  • I have my fitbit on my non-dominant hand but tell Fitbit that it’s on my dominant hand. That improves accuracy for me. Otherwise, I think I was getting extra credit for things like opening a door, pulling the laundry out of the machine or buying groceries.
  • Female mid 40s 5'4" medium-large frame (wrist test suggest medium, broad shoulders suggest large, DEXA scan indicated bone mass in 90 percentile) high weight: 217 current weight: 178 goals: - short term: 155 (my lowest weight from last 5 years) - realistic: 145-149 - stretch: 139 I'm aiming for an "athletic" body.
  • I add egg white to my oatmeal (porridge). It doesn't add that many calories but the protein helps fill me up.
  • frosted mini wheats has more iron than Cheerios. I recommend going to the grocery aisle and reading the boxes to find an alternative you like better.
  • I have similar stats. I'm 43 yrs, 5'4" and work a desk job from my home office. I'm 35 pounds overweight. My equilibrium calories if I don't get out and exercise is between 1500-1600 calories. When I had 12+ months of strength training under my belt 2 years ago, my muscle mass was bigger and I was burning more like 1700.…
  • I am a binge eater too. Like you, I get the urge to eat, but it's not actual physical hunger. It's more of a want to put something in my mouth / chew something / feel food in my throat want. For me, it's been an "ah-ha" to figure out that the urge to binge feels different than actual hunger. That meant the nutrition…
  • This analogy did not work for me at all because I would definitely pick option 1 - get rich quick, spend it all just as quick and be poor again. But that's because I see money as a tool rather than part of my identity. Money gives me satisfaction when it is spent and not when it is hoarded. Hoarding money is a risk adverse…
  • I really enjoyed Canyon Ranch Miami. I was there 5 days and thought I'd share a bit about my experience for anyone considering going. This is long, but hopefully useful to anyone headed there. I had the DEXA scan and Metabolic Exercise Asessment done (add on cost). These were definitely worth it. Now I know my exact body…
  • I'm headed to Canyon Ranch Miami Beach for a few days. I understand it's more "a la carte" than the Tuscon or Berkshires properties. I've never been before. Any advice on how to get the most out of it?
  • Just mix it in before you heat it. I use quick oats and microwave. Add three table spoons of liquid egg whites and an extra tablespoon or two of water. Stir it up very well. The oatmeal may look more liquidy before cooking than you are used to, but the egg white will firm up as it cooks..Stop and stir about halfway through…
  • yeah, I think those raisins were adding too many extra calories. I think you'd get more bang for your buck with variations of fresh fruit instead of dried fruit. I add liquid egg white and soluble powdered fiber to my oatmeal before heating. Neither affects the flavor but the egg white makes the oatmeal texture a bit…
  • dried seaweed snacks tinned octopus - especially the ones in marinara sauce freeze dried veg & fruit (Target sells them - peas, corn, blueberries, etc.) yogurt jello (make sugar free jello, but replace the cold water with Greek yogurt, blend & set in fridge)
  • I use my regular favorite salad dressings, but just cut in half with other appropriate liquids. Depending on the dressing flavor, that might be: - tomato juice (V8 juice works really well) - lemon juice - orange juice - milk - balsamic vinegar Also, to be satisfied with less dressing, it really helps to flavor the salad…
  • I am beautiful and fit. The me inside is a muscular sexy girl. I'm tan and lusciously blonde with nice curves. My shoulders are broad, but since my boobs are perky round and my waist is small, I look balanced. I have nice legs with rock hard muscular thighs. I can wear short shorts because I have a toned round butt. I am…
  • My desk is a No Snack Zone. I find that's the only way for me to keep control. Otherwise, when I get focused on work, I quickly lose track of how much I am eating. If I don't really _see_ the food with my eyes or notice it going down my throat then my mind never figures out that I am supposed to be satiated. I go to the…
  • I'm almost 43. I 5'4" and weigh 161-164 ish. My net equilibrium is ~1700-1800 net. Your numbers don't look unrealistic to me. I think there are much bigger differences in the energy people's bodies burn than folks realize. If you read any of the weight loss studies, you see graphs with individual results all over the…
  • Blokeypoo said "selfish if you don't have kids" is completely illogical. the way I see it, it's the childbearers who are selfish. those of us without kids are net givers to society by working without taking out resources to raise our offspring. we pay taxes, but then don't use the school system. we pay medical insurance,…
  • To clarify, I do try to restrict movement for exercise which will strenuously stress the ligaments. For running, I wear an underwire sports bras with a running top over it. My running tops have one of those shelf compression bras built in. For me, the key is using a proper shaped underwire sports bra rather than just one…
  • another study here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2092072 I find it surprising that considering how much money is made in the lingerie industry, not a single company has released a study showing that bras prevent sagging. It seems like Nike, or Moving Comfort, or Victoria Secret or Warner's, or anybody should have…
  • activities like this are measured as average burn during the activity. that means for the amount of time you are actually doing it ... the time you are skiing down the hill.....not the time you are riding in the lift or waiting in the line. however, the amount of time you are waiting in the line is not complete…
  • Also, it's okay to have that plan written down in a book, pad, or in your phone. Folks sometimes complain about people using their phone instead of working out, but that's only a complaint if you sit on the equipment blocking it. No shame in stepping to the side and reviewing your plan -- especially if the next piece of…
  • the damn Doubletree cookie! And the folks at the check in desk always really push you to take it too!
  • I make breakfast burritos from my wraps and freeze them. I make a big batch of scrambled eggs/egg whites with various veggies (peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, etc). Sometimes I add black beans. Season to your taste with pepper, hot sauce, parsley, basil, or oregano, etc. Then, add some shredded cheese/parm cheese.…
  • 3 pounds up over the 2 weeks. boo.
  • ^^^LOVE this! Your pic is beautiful but it's amazing when you see it in numbers!
  • nice beard, but 3 inches? THIS is a 3 inch beard http://www.northantstelegraph.co.uk/news/top-stories/earls-barton-s-father-christmas-to-retire-1-5730853
  • Oh, the logic! I can barely stand it!
  • Do you wear high heels often? Women who wear high heels all the time get a shortened toghter calf muscle. I had this problem and I had calf pain when I started. It does go away, but you need to make sure you are gradually easing into it. I also did C25K. It's actually the perfect was to do it. I saw podiatrist who gave me…
