I've always found outside easier, but like to do a treadmill once a week or so to try to get pacing more consistent. Agree with earlier poster that it varies by individual, and that your running should let you still be conversational. You will probably find that the speed creeps up over the first few weeks - and then when…

Jim - you failed to tell them about the fierce "chop" Lake Michigan was dishing out on the day of the ironman. The swim alone was a HUGE accomplishment - and to follow it up with another 69 miles on land?? Incredible. Way to go!!

You ROCK!! :) Good luck at the 10k

I'm in wisconsin - so the water can be pretty chilly even into later in season...although I have no intention of doing any that have a great lakes swim. More inland lake stuff. I am really concerned about mobility in the full sleeve ones. I will see if I can find a place to do a rental. Thank you everyone!!
-
Possibly - I'll look into this. Here's another question for you all. Full sleeves or sleeveless?

I think you mean 9 min mile. 9 MPH - would be a 6:40 mile - which is really REALLY fast. To the OP. Yes - a 9:20 mile is running. And a GREAT pace if you haven't been training at all.
-
So awesome!!

It is to give you time to recover as well as continue to work on pacing. A lot of people find it to be MUCH harder than they expected. Dont skip it.

Please be careful and take it slowly. My knee pain was from a bad fall - I probably should have been doing physical therapy but wasn't. The lack of mobility and my weight made for a long recovery. I think exercise helped it finally heal - but I started really REALLY slowly - and used a lot of ice and ibuprofen.

Thanks Bubba! I appreciate your support. Keep on swimming!! :)

You are incredible...well done!
-
Awwwww....Dad - I'm proud of you too!
-
Right back at ya.

It is called iFly - they have them all over. It is an indoor skydiving simulator - you are in a giant vertical wind tunnel. SO FUN!

Will you be walking or working at it? I would think that you're going to be VERY active....and wouldn't worry too much about the missed days. If you can get 1 run in the whole time, don't sweat it. My daughter is really looking forward to the horse fair as well - she's a new pony clubber and has never been to the horse…

YOU ARE INCREDIBLE. And a little warning at the front so I wouldn't be bawling on my flight right now would have been nice, btw. I've been swimming for 4 months and running for nearly a year - my first sprint tri will be this summer....and I am terrified. I am so impressed by your strength and willpower. AMAZING.
-
Yes - you absoluly can do it....and if you want it bad enough, you will. One regret I had - take some regular progress pictures. The only real "before" I have is the one in my story - and I had to ask a friend to send it to me, because I had promptly deleted it the first time. Then, when you are partway through, and it…
-
Definitely - as I'm sure you know....Congrats on 65lbs...that's awesome!
-
I soooo wanted it to be wine..... Thank you!
-
Wow - that's AWESOME!!

You CAN do it. Up until this year, I had never run more than a block. EVER. In 41 years. I hadn't really done anything that would qualify as a "workout" in at least 15. Now - I can run circles around my 20 year old me. Stick with it, and you will too.

If you really love to swim, look into a masters workout swimming program - often at the Y. Having a coach to push you and help with stroke efficiency can be a tremendous help. There are a wide range out there - some are very competitive teams, but a lot have a wide range from beginner and those looking for fitness only…

Love it!!! I got a ton of donation deduction this year too. YEA!!!

Awesome job...and I love, love LOVE the shoes from Feb 2013. I need a pair of black wedge sandals....anyhow....YOU LOOK FABULOUS!
-
Congratulations on 7 years!
-
You are a rock star!!
-
Thank you. :) I am definitely healthier than I have ever been - at lower weights (in my 20's) I was unable to run a block. Now I go 3-5 miles at a time. Clothes fit at higher weights on the way back down because I am much stronger. You can do it too!!

My first one was a biggest loser one too!!!

I don't really have the maintaining thing down yet....and still have a lot to learn about making good choices. Especially when traveling. I do know that the food log, for me, is a critical part of my success...and likely not something I will give up (at least not at first). I don't really watch the mix of food as much as I…

Are you finding it hard to stay motivated? I am finding it harder to stay on track.
