  • Hi everyone! I was cleared to start riding again last week, and then I got knocked on my butt by a bad cold that's been going around. Today was my first day back on the bike & it felt so good!! How's it going for everyone else?
  • I had a setback with my knee this week, and my physical therapist wants me to stop all exercise until next week so my knee can rest. Of course this had to happen just when I was getting back into my early morning routine, but hopefully I can get back on track on Monday. So annoying!
  • I REALLY want to crawl back into bed, but instead I'm heading to the basement to ride the recumbent bike & do some knee stretching/strengthening exercises.
  • Day 3 done. Tomorrow and Friday might be tough because my grandchildren will be here -- small children and early morning workouts aren't a good combo IME, but I'll do what I can.
  • Day one done! 9.5 miles on the recumbent bike (all I can do until my knee is better) by 6 a.m. It feels SO good to have that out of the way, especially after slacking off for the past few days with the holiday & caring for sick grandchildren. I've been feeling a teeny bit guilty, although I shouldn't have.
  • I put my phone on the other side of the room so I have to physically get out of bed to turn the alarm off. Some people swear by sleeping in their exercise clothes, but I usually just lay mine out the night before.
  • My workout's done for the day. :)
  • I was up at 4 & on the recumbent bike by 4:30. It was -9 at our house this morning, so getting my butt into the cold, dark basement was a challenge, but I did it.
  • I'm in! I've exercised at 4 or 4:30 a.m. for years, but I got off track over the summer because of an injury, and now I can't get my motivation back.
  • So sorry for what you're going through. I was restricted to a soft food/liquid only diet for just over 7 years because of my jaw joints, so I know how hard this can be. Cottage cheese was a staple in my diet, and I used to puree different fruits or veggies to mix in with it for variety. I also used to make meatloaf (or…
  • I've been in maintenance for 6 1/2 years, but I'm still in the gym by 4:30 on weekdays & 6 a.m. on weekends. I don't have time after work, and I just feel so much better mentally when I exercise first thing.
  • This. You should be pain-free before you even consider picking up a weight. Once you do start with weights, your form needs to absolutely perfect or you risk a serious injury. I have herniated discs at L4-L5 and L5-L6, plus a synovial cyst in the same region. I'm not a surgical candidate, so I spent 8 weeks doing physical…
  • Feel free to add me. I restarted Stronglifts yesterday after 5 months off because of an injury. I have to start with ridiculously light weights, but it's a start.
  • I was 3 months in to Stronglifts & loving it when I got sidelined by a herniated disc in my neck. I've finished physical therapy & have been cleared to start lifting with light weights again, but I've been struggling with the motivation to actually DO it. Maybe this thread is the kick in the butt I need to get going again.
  • I've found adding epsom salt to a warm bath, physical therapy and staying active to be the most helpful, but you should really talk to your doctor.
  • Oikos Banana Creme is my current fave. It's very smooth & also quite tasty with a couple of teaspoons of natural peanut butter stirred in.
  • Lifting, cycling, hiking and disc golf. When I'm not playing, I'm maintaining the course hubby & I own.
  • I'm in Maine.
  • Co-signed. I've been working out at 4 a.m. for years, and it still sucks, although some days more than others. Yeah, sometimes I tell myself I need more sleep, but that doesn't happen as much as it used to. I do it in the mornings because I work two jobs and I know myself well enough to know if it doesn't get done before…
  • I had my jaw joints replaced in 2003, and prior to that I had 16 surgeries on my jaw from 1997-2003. I couldn't chew anything more than overcooked pasta--even that triggered excruciating pain--so most of my diet was liquid. No matter how much I consumed, I always felt hungry and I constantly craved hard or crunchy things.…
  • This. I have access to a small gym at work that I use occasionally, but my lunch breaks are too unpredictable to make it a regular thing. Plus, my co-workers think nothing of coming down there to ask me questions, and that gets really annoying. I'm up by 4 a.m. most days, so I just work out in my basement--I can wear what…
  • I've had hemiplegic migraines for 30+ years, and mine are triggered by certain foods (cheese is a huge no-no for me) stress, atmospheric changes, flashing lights, and allergies--I'm severely allergic to grass pollen, and I can count on at least one migraine every June when the pollen count is high. In my late teens & early…
  • I've also been diagnosed with dysautonomia, and I've learned that staying well hydrated, increasing my sodium intake and getting regular exercise are key to managing it. I've had seizures and gone into shock on three separate occasions from my bp dropping so low, and many more days when I can't even get out of bed--at one…
  • I'm usually in the gym by 4:15 or 4:30 a.m. and I just don't have an appetite that early. If I do eat first, it's something small like 1/2 a banana or a few crackers with peanut butter. Anything more would require getting up earlier, and that ain't gonna happen.
  • I had a partial laproscopic hysterectomy with robotic assist in 2011. I had almost 20 years of very heavy, never-ending periods, so in 2008, I had an endometrial ablation and one ovary removed due to a large mass. Later I developed some very large fibroids in my uterus & had the hyst because my doc was concerned they'd…
  • My sister does this & has for years, every single time she goes to the gym. She also takes it one step further & rewraps her belly at bed time if she didn't get enough of a "burn" at the gym. She didn't talk to me for over 3 months the last time I pointed out she's wasting a whole lot of plastic for nothing.
  • I love them but I stopped eating them because the bloat was out of control. I get the same reaction from any bar/powder that contains whey protein.
  • This was a staple in our house growing up. And poutine is divine.
