  • How are the other home birth mamas doing? Here is my birth story! I had been having crampy contractions for a couple of weeks, so I was just waiting for those contractions to turn into something real! My EDD was anywhere from the 15th to the 17th depending on which ultrasound that you went with, so when both of those days…
  • Now that my baby boy is almost a week old, I am finally sitting down to type my birth story.... I had been having crampy contractions for a couple of weeks, so I was just waiting for those contractions to turn into something real! My EDD was anywhere from the 15th to the 17th depending on which ultrasound that you went…
  • Happy to hear that everyone is doing well... minus of course the lovely third trimester discomforts! I have been having lots of braxton hicks and pelvic discomfort, I did Zumba this week, took the kids to the park and have been walking and cleaning like crazy! I am just hoping that he makes his arrival soon! I started…
  • Honestly, it depends on your baby's size. You probably have enough. My babies were all 8 1/2 lbs or bigger, and they never really fit into newborn, so it went to waste. 0-3 mos and 3 mos are best.
  • I am planning a home birth in the next few weeks! I am due April 15th, so anytime after next week!
  • The end stages of pregnancy can be extremely uncomfortable, especially with your first when the head engages into the pelvis. Make sure that the pains aren't regular and worsening in intensity because that could be a sign of preterm labor. If you are having a lot of contractions, drink lots of water and get some rest. I…
  • I am so excited to have so many fellow home birth mamas!!!!! When are you all due? My EDD is April 15th, so in less than 4 weeks I will be full term! I have never been early with any pregnancy, but I nervous this time because I don't want to go into labor before 37 weeks and risk out! I am planning a home water birth. My…
  • I am 33 weeks and still doing Zumba once a week, walking, doing yoga and strength training. I can also probably count my marathon cleaning that I am doing to prepare my house for my home birth, chasing my three kids around and still working 12 hour shifts on my feet! You ladies are all doing amazing! Keep it up!
  • I am so excited for you, mama! I can't wait for my home birth, and and excited to have a fellow home birth mama! I have almost all of my supplies ready, and just need to pick a a few more things. Does your midwife have a birth kit that you buy, or do you have to compile your supplies? I tuned out all negativity, and refuse…
  • I am 32 weeks 5 days and up 17.5 as of my midwife appt. yesterday! I am hoping to stay close to 20 for my total, and I usually lose towards the end, so I am working really hard to stay close to the 20 lb mark! I am currently measuring 2 to 3 weeks ahead... another big baby for me!
  • I am so happy that you found a practice that you feel good with!!! That is so awesome!!! PS If you have a facebook, a great page to like is Birth Without Fear... they have tons of info, a blog and lovely birth stories of all kinds! And you can also post questions, so if you were still looking for a doula, their facebook…
  • Good luck, mama! I hope that you are able to go into labor on your own before then! I am so sorry for your loss! I hope that you have a beautiful, quick labor!
  • That is why I like them, they are perfect for layering.
  • Old Navy's camies are comfortable and nice and long so they don't ride up.
  • Induction is another slippery slope. Many refer to it is a cascade of events that can increase your likelyhood of a surgical birth. There is no standard induction method, but methods include cervidil (inserted into the cervix to help it ripen and start contractions), a foley bulb that is inserted into the cervix and…
  • My midwives require an appt. with their back up OB to clear all home birth mamas... I had mine yesterday, and I am cleared!!! And of course the OB mentioned that it looks like I am going to have another big baby... no big shocker there! Time to really buckle down and get my house all ready!
  • Good luck, Emily!!! I know how hard it is to have a practitioner that isn't on board with you. That happened to me with my first. They seemed really cool with my birth plan until I was in labor, then they threw my birth plan out the window. I dealt with a lot of guilt after that for not standing up for myself with my first…
  • Check out the WHO stance on c- sections as well as some general info. C- sections are a major surgery, and should be used as a tool to prevent major complications for mom and baby. It is also a surgery that can have lots of complications for mom and baby, which is why the WHO recommends a c- section rate of no greater than…
  • It is totally normal to feel that way... I felt like that with my first and had prodromal labor for weeks before she was born. I was 3cm dilated for over a month before I went into labor, but she actually came on her due date! The end is hard, but all you can do is relax and wait and trust your body and baby to choose the…
  • I would listen to your body on this one... if you feel hungry, it is probably for a reason. Are your calories set to maintenance or to gain? With the amount that you are exercising, your body may be trying to tell you that it needs more nutrients for the baby.
  • Good luck today! I hope that the midwife is the type of practitioner that you are looking for!!!(make sure that you know if your hospital is a teaching hospital.... when hospitals have residents, some practitioners defer care to them of laboring patients, and most residents are notorious for hating long labors and…
  • While you are peeing, try holding it in mid- pee. That is performing an effective kegel. I try and remind myself to do them @the red lights (weird but that's when I remember lol).
  • Feel free to add me, I am currently 30+ weeks pregnant with my fourth. I am active on MFP and log pretty much every day!
  • Congrats, Pregosaurus! He is adorable!
  • I like vinyasa prenatal yoga and barre workout prenatal ballet dvd's. The yoga one has different workout lengths and positions to help you through labor and birth as well as partner stuff.
  • It is hard to do, especially this far into the pregnancy, but you have to do what feels right. Don't compromise yourself or the birth that you want. I would see if you could have a consultation visit with the other practice/ midwife and see what vibes you get from them. Good luck!!! It is a tough decision!!!
  • I have my kids names in a lovely script on my ribs... luckily have have enough room for one more name! My hubby has portraits on his chest. They are so cute, and really captured our babies!
  • I have never heard of refusing stitches... even though you had a bad experience, if needed, I would still get stitches with tearing.. to me it would be like cutting your finger badly and sticking a band- aid on it instead of getting stitches. The stitches aid in the healing of the tear. Have you considered a water birth?…

  • I am sending good energy your way! I know a few women with two- vessel cords that carried to term with no issues! I am glad she is doing well!
