  • 5'10" and 156 here. Aiming to be under 150. There's a whole group for tall women here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/109-tall-women Lots of info there on where to buy long pants and giant shoes, commiseration on always weighing more than our friends, etc.
  • Thanks for the advice. I will pay more attention to knees and toes next time.
  • As for how she weighs 150 as a size 4, I can see this. I fit into a size 4 in some things at 156, 5'10" (and a 6 in others). It has a lot to do with how athletic/muscular you are, and where you carry your weight. My top half is tragically small, so I can wear small shirts, even though I'm tall and not particularly skinny.…
  • I'm your height and weighed 190 my senior year in high school. I lost 30 pounds my first year of college, then 20 more the next year (and was VERY thin). I've never gone above 165 since (except when pregnant) and feel best around 150. I carry extra weight in the same places you do. But I am 156 right now and feel…
  • There is no established etiquette for this because a "wedding gift opening party" would not be allowed by traditional standards of etiquette. Inviting people (other than, say, your mom, your sister, and your groom) over to watch you open gifts is a terrible idea! I think you can politely decline and hang out with your…
  • I think it's a fine idea. I actually stopped counting calories several months ago--I just eat more mindfully and exercise a lot. And I'm still slowly losing weight. (I'm also at a healthy weight but would like to lose a few, just for vanity's sake.) Give it a try and see how it goes. And 30 pounds is GREAT.
  • That is a great NSV! I like the ones that come from kids because they are so honest. For example, my 5 yo came up behind me and poked my rear end (he thinks it's hilarious; it drives me crazy) and then said, "Mama, your buns are getting so small." I decided to take it as a compliment.
  • It is SO cheap at Costco. Cheaper even than buying bulk at WF.
  • Also, just don't stand around hunched over in a sports bra. It's no one's best angle. :) I am 5'10, 157, and I also have fat to lose, though mine is all in my legs. I just want to say that it is much easier to hide a belly than legs in the summertime.
  • Are you sure you are measuring the right place? You should be measuring the smallest part of your torso. For most women, that's an inch or two above the belly button. If you are getting an accurate measurement, I think the only thing to do is lose a little more bodyfat. It's such a bummer we can't choose where we lose…
  • I get it, but you need to change the way you think in order to stop driving yourself crazy. Start by looking at this group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/109-tall-women I am 5'10" so I know how you feel. But honestly, at your height, anything around 150 is a great weight.
  • Try harder at math. Do all your homework, even when you can pass the class without it. Be nicer to your boyfriends. Oh, and play sports in high school. I really, really wish I hadn't spent my teenage years as a total slug.
  • I was a mess for a few months when I had a nursing, poorly sleeping baby plus a toddler. I can't recommend exercise enough--time away from the kids plus major physical exertion helps SO much with the stress. Plus, it'll give you a couple hundred more calories to snack away. I totally sympathize! And I have to say, it is SO…
  • I also have a skinny upper body and big legs. It bugs me. But: are your legs thick but firm? Because I don't think that looks bad at all. I can see that, even through I don't have any weight to lose from my head to my waist, there's still fat in my legs. If they were firm and muscular, I think I'd be at peace with them.…
  • As much as I hate to admit it, I didn't lose weight until I stopped drinking. I was a one-or-two-glass-a-night wine drinker, then gave it up by accident (I had a sinus infection). I now drink maybe one glass a week at most, and have lost about 5 pounds. I also have more energy. I still love wine, but I'm starting to…
  • I'm 5'10 and now 157; I just bought three pairs of size 6 jeans. Amazing how differently weight can be distributed. The last time I was a size 6 I weighed about 145, though, so I know that part if it is that sizes have changed in the last 15 years.
  • Measure your waist at the smallest part of your torso. It's right above your belly button--the spot where you get a crease when you bend sideways at the hip. Bust is around the fullest part--with a bra on.
  • I wouldn't do it. I have a 45-minute commute each way, and when I add it all up over the weeks, months, years, I'm depressed about how much extra time I spend away from my kids. I have a great job, but the commute is a killer. There's no way I would double it with kids at home.
  • I'm 5'10 with size 12 feet. People sometimes describe me as "willowy" but I feel like a lumbering giant. I'm also catastrophically clumsy, which doesn't help.
  • Started running a lot more (about 10 miles more.week) and stopped drinking a nightly glass of wine.
  • I got shin splints when I first started running (this was about 15 years ago). I just kept running and eventually stopped getting them. It took maybe a month or so to get over the discomfort. Also, it's possible that your shoes are good but not good for you. Maybe go to a running store and have them take a look at your…
  • I'm 5'10 and around 155. I'd love to be 145, though I'm pretty happy with my weight, other than my legs. But I've never liked my legs. They are very long but not lovely.
  • That is awesome! Congrats. I am just starting to contemplate a half marathon (after finishing my first 10k last week) and this is all very encouraging.
  • I don't think you are pregnant, but I know that Depo Provera makes a LOT of women gain a lot of weight. If weight loss is a priority, I would consider switching birth control methods.
  • Yay! I just did my first 10k, too, on Sunday. In just OVER an hour, though. :) 60:57. But it was great fun and gives such a feeling of accomplishment. Can't wait to do it again.
  • I have a 5 yo and a 3 yo and have been eating with them more often for the same reason, even though my DH doesn't get home until after their bedtime. We have had great success lately with grilling. Last night, we had grilled salmon, quinoa pilaf, and steamed broccoli. We have variations on that a lot: grilled chicken, a…
  • I've only lost about 10 pounds, but I went from 8s being tight to size 6 being loose. I think it's because I lost it mostly through exercise. I'm more muscled and my measurements went down significantly without all that much weight lost. Also, no elastic waists, except for in my running clothes. They just fit a lot better.
  • Thanks, all. And I love the pedicure idea. My feet need it.
  • I have young kids and work full time. My husband does, too. I can't make a gym membership make sense, either. But I do run at least 4 times a week, usually 3-6 miles at a time, almost always in the early morning. I haven't managed to start weight training, other than lifting two heavy preschoolers. But used weight sets are…
  • I dated an older guy with a major 6-pack when I was in grad school. I was both fascinated and repelled by his body. Eventually, repelled won out. He just looked like he thought about his body way too much. (He had major personality flaws, too, but his 6-pack was not a selling point, ultimately.) Now I'm very happily…
