  • You got me thinking on this. I froze some bananas yesterday and today put a small banana and about 3/4 cup frozen berries in a quart jar with a couple tablespoons of milk. Then blended it up with my stick blender - it worked great. Tasted great too!
  • Would a blender do the same thing? I was just looking at the yonanas website and it looks like a decent idea. (Off to check the kitchen for bananas and thrown them in the freezer.)
  • Kettlebells. The ballistic moves such as swings and snatches are said to burn nearly as many calories as uphill cross country skiing.
  • Great Job!!
  • Been eating too much salt and some crap over the weekend, but I'm glad that I have this challenge to keep my mind on it. Weight at start of challenge: 166 Today: 166 This week will be better!
  • Love, Love, Love my kettlebells! The Swing by Tracy Reifkind is a great place to start. She also posts a lot of workouts on youtube, including one of the best instructional videos I've seen on how to choose the proper size. I've recently seen her book available in my library system - so there's an opportunity to try before…
  • Wow! some fabulous new sites to try! Thanks!
  • I will never be a size 2. My goal is to be in a normal weight range, less than 20% body fat, and kick *kitten* strong.
  • I'm in! I've got a goal of losing 16 pounds by August 19th for the Dirty Girl race, so this will coincide perfectly! Current Weight: 166 August 19th Goal: 150
  • I kind of figure that when I reach my goal, that I will have some - especially since I have had 2 c-sections. But - I don't give a crap. I'll still look a heck of a lot better than I do now.
  • Whole wheat tortillas. Sam's Club has some that are really large with only 100 calories each.
  • Post of the week! :-)
  • I believe it! My daughters were putting the really big curved pipes on their arms and doing "muscleman" poses with them.

  • Do what you will do. It sounds cliche but it you do something for a week or two and then tire of it and go back to old habits you won't be doing yourself any favors. That said - after trying many things over many years, I have finally found that kettlebells are my favorite. Tracy Reifkind has a great book out called The…
  • Yeah, we made a pair of 1 1/2" pipes with sand, about 2-3 lb. each, and a pair of 1 1/2" inch pipes with a 4" pipe section filled with sand, about 7 lb. each. I'm not doing much with them yet either. I saw some videos of swipes, which I like because of the full-body aspect.

  • I've seen those, and the lighter weight ones seem like they would be great for mobility. I'm thinking more towards a pair of 10 or 15 lb. clubs with workouts from Scott Sonnon or Shane Heins.

  • I am loving that book and her workouts too. I'm working up to using my 30 lb. for all my swing stuff, and am currently using 20 lb. for snatches. Yesterday was Tracy's newest swing workout from youtube (one hand swing practice) plus the snatch sections of her 5 & 5 workout from a week or so ago. It's amazing how quickly…
  • Just made this for the first time today. I used dry beans (soaked and cooked) olive oil lemon juice garlic chives and basil sesame oil (I didn't have tahini and guessed at a substitute) salt & pepper I expect using the canned beans you wouldn't need to add the salt. This made quite a bit - does anyone know how long it…
  • The Swing by Tracy Reifkind. It's kettlebells, not dumbbells, but she is fantastic. She has a lot of videos on youtube as well.
  • The runkeeper app has a setting for biking. I don't know if there are preset workouts designed for biking, but you could at lease use it to track time and distance.
  • OMG - Warrior Dash looks hard!! (Maybe next year for me.) I like the beer at the end though.
  • I think it depends on what you are doing with the kettlebell. Swings & snatches are lots of cardio - presses & squats more strength. I usually enter it as 1/2 strength training and 1/2 light aerobics and hope that I'm guessing low, but I realize that's not really answering your question. There are many people here who have…
  • I signed up today for the Dirty Girl on 8/19. First time ever doing something like this and I've got some training to do!!
  • Your post made me smile today. Both of my parents grew up in Wausau so when I was a kid we made a lot of trips there. I remember so vividly going through "stinky town" and then knowing that we would be at Grandma's house soon. It's a beautiful area.
  • Hi. I'm new to the group and live near Brodhead.
  • This thread ... wow, it's so hard to even put it into words. I had one of those grandmothers. I remember talking to her on the phone when I was a kid. "Hello - how are you? Are you still fat? Oh. Let me talk to your mother." I can look at my "before" picture from a few years ago and see the progress I've made, but this…
  • Tried the sock sleeve thing today. I was doing a swing only workout so it was useful but not a necessity; but I will absolutely be using these with snatches. Thanks for posing this!! It got me searching for more info on Tracy Reifkind - she is fantastic!
  • I agree - artofstrength and dragondoor are both great. There is a video on youtube by Tracy Reifkind that is the best I've seen on how to choose the right size kettlebell. If I knew what I was doing I'd embed the video, but unfortunately I don't. Anyway, the title of the video is "How to chose the right size kettlebell".…
  • Almost - it's a 30 lb. The green and blue are each 15 lb. The black bells are 20 lb., 25 lb., and 30 lb. I'm not doing a lot with the 30 lb. yet, but I'll get there.
  • Oops - I almost forgot this one!
