  • I started Bikram again today after a 6 mon hiatus . . . I wore my HRM and burned over 1100 calories! I did every pose to (almost) full expression. I tend to sweat a ton and have a high heart rate, so I'm sure that's a huge factor. Bikram has always been one of the biggest calorie burns for me, though . . . at my lowest…
  • Hi there! I wore my HRM a few weeks ago to Bikram and I burned 1180 calories in the 90 minute class! It of course depends on your shape and how much you push yourself, but everything I've read says the average is around 800. I love Bikram -- it's such a great workout!
  • Slicing lemons, limes, cucumbers, etc and putting them in your Brita or whatever water container you use so it infuses the water with the flavor is a great way to make water less boring. I've never really understood how someone can hate water, since it's flavorless and so good for you, but I do know several people that do…
  • Have you been taking your measurements along the way, too? It is possible to lose weight without losing inches, as well as vice versa. The number on the scale is only half the equation . . . However, 15 pounds is a great accomplishment, and if you keep at it the inches should catch up soon!
  • Cheerios! Great source of Fiber and low in cals. Also, Special K has a ton of yummy flavors now -- the Vanilla almond and Red Berries are VERY good, and low in cals, too!
  • LOVE THEM! I eat one for breakfast 2-3 times per week. the Peppermint one is my fave, but the Carmel nut one is awesome, too . . . and cookies and cream, for that matter! If you look at the ingredients, the first 10 or so are all natural, organic ingredients, which means that they are mostly natural. My nutritionist and my…
  • I have never tried the DVDs but the classes are incredible! I go 2-3 times a week and absolutely love it! I have a HRM and during a 1 hour class I usually burn between 750 and 850 calories, and I have a blast doing it! The best part is that you don't have to be a great dancer or have perfect rhythm . . . just move, move,…
  • Thanks! I forgot to mention the Tequila . . . I have stumbled (literally) upon some fantastic margharitas, too! FatDancer . . . Any restaurant suggestions that don't use lard? Not sure how to determine that . . . I'm loving getting to experience a new a part of the country, but I definitely hope to keep the weight in check…
  • I take Zumba on a regular basis, and I wear an HRM during class. I consistently burn between 650 and 750 calories. Of course it all depends on your weight/age/fitness level and how much you put into it.

  • No Sugar Added Fudgesicles . . . 40 calories each and very yummy!
  • If you have access to a freezer, try popsicles or fudgesicles . . . they are refreshing, low-cal, and take awhile to eat so the time passes! I love the no sugar added fudgesicles . . . for only 40 calories they are a great chocolate fix!
  • I use MFC a lot, and always wear my HRM when I workout . . . I am typically way over their estimates, sometimes more than double. Today I did a 30 minute cardio workout on it and burned 364 calories according to my HRM.
  • It's so great that you gained your composure and then confronted him. Not that ignorance is ever an excuse, but some guys just don't get the difference between humor and being hurtful . . . hopefully you taught him to be more careful with his words. We can say "sticks and stones . . . " all we want, but there are some…
  • YOGA! Seriously, it changed the way I process stress completely. But really any exercise is great for combating stress . . . exercise releases euphoric endorphins . . . when you feel stress coming on, go for a walk or a bike ride or do some push-ups . . . whatever works!
  • Definitely watching! Bachelorette and then Dance . . .
  • Yeah, I could set the machine, and did . . . I see discrepencies where the machine is higher than the HRM a lot and I'd be more comfortable with that because I'd rather be under than over, but I was definitely thrown when my HRM was higher, and by so much!
  • I agree with kerri . . . sounds like you aren't eating enough calories. Also, 172 for a 6'2" man is a decent weight . . . so the more in the "normal" range you are the slower the weight will come off. Are you sure you want to lose weight, or do you just want to get in better shape (ie tone and build muscle)? You mind find…
  • What did you put in as your activity level? It asks you whether you are sedentary, active, very active, etc . . . this assessment should be your activity level BEFORE exercise, because you will track any exercise separately. If you put in you are Very Active that might increase your net cals . . . most sedentary or lightly…
  • The theory and the goal behind MFP is too lose weight more slowly and systematically. Yes, in theory if you eat less than you will lose more more rapidly, but that weight will be much harder to keep off in the long run, and you could be doing long-term damage to your body by not eating enough nutrients to sustain your…
  • Actually, it is possible to burn 300+ in 30 minutes of walking -- I have an HRM and when I walk I burn about 690 calories in a hour. The calorie burn is going to be different for everyone based on your body, age, and where your heart rate is when you exercise. Someone who is in great shape will burn less jogging than…
  • LOL . . . perhaps, although if I had to chose between sex and the Red Sox, that would be a really tough call.
  • The Windsor Pilates DVDs are great. Also, there are several good Pilates workouts On Demand, if you have digital cable.
  • No sex?! Oh well . . . I'd have to say bread, then. All things bread, but bagels in particular.
  • Pilates is the one and only thing that has worked for me . . . I've been doing it 3X a week for about a month now and I'm amazed by the difference in my things and arms. You can get videos that target specific areas, or do a comprehensive workout. I attend a class once or twice a week and then just incorporate her moves…
  • I never gave them my phone number so I don't know how that could be possible . . . are you sure she was on the right site? It's always been free for me!
  • I echo chgudnitz's thoughts . . . there's no healthy way to do it, and you could end up gaining twice as much back by putting your body under that kind of stress. It concerns me that you say you'd be happy to see the pounds drop for even a minute . . . that tells me you are too focused on a number on the scale and not…
  • I would report that immediately to a boss or HR or something -- that is completely inappropriate. Not only is it none of his business how your body looks, it is unbelievably insensitive and immoral to stoop to that level. If he truly cared about your weight loss he'd approach it more gently -- in this case he clearly WANTS…
  • Bagels!
  • AMAZING! You look incredible, and seem to have had such a great attitude the whole way through. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
  • Your welcome -- the best advice I can give is to listen to your body. If you honestly feel full on 1200/day, then you don't have to force yourself to eat, but maybe a protein shake after your workouts would be a good idea, or an extra piece of fruit between meals. You don't have to bridge the gap entirely, but remember…
