  • First off, congrats on your progress. You have come a LONG way. It's easy to put weight on but much harder to get it off and keep it off. You are 20# to your goal so my suggestion would be to continue at your current deficit if you still have 20-30 lbs to lose. Unfortunately you either need to tighten up your logging, be…
  • Agree with some of the posters above. Everyday foods: Thin corn tortillas or Ole Spinach & Herb tortillas (50 calories) vs flour (140 calories) Flatout flatbreads (130 calories for the whole thing) vs Pillsbury pizza crust (160 calories for 1/6 of the pizza) Fage Total 0% Greek yogurt (100 calories for the whole container)…
  • I get ideas off Google. Google "low calorie meal ideas with chicken" and you'll get a TON of recipes. Personally I'm ok with eating the same thing every week Monday through Friday; as long as I switch it up the next week. I will do fish recipes one week, chicken recipes the next week and turkey recipes the 3rd week and…
  • THIS! I just get one cookie, put up the rest (out of sight out of mind) and tell myself to enjoy it because I'm not having another one.
  • When all my pre-weight gain pants (size 6) no longer fit. Good excuse for me to go shopping!
  • Because then your not drinking away your calories!
  • I tried it for a month and cancelled it after the first week. Just wasn't work the extra "features".
  • What an awesome story. Thank you for sharing it. I'm tired of yo-yo dieting as well. It's tough trying to lose weight for 6 months out of the year, only to gain it all back the last 6 months. You look great BTW!
  • Reading some of these posts is making me hungry so I'm going to post this real quick and head on outta here! Last thing I ate was a turkey sandwich on wheat and small salad for lunch.
  • Like the above poster said, if you are trying to lose weight, just make sure that you are eating less calories than you burn. If you are not losing weight following MFP's calculations, stop eating back your exercise calories. If you feel that you have to and still feel famished, try eating a small percentage of it.
  • Usually people dread the exercise that they aren't good in. In my case, that's lateral raises hands down. I'd rather do 10 burpees or push-ups for every lateral raise that I have to do.
  • I guess it's preference. I'm not a big lifter but when I do lift, I wear gloves for the grip and to prevent callouses on my hands.
  • Your numbers are pretty similar to mine. MFP gives me 1200 to eat. My BMR is around 1307 and my TDEE is around 1900. I wear a Fitbit and on days I don't work out, I can usually burn 2000 a day. Doing the math, 2000 - 750 = 1250, I'm supposed to lose 1.5 lbs a week but I don't. I've been gaining and losing the same 2-3 lbs…
  • I've been doing 1200 calories a day for the last 4 months and have lost over 25 pounds. I've just learned what to eat and what not to eat. I've also learned what I can "sacrifice" and what I can't to stay within that budget. For example, I drink a red bull almost every morning but that's it for breakfast (never been a…
  • If your goal is to gain lean muscle mass and not lose any more weight, you need to start lifting heavy. I would start with low reps 5-8 3x but at a weight that you can barely finish by the last couple reps. For your arms, do dumbell rows, curls, flys, presses and push-ups. For your legs, do squats, deadlifts, dumbell…
  • Day Weight Comments 05/03: 133.8 A week ago, I was 135.5 so that is a 1.7# decrease! 05/04: 133.2 Weight is slowly and steadily coming off. Trying to keep my food logging tight and my diet clean. 05/04: 133.4 All these small fluctuations! Up, down, up, down.
  • I just discovered Halo Top from reading about it here. Great for that late night craving of something sweet; especially when you still have enough calories left over in your deficit.

  • If it's only been a week I wouldn't go changing anything, especially if you've already lost 20# in the last 25 days. Just tighten up on your logging. continue being active and the weight will come off. Sounds to me that you are creating a high enough deficit per your doctor's instructions that you can't NOT lose weight on…
  • I would just make a sensible looking plate consisting of mainly protein and fresh vegetables and then log it later when you get back to the office. Fogo de Chao is crazy good but stay away from their mashed potatoes and other high-calorie foods. Go crazy at that salad bar but avoid the various cheeses and go green!
  • I think your current weight of 173 is an ideal weight based on your height. How do you look and feel? Are you happy with your body? If so, I'd go ahead and make the switch to maintenance and start eating up to your TDEE. This way you know how much to eat in order to maintain your current weight and you can finally stop…
  • Man some of you guys are eating good and it sounds delicious! Great thread to pick up other lunch ideas. For lunch today I had a taco! It consisted of a low Carb flour tortilla, 2 oz of shredded chicken breast, a scoop of non-fat greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of pico and a tablespoon of taco sauce. Total calories = 256
  • Avocado ice cream? Hmmm...not sure if that would be tasty to me. If your going to go the alternative ice cream route, do shaved ice or Halo Top. An entire pint of vanilla bean is 240 calories. For avocado, I do what other posters have said, on top of a bagel thin or wheat toast with either tomato or an egg. For lunch I eat…

  • When you gotta go, you gotta go. Don't fight it.
  • The science behind it is homeostasis. Your body has adapted to the calories you've been feeding it these last 50 days and has regulated the amount of calories it wants to burn no matter how much activity you do. I stayed in the same deficit as I did when I first started my weight-loss journey in January and by the end of…
  • I would love to participate! I was on a plateau for a little over a month but I finally broke through it and am now down in the 130's. I also weigh myself every morning to make sure I'm on the right track but never more than once a day. I started this weight loss journey in January at my heaviest; 160#. Day Weight Comments…
  • I agree with the post above. It's hard to "eye-ball" food and easy to underestimate especially if you are eating fast food on the daily. I have 3 kids and that includes a 3 year old like yourself. All he wants to eat is chicken nuggets and fries from McDonald's. Yea it's cheap and convenient to just say to yourself, "Ok…

  • To the original OP, I have also been on a diet since January and have lost a total of 35# at an average of 2# a week. Around the last week of March however; my weight stalled. I was stuck at 140# a week even though I hadn't changed my workout routine or food intake. It was obvious that my body went into homeostasis. It had…
