Fair enough.

That's a bit drastic for someone who just has the toots!

I won't be counting but won't gorge. Every year on Thanksgiving my family does something fun and active together to help work off some of the extra. We've gone for long walks, bowling, and one year we went roller skating! My sister suggested a Turkey Trot this year but nobody wants to get up too early

I agree 100%, Side Steel. Nothing worse than opening the fridge door and staring at a whole lot of nothing you want to eat. Having a stockpile of high-protein stuff (hard-boiled eggs, grilled chicken breast, etc.) has helped me hugely. I'm never without a quick lunch. When I don't have them, I make choices I wish I hadn't…

Greek yogurt with honey or All Fruit (kind of like jam) and granola is delicious. If you hate it though, don't eat it. A protein shake with fruit will give you a nice dose.

Are you too skinny? People say stuff like that because they don't know how else to comment and they feel they have to say something. If your weight is in the normal BMI range and not underweight, ignore it.

"You need new underwear, Woman. Those are looking saggy." ~said the appreciative spouse.

When I got fit before (before my last baby) I stalled out well above my goal weight. I started working out with weights, and I stayed stalled for a good six weeks. Something made me stick with it, and the scale moved... A lot. Keep at it and don't give up. Also, it don't hurt to get super-focused on your food weighing and…

Just don't let it become an every day thing. A couple of days a week where you eat less because you're not hungry is NOT a big deal. It gives you wiggle room later in the week. I have days where I eat a ton of vegetables and feel full, then I have days where I want a big cheeseburger and ice cream. Look at your weekly…

Have you thought about getting a Fitbit or some other step-tracking device? On busy days, I find that it motivates me to squeeze in extra steps where I might not have done so before. Well done, what you're doing.
-
Yep. Recipe builder. And your dish sounds AMAZING.
-
I don't log every day but I'm super-aware. It never leaves my mind. I rock my Fitbit and just try to lose a little at the end of the week.

Oh gosh. I won't pretend to get it but I will say that when I told my mom, "Hey, this is dumb. I'm a grown up and this is ridiculous..." things changed. You don't have to apologize for the way you do things. Moms grow too. Edited to add: This conversation happened between my mom and me when I was 40. "MOM! I'm 40 years…

"You don't throw yourself down the whole flight of stairs when you trip on one step." "Never put anything that isn't delicious into your mouth."

I track diligently... sometimes. Maybe 25-50% of the time. I lose more when I do, and I maintain or lose slowly when I don't. When I don't track, I still try to eat well. It all shakes out and the weight is going down, so good deal. I also wear my Fitbit every day without fail and aim for a daily burn of at least 2200…

Check the ingredients carefully. I use the import feature, but I always have go in enter alternatives for the ingredients. Today I imported a recipe that had bottled roasted red peppers and it substituted with paprika!

These just came out of the oven. Recipe follows! Baked apples with oatmeal cookie crumble (This one came out to 205 calories per serving, 4 g. fiber, 8 g. fat.) Toss together: 4 apples, sliced (I leave the peels on for extra nutrition.) 2 T. flour 1 T. sugar 1 t. cinnamon Place the apple mixture in 5-6 ramekins or a small…

I have two teens with part-time jobs, a six-year-old, and a partner. I cook dinner every night for whomever is home--it's often just us and the little one, and I make plates for the older kids to eat when they get home or for lunch the next day. We are usually all home for a few hours on Sunday afternoons, so I've started…

I just posted this in another thread... Then saw your post! Sorry if you've already seen it. Here's a quick one and only about 200 calories per serving. My kids really like it too. Lemon-garlic baked shrimp and broccoli Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Topping: Combine 1/2 c. panko or plain bread crumbs, grated rind of one…

I drink a lot of wine.

Man, I want to go out to lunch today. I'd get the mussels! The meze board sounds fun too. If the soup of the day is broth based, maybe you could do that with a salad. Some of those look amazing.

I just went to Pinterest and searched "healthy recipes college." Lots of good stuff there.

I love Eatingwell.com. If you go to Pinterest and search "healthy family recipes" you'll find a ton of inspiration. I love to browse there for ideas.

I'm 43 with 3 kids... Sending you a friend request! To echo what's been already said, this does not have to be hard. I have my macros set to 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. When I started logging diligently, I almost never got it right. But it was such a good exercise for me... I'd say it took about a month and then I had…

Well said. The potato-plus-toppings example is very helpful!

Hmmmm... If your TDEE is really 1850, you'd have to cut 1000 calories a day to...850? How did you calculate TDEE?

I don't log regularly but I'm very aware of what I eat. I had maintained pretty much the same weight for years. Every couple of months I'll log for a few days or a week to keep myself in check. When I got a Fitbit, I was motivated to not be so lazy and I started to average more than 500 calories per day in extra burn just…

This was really interesting! Thanks for sharing.

The gifs in this post have been the best ever! I'd like to note that squats don't really give you a big butt, they give you a nice lift. Like two little Gem Donuts (a guy from high school said this once and it stuck in my head). Signed, Spongemom Squarepants
