot be alone in the single but dating life. It's so weird to try and meet people, then figure out how much to tell them and when. I'm meeting a new guy this Saturday. Nervously excited. We are meeting in a forest preserve to go for a walk. That's new. I like it. He's active and loves being outside. So, we'll walk and…

BMI at Surgery
I have finally received my records from my PCP and am finishing the month-long Life After Surgery classes required to submit my records for insurance approval, so surgery is finally on the horizon. During the wait, my BMI has dropped from 47 to 36, so I'm happy about that. I expect a BMI of 35 at my time of surgery. Have…

Back on track
So the past few weeks have been crazy -- spent almost 2 weeks back in NY/northeast on "vacation", came back to a crazy week at work and hadn't been able to meal plan, went away that next weekend, another week of no meal planning, back to school and back to the grind. I can't begin to tell you how it sucked beig out of my…

Insurance paying for protein
https://www.insurenutrition.com/ I'm on another bariatric site where people are talking about ordering from that link ^^^. You order your protein shakes from them, tell them your surgeons name, and which surgery you had. As long as you have health insurance it gets billed directly to your insurance. I haven't tried yet,…

Bariatric Surgery Consultation
Hi everyone, I have an appointment scheduled for the 28th to consult a physician about the possibility of getting Bariatric Surgery. Has anyone here gotten either Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass surgery and do you have any information to offer or suggestions of questions I should possibly ask my provider?

Trying to decide between VSG and RNY
This is my first post!! I am Joanna, and I am 37 years old. I've been approved for surgery, but it's my choice which one I have. I'm struggling with that because there are pros and cons to both for me. I don't have bad heartburn, but my surgeon found some acid reflux damage during the scope they did last month. I also have…

Are people around you asking for weight loss advice?
THis is a bit of a rant...I will get over it... :p :p :p I'm on overload with my neighbors asking for advice. I finally hosted a girls night so we could support each other and talk nutrition/weightloss. I gave out the TDEE calculator.net and Myfitnesspal. app. I sat back and listened... So much conflicting information…

Surgery this Thursday....advice?
Hi all! I have sleeve surgery this Thursday 9/7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been through the class and had my pre op with the bariatric nurse. But how about some practical "been there" advise. Clear soup recipes? Pain management ideas? Thanks all!

Face-to-Face Friday
Anyone up for celebrating our progress with a face-to-face comparison? I'm five months out from surgery and I've lost 70 pounds (about half of what I think I want to lose). In the last couple of weeks it's become easier to let poor choices (I'm talking about you, sugar) sneak back in. I need to kick myself in the butt to…

Surgery questions... PLEASE HELP!!!!
I recently just started my journey to bariatric surgery on Aug 14th. My insurance requires a managed weight loss program, psych exams etc as I'm sure some of u kno! Being that my BMI is > 50 I'm req. to do the program for 3 months, and I had my first sit down with my psychologist yesterday (Aug 19th) ... my insurance…

Calorie Count
I am 4 months out from sleeve surgery and was stalling, so my nutritionist had me increase my calories to 900-1000 per day (I was previously eating between 650-850/day). In two weeks I gained 6 lbs!

Caught myself
Stress eating ugghhhh. Had a day that left me angry and stressed out. I started to grab up food to make myself feel better. I had two of my husbands nature valley chocolate peanut protein bars back to back. Nothing but a glorified candy bar. >:) >:) I'm going to the gym again tonight to cope with my crappy day. Less guilt…

Low Ferritin after bypass
Anyone else struggling with their iron levels after bypass? My ferritin levels have gone from 68 in October 2015 (3 months after surgery) to 10 at my two year check up. It has been adversely affecting my running performance since late last year. I was technically in the normal range in January at 14 but had already been…

Anyone regret WLS?
Hey there! I was (still am?) on the Optifast plan, but I'm thinking that WLS would really aid me in many ways, although I know it's certainly not the magic fix to it all. So much of weight loss (& maintenance) is mental. With that being said, has anyone regretted getting weight loss surgery? If so, I'd love to hear your…

Trigger Foods
How do you deal with trigger foods when the rest of your family may want to enjoy them? My husband and son enjoy potato chips with their sandwiches on occasion, but I can't have chips in the house. Pizza is also a trigger for me, but my family loves it. How does your family handle this kind of situation?

TMI - Bowel Movements after VSG???
I'm aware that diarrhea and/or constipation are normal after VSG for many folks. In fact, I had diarrhea in the hospital the day I was released, and again when I got home. It quickly turned into soft stool, not very much though - especially since I was on a full liquid. But since starting solids, I haven't gone. My last BM…

Migraines and Vertigo post op
Hi, I am about 15 mos post op. Suffered from migraines for years, and had a bout of vertigo only 3x prior to surgery. The past 2 months I have had vertigo kicking up quite a bit -- the last incident was a few weeks ago but it wasn't the benign kind where the crystals in my in er ear got out of place. The ENY had nothing to…

Macros
Hi! I'm new to the community. I've had my first visit for VSG with five more to go before surgery. I'm wondering does anyone count macros before and/or after the surgery? If so, what did your dietician advise? I know my dietician told me to consume at least 60g of protein in a day, minimum. I pretty much eat healthy…

Rewards!
I saw that @Bekah7482 posted a comment about how her boyfriend asked how she would Reward herself and for 20 lbs she was going to treat herself to a manicure - well, her boyfriend is awesome and surprised her by treating her to a manicure (lucky girl..he's a keeper!) Have any of you decided to reward yourself for hitting…
