  • When roasting veggies I tend to stick to olive oil, salt and pepper. Sometimes I'll throw in rosemary, sage or thyme (or all 3) but keeping it simple is what I like. Roasting the veggies rings out so much flavor on it's own, you want to compliment it, not drown it out.
  • Stomach flu. I've lost 5 pounds in about 5 days.
  • The most compassionate thing you can do for your cat is give it away to someone who can fill it's needs. I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons (and do my best to understand where my eggs and dairy come from to ensure happy animals) and I have 2 cats. I would never in a million years begin to feed them a vegetarian or vegan…
  • Raw veggies are good for mindless grazing or if you really want to feel that physically-full feeling in your stomach but the fat and protein help satiate the hunger better for me.
  • Raw almonds. The crunch is satisfying and the protein and fat satiate hunger quite well. You could do salty as well if that's something you crave out of a snack. You don't need many to tide you over for a snack. Half an ounce (10-15 almonds) is about 80 calories.
  • I don't look at my macros at all. My eating habits are pretty good by now so I do my best to get several servings of fruit and veggies each day and as long as I'm doing that the rest generally falls into place.
  • If it's that painful you're doing something wrong - pushing too hard. When stretching you should reach a comfortable edge - enough to feel it, but not so much that you feel pain or your muscles shake. Are you in a class or doing it at home w/a book or video? If in class, I'd ask the teacher, (if at home, look it up online)…
  • I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK I looooooved it. Quirky and sad and cute and fun.
  • If a restaurant has apps for $4-7, and entrees for $12-18 I generally consider that reasonable. Anything below that is cheap, anything above that is "spendy" and if you hit $50-60 per person then you're getting expensive. I'd say most of my meals out for dinner fall in the reasonable category (lunch would usually be…
  • This is perfect timing for me. I'm heading out tomorrow and have a short flight with only a 45 minutes layover, than another longer flight. I know I'll be starving a crabby when I get in if I don't have some kind of snack but I was worried about finding any kind of decent food at the airport. I'll bring some fruit and…
  • Are you leaving enough rest time in between runs? If you're also working out your legs, maybe you're over training. I did a "learn to run" class a few years ago (when I weighed almost 60 pounds more than I do now) and it was even easier than a C25K. We started the first week by walking 2 minutes, running 1 minute for 20…
  • I cook for myself nearly every day. I'm usually home first and I generally let my bf know what i'm making and ask him if he wants to join me. About once or twice a week he does, the other nights he cooks for himself. I'm a veggie and carefully count calories, he's not and is more free with his diet. When he cooks he offers…
  • I go to McDonald's once a year and that's it. A friend and I go every year on St Patty's day and get a shamrock shake and fries. It's totally worth it as a once a year treat. I'd also comment that I hate Hungry Girl's use of chemical fake foods, but food from McDonald's is just as full of chemicals and artificial flavors…
  • Minnesota is often named in the healthier states but being overweight is still fairly common. In the folks I know and socialize with and where I work it isn't as common. Everyone I know does their best to eat right, exercises, is involved in some kind of sport, etc. In my family and many of the suburbs and rural areas it…
  • My bf has a great palate, but we cook separately most nights of the week because we tend to prefer different foods. I'm generally home (and hungry) first so I always tell him what I'm making and offer to cook for him and he either decides to join me or cooks on his own. When he cooks - same deal. It works great for us.
  • Way to go!!!! You look fantastic!
  • Weight discrimination absolutely exists in the medical community. It's quite common. Based on the story, I can't say that's what happened, though I'm inclined to belive soi as the doctor wasn't forthright in his/her explnation of why she should be treated elsewhere. I'd never want to be treated by a doctor who didn't want…
  • Your weight can fluctuate up to 3-5 pounds from day to day. Heck, it can fluctuate that much during the same day. As recommended above, it's best to weigh yourself the same time of day wearing the same amount of clothes. For example, I weigh myself first thing in the morning after using the bathroom, naked. For some folks,…
  • Water is good for us and a basic need, yes, but the amount of water we need is often vastly overstated, especially when it comes to weight loss advice. Keep yourself hydrated. Drink mostly water, but other liquids count too. We get lots of water from the food we eat, even.
  • This is my main use. I mix it w/water, a bit of rice vinegar, Bragg's liquid aminos (instead of soy sauce) and chili flakes and use that as a stir fry sauce. I'll add dried ginger and garlic powder if I don't have that fresh as well.
  • Get rid if it! I hate having anything useless around. I seem to move every 2-3 years and that's always the best, getting rid of anything you no longer need in prep for the move.
  • I'd turn it in. I saw $5 hanging out in a snow bank the other day and I left it there, hoping whoever lost it would look for it.
  • Reminds me of when someone says "at least s/he's honest" as if that's some big accomplishment. Honesty is expected. It should be a given. You don't get special points for being honest. An honest a$$hat is still an a$$hat. You can be polite and genuine at the same time. It's absolutely possible.
  • It doesn't. If you have an eye for it anything can work. There are no hard, fast rules when it comes to fashion.
  • Dancer in the Dark It was nearly impossible for me to NOT sob out loud in the theatre. I watched it a few eyars later at home and cried and cried and cried out loud. Don't think I'll ever watch it again.
  • My bf had class in the evening so I worked out, shoveled snow and had half a frozen veggie pizza for dinner w/a diet 7up while watching Charlie Brown’s Valentine’s Day thingy on Netflix. :| Then I made chocolate mousse as we’re gonna celebrate tonight instead. My bf was going to get us tickets to a ballet but we are going…
  • For the last few years I've considered my goal weight to be 145. I've been maintaining at 170 (after dropping 50ish pounds a few years ago) and have had little success dropping below, but I keep trying. My lowest weight in high school was 136 and I had to work to get to that. Now that I'm 37 that doesn't seem realistic.…
  • I think this is a question you can only ask yourself. It's absolutely worth it to me, but I don't eat meat at all because of the ethics of it. I can also afford to be choosey. It's a priority of mine to follow my conscious. If I were poor or starving or it meant the difference between being able to feed my family or not…
  • If you want the field greens side salad you could ask for it without cheese or bacon and have the dressing on the side. Then dip your fork in the dressing for each bit instead of pouring the whole thing on. You can do that with any of the salads to make them fewer calories, really. Leave off some of the more calorie dense…
