  • Welcome! I've been on mfp for almost 10 weeks. I've learned you really have to read labels and make wise decisions about what food will fill you up, be satisfying, and fall within the ranges of the categories you choose to use. I always go over on protein and don't worry about it. The areas I'm concerned with are saturated…
  • Are you eating a variety of foods or sticking to the same meals every day? Sometimes, mixing it up some makes a difference. Sounds like you vary your exercise. Drinking plenty of water? You may be eating too little and your metabolism is sluggish. Hope maybe some of this might help. Bette
  • You've come to the right place. Talk about a fun way to lose weight...so many great "friends" to motivate you and keep you on the path to a healthier you! I've been on mfp for almost 9 weeks and have lost 26 pounds and lots of inches. I'm addicted to water aerobics so am taking 6 classes per week. This is a true lifestyle…
  • First thing in the morning, plan what you are going to eat for the day, including snacks. By now you should be able to easily. Then you can see the total of each category BEFORE you eat too much! Very important to plan your meals and stick to it. I've seen a Nutritionist this week and she wasn't concerned about my going…
  • I just met with a Nutritionist for the first time and she said I needed to add 2-3 fruits to my daily diary. I asked her about all the sugar in them (I'm pre-diabetic) and she said look for the fruit with the most fiber and to maybe eat half a portion of fruit instead of the whole thing. I've said many times in the past 8…
  • Got alot of good advice! My sugar free french vanilla creamer in my coffee is my ONLY splurge of the day. If I'm going to drink only one cup of coffee; it has to taste delicious and, truth be known, it probably has more creamer in it than coffee! Enjoy:).
  • Looks like I'm the "oldie but goodie" in the bunch so far. I'm 63 and was recently diagnosed as being pre-diabetic so doc gave me a choice: 1) meds or 2) healthy food choices + exercise. I chose #2! In the 8 weeks since I joined mfp, I've lost 26 pounds. It's a lifestyle change for me...not just a diet to buy cute clothes.…
  • Boy have you come to the right place! MFP is a lifesaver for those of us who are "older" but still need to get healthy. I'm 63 and joined this past August 21. I've lost 26 pounds and many inches. I only measure every 4 weeks but weigh every week. I love having friends on mfp since we all have the same goal in…
  • I've been recently diagnosed with pre-Diabetes so sweets are no longer an issue! However, I've been plagued, like you, with a love of sweets my entire 63 years. So I'm with you friend. What clicked with me was when I was told I could choose two routes--either thru proper nutrition or going the Rx/shots route. It was a…

  • I would LOVE to be your friend. I'm 63, married for 30 years, have 3 daughters, and 1 awesome granddaughter. I'm a high school secretary so I need lots of energy to stay one step ahead of the students! I joined mfp 8 weeks ago today and have dropped 26 pounds (or ~2 stones...am I about right?) so I'm feeling proud,…
  • Try wearing a pedometer all day long and see how many miles you end up walking in a day. I have a conversion chart but it doesn't list housework, washing vehicles, etc. Bette
  • Is there a pool near you? Try taking water aerobics for your back issue. It has been a lifesaver for me and my joints. Used to LOVE step class but it is pretty "pounding" to your back and joints. Try a few other options, especially if you don't like step. You either do or you don't. Get some variety in, watch your diary…
  • Love to be your friend. I'm 63 and a wife, mother, grandmother, high school secretary, with a hectic life too. I've lost 24+ towards my 100 pound goal. Never been this excited about getting healthier. Was recently diagnosed as being pre-diabetic and doc said I had two choices: eat healthy or go on meds. That was an easy…
  • Sounds delicious! I have bought in the past "sugar-free honey"...now isn't that strange. Wonder if it would work in place of the "sugar honey"? I am pre-diabetic and am always looking for a good way to lower the sugar in recipes. I just might very well dry it myself and will let you know. Bette
  • Isn't it interesting how our focus changes when we make a life-altering decision? Mine came towards the end of August when my doctor told me I was pre-Diabetic and only 10 points away from being a full-blown Diabetic. This news was following a glucose tolerance test. I'd heard about mfp from my youngest daughter and her…
  • I'm wondering the same thing. My doctor today didn't think it's a problem. I do see a Nutritionist next week. I'm taking my last two weeks' diaries for her to look over. Protein is the only thing I go over on but it's almost daily. I eat really well and take great leftovers for lunch at work. I will let you know next week…
  • You have to decide what works for YOU. Pre-Diabetes is making me take mfp and my healthy new lifestyle seriously. I was only 10 points away from Diabetes at 63 years old. I don't want that so I followed my youngest daughters' advice and checked into mfp. It is sure working for me. I'm just letting my body do what it wants.…
  • Absolutely! This is the end of my 7th week on mfp and I've loved every single minute of it. I'm Bette (like Bette Midler), 63 and am in the midst of losing 100 pounds as my goal. That would put me, too, at 180. As of last Sunday, I'd lost 22 pounds. My doctor diagnosed me as Pre-Diabetic and asked if I wanted to work on it…
  • Join the crowd! We've all got a similar story to tell. Something has to click inside you that puts you back on the right track. Mine was several months ago when my doctor told me I was Pre-Diabetic. That was a shock to me since I never thought it would happen to me. That week I decided that it was time to take off this…
  • I would love to join IF I can do my workouts in water aerobics classes (5-6 hours weekly). Just 10 minutes in one of my classes equates to 1-2 miles walking on land so these are great classes. May I join? I'm very competitive and this will be my first challenge. Let me know.
  • My info: 1. Sunday, 9/18 I weighed 262.8 (Sunday 9/25, I weighed 261 (-1.8), and Sunday 10/2 I weighed 257.9 (-3.1). 2. I am choosing option 3, losing 1.6 lbs. which will put my total at 44 ugly pounds off 3. Is it too late for me to join? My name is Bette (like Bette Midler, just not as devine but I do have red hair!). I…
  • You've gotten great advice from other friends so maybe I can add just a few tips. You've just slipped off track momentarily. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and take it one step at a time. I wouldn't worry about weighing personally if you don't have good scales. If you are eating right, the weight will automatically…
  • I have a crock pot that I just love because the lid will clamp down and won't spill if you need to take it somewhere with you. It also has a serving spoon that fits on the lid. Very convenient! The brand is Hamilton Beach Stay or Go. One of my favorite receipes came from Weight Watchers. Take 4 or more frozen chicken…
  • Can you hear me laughing??? No matter what I cook, if there is the least little thing that isn't supposed to be in there, my poor husband will get it in his portion. We had talapia fish the other night and he found about 20 tiny bones and I didn't have any. He thinks I'm trying to kill him with "knuckles, bones, tendons"…
  • I don't know a better or faster way. I eat some of the same foods daily (dinner salad) so that remains the same, but I've learned to simplify what I'm putting in. I try to leave out the fru fru like sugar free or fat free and you can pick it out of the list quickly. Otherwise it comes back "Not found":( Let me know if you…
  • I love to add sliced almonds, dried cranberries, and a little brown sugar/Splenda mix. This gives you some calories, protein, sugar, etc. Gives it a little kick and crunch. Got the idea from Starbucks who has THE BEST oatmeal ever. Fruit/nut mix and brown sugar pkg come separate so you can add what you want.
  • I'm new too...like today was my first day. My daughter and new son-in-law have been on this for about a month and are seeing amazing results. I need to be accountable to myself as well as others. This was a great day and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. How are you doing so far? If you need encouragement, I'm your girl.…
