When my brother couldn't chew after jaw surgery, mom made soup and pureed it in the blender.

Here's my breakfast smoothie. I don't like cold this time of year so use freshly brewed tea as the liquid to warm it up. I soak the chia seeds overnight in a little water on the counter because I like them nice and soaked. You could of course skip them if you don't want to risk them getting caught.

Thank you for the recipe. Right now I am going to skip the chia seeds to be safe, but will keep them in mine for when the stitches come out.

I'm not the biggest fan of eggs and I have a feeling the siracha might burn.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who gave suggestions. I even trying. A lot of what has been suggested and finding things I like/work and what won't work/hurts to eat. Sadly, it looks like I will be on a soft food diet for a while. After following up with a specialist and several more X-rays, it looks like I have a small hairline fracture in my jaw and therefore won't be able to chew for a while. Thankfully, since it's small and not completely through the bone, he does not believe I need wiring or plates. Thank you again everyone.

So sorry for what you're going through. I was restricted to a soft food/liquid only diet for just over 7 years because of my jaw joints, so I know how hard this can be. Cottage cheese was a staple in my diet, and I used to puree different fruits or veggies to mix in with it for variety. I also used to make meatloaf (or turkey loaf) in muffin tins and then mash it up so I didn't have to chew. Other than that, it was mostly greek yogurt, eggs, pasta & protein shakes.

I hope you feel better soon!

I don't know if I would recommend chia pudding with stitches in. I know I get chia seeds stuck in my lower bar retainer (left from after having braces) and I imagine they could get caught around stitches too.

I'll also make an explicit suggestion about soups: you might consider a blended black bean soup. They can be very flavourful and filling, and black beans pack a good amount of protein. There's a fair chance you are low on protein with a soft-food-only diet.

Agree!! As good as they are I think they would cause you more grief!

Rice porridge. It's basically rice in some kind of stock and meant to be eaten as a meal. Check google images for ideas. Can be as watery or lumpy as you like. You can mix stuff in it, too, like pork or shrimp (perhaps not if you can't chew, though).

It's an easy way of getting in the calories when you're not well. My mum always gave it to us as a child. I loved it. #lazy
