  • FWIW I get the same pain occasionally after a run if I have poor stride posture. Namely if I heel strike a lot. I'm not qualified to diagnose it, but you are not alone.
  • Sorry for the wall of text, I just realized how long that was....
  • You didn't mention if this is your first bike so I am going to assume you are a complete newb. If you have basic bike knowledge and are just getting into road bikes you can skip the first paragraph. The first thing you need to do on a new bike is get properly fitted. Most shops will hook your bike up to a trainer and let…
  • I had a Thinner scale from Sharper Image years ago that was pretty good and while its probably not around anymore I am sure its predecessor should be in your price range. I currently use a Aria from Fitbit and love it but its out of your price range. A quick note, all digital scales are going to have some degree of…
  • Cadence refers to the number (or more specifically the rate) of steps you take while running.
  • Precisely. Chi Running is all about form and posture to minimize effort level. Cadence should stay the same regardless of pace and your strike should always be in line with your upper torso. The thing that changes is the distance your stride covers.
  • I solved my pronation (is that a word? lol) by getting into Chi Running. I used to overpronate but last time I was fitted for shoes at my LRS they said I longer pronate. To answer your question I am wearing Brooks Pure Cadences.
  • Cantaloupe and avocado are high in potassium.
  • About a month ago I got stuck in a downpour about half way through a 10 mile run. It was one of the most pleasurable running experiences I have had. The rain kept me nice and cool and I ran at nearly a full minute per mile less than I normally can. I did find my shirt was annoying me because it was sticking to my chest so…
  • I did a midnight 5k run a few weeks ago. I didn't do anything special for it, mainly because the distance is fairly short (my short runs are normally 5 miles). I PR'ed in the race by a full minute and a half (in fairness I hadn't run a 5k race in a long time). I did take a nap earlier in the day but that is my normal…
  • Second nearly all of this. I have also been listening to a lot of Mastodon and The Sword lately.
  • The way I read it I doubt the appendix. I believe the appendix is more in the front than the side (IIRC it is a line with the right nipple). Like others though I am not a doctor. From the description I would say maybe the liver is getting compressed while running? The liver in on the right side and is close the muscle wall…
  • I tentatively disagree. Since I updated my stride lengths it has been pretty accurate for running but not at all for biking (which is to be expected since there are no steps involved). I haven't been on an elliptical since I updated my stride but I seem to remember it lowballing it as well. It also does not register any…
  • Also agree. There are some potential alternatives but their accuracy is questionable. Look at the Body Bugg, BodyFit, and Amiigo. I have no experience with them. I personally use a Fitbit for non-cardio tracking and a TomTom Multisport watch for tracking solid state cardio.
  • Get checked, but I experienced it.
  • Both good ideas. Thanks guys!
  • I'm a glutton for punishment, sign me up. According to Endo I am at 1501 total since last year. I have a few dozen runs in Runtastic but probably not much mileage so I will just ignore it.
  • This is a good point since OP is pressed for time. A crock pot might be an ideal way to cook them. Its really all about the time, cooking them is really hands off.
  • Fatback is the best if you can get it. Ham hocks work really well, too. Especially if you can get the bone so the marrow cooks in.
  • Here is my go to: 1 equal part collard, spinach, and turnip greens 1 slice bacon per cup of greens 1/4 - 1/2 cup water per cup of greens (the greens cook down a lot so go easy on the water or it will be soupy) Garlic, salt, pepper to taste Dice and fry the bacon in a pot large enough to hold all the greens. Once the bacon…
  • Not sure how new you are to this, so if you know about it or are already doing it feel free to ignore. If you are having joint pain then there is likely something wrong with your form. Look into Chi Running or Perfect Running Form and make sure you have been fitted for proper shoes at a reputable running shoe store.
  • 5mph isn't bad at all if you can maintain it the whole half. There will be plenty of people behind you.
  • Its perfectly normal to fluctuate up to five pounds if you weigh on a daily basis. Also, if you drank lots of water after ingesting tons of sodium you are going to retain most of it, it takes a couple days to flush out. Like others said, just keep with your normal plan and act like the day didn't happen. What's the point…

  • Treadmills are notorious for being out calibration and reporting false speeds. That could likely be your issue, you think you are doing a 12 minute mile but are actually doing a 15 because the treadmill hasn't been calibrated since it was installed, if even then. There are a number of other factors that affect running…
  • Posting this on my lap day made this twice as funny.

  • QFT. I had three Clif bars during a bike ride the other day and was nearly ejected from the house afterwards.

  • I am about 10 pounds lighter now than I was in high school. In fairness, I was a bit more muscular then.
  • There is a difference between being sore, stiff, and injured. If you just couldn't extend your arm all the way I would say sore or stiff. However, if the pain is acute then I would lean more towards injury. Its hard to say because A) we are on the internet and likely thousands of miles apart and B) I am not a doctor. If…
