  • You can't have both. You either kill the program outright or let it exist where fraud is inevitable. Besides, your comment is rich w/ unsupported dramatic hyperbole (I've seen it abused far too many times... really? A recent GAO study reported about a 3% overpayment of SNAP benefits SO MUCH FRAUD!!!). The vast majority of…
  • Personally, I just eat. No counting, no fretting, just eat. Spent a week in Hawaii (my home state, so I ate everything I could that I can't get here in the mainland). But my tastes have changed for the better since starting my weightloss journey. Despite eating what I wanted, I've changed in that I crave more fresh foods…
  • If anything else that makes for healthy pooing.
  • I've eaten them all my life, mostly as an add-in to other dishes such as sukiyaki. Growing up, however, I used to eat them w/ a little lemon juice and soy sauce. Yum.
  • Interesting points as all the literature I've read thus far overwhelmingly favor animal based proteins over plant based, mostly due to superior biological values with whey concentrate and whey isolate. I'm not complete convinced yet that excess arginine is necessary as its a naturally occurring substance that your body…
  • BTW, since starting, not only has my weight gone down, but so has my BP, my blood sugar levels (after an overnight fast) are much improved (I was borderline diabetic last year, much improved this year), as are my cholesterol levels (blood work as a whole, actually).
  • One thing I've noticed about MFP is you have those who have that all or nothing attitude and those like you who still eat what they want, just in smaller portions. I've just come to terms with it. That's their weight loss journey, not mine. Either way is not right or wrong. It just is. Myself, I splurge, but make the…
  • Looking at your food diary there is room for improvement, but I also see net loss more often than net gain. Are you logging religiously/exactly? Do you have a food scale? If you don't, $20 will get you a reliable and cheap one. I weigh my foods to the gram. Even in recipes.
  • Rage Against the Machine, end of thread.
  • I made small adjustments week to week. The easiest, by far, was cutting out alcohol on the weekends, or limiting it to a drink or two (max). Lots of empty calories in those pint glasses, unfortunately. Another small adjustment could be replacing fries w/ a salad. Stepping up my exercise definitely helps by giving me a…
  • My personal experience is slow and steady wins the race. I use to wrestle and have done the whole cutting weight thing in my day. The only problem? I gained it all back at the drop of a hat. On this go around I've been trying to lose slow and stead... 28 lbs over the last 3.5 months... essentially 2 lbs a week, but really…
  • BTW, I made the switch to cardiologist from oncologist as your risk of dying of heart disease is much greater than cancer for the average smoker. That is, if you want a more relevant comparison.
  • Oncologist, Pulmonologist, Cardiologist... doesn't really matter if they smoked. They still went to 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of med school, x years of residency (depending on focus) and year to year continuing education credentialing. I'd still say their opionion mattered. I don't see a lot of smoking cardiologists…
  • I actually agree with the sox fan (hard to admit from a mariner fan). Just correcting a couple false assumptions, and marvelling at the intensity of the response. To twinkie diet guy, I bet that professor was hungry as all heck for those 10 weeks.
  • Kraft low fat toasted sesame.
  • Alcoholics do mediate AA meetings. Just an FYI. As far as I know, fat has no bearing on knowledge (regarding the overweight nutritionist comment). A doctor who smokes still has some credibility, no? Lighten up, I think his response was meant to be taken tongue in cheek. I hardly think anyone would truly try a twinkie diet.
  • Just want to add that potatoes with skin have tons of potassium...k?
  • Eat the real eggs... take the time to separate the whites if you're concerned about the fat/cholesterol. Egg Beaters taste awful... yechh...
  • Everybody loves an omelet. Can't go wrong w/ egg whites with low fat cheese and lots of veggies (mushrooms, asparagus, onion... anything you want really). Serve w/ a light salad on the side. Love mines w/ a dash of Tapatio on top.
  • Your eldest is 14? Do you have a Wii console or Xbox 360? Get some of those dance games and work up a sweat. Get the kids involved too.
  • I mix up raw almonds and dried fruits (especially cranberries/blueberries from Trader Joes). However, the dried fruit is packed w/ sugar, so try to have more almonds.
  • Egg beaters... yuck. Something about them just taste off. Would rather just have plain old whites, thank you.
  • Looks like you're from Hawaii... I was raised there, but moved to the mainland for college. Any way, I like mines raw. Silken tofu topped w/ grated ginger, green onion, bonito flakes and shoyu. Winnahs!
  • Making turkey burgers seasoned w/ parmesan, garlic, minced onion and an egg (as a binder), topped w/ low fat provolone and a hunk of tomato. Put that in between some sandwich thins for a calorie total of about 275 cal. I'm eating mine w/ a side of hummus and baby carrots. Grand total? About 325.
  • Oh and chard cooked w/ EVOO, garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice.
  • YES.... dahl! Lentils are the bomb.com Even just boiled and lightly buttered... paired w/ some chicken sausage, grilled tomato and a poached egg... great breakfast.
  • *like* Have a beer every now and then. Life's too short. The 150+ calories per pint shouldn't hurt too bad as long as it's not everyday/more than one. I had beer last Saturday. First pint of Stella that I've had since the new years. It was tasty, and after one, quite satisfying. Just make sure you adjust your calories…
  • Besides, iron has a tendency to back you up...
  • Quinoa Chinese Greens Collared Greens Okra Sweet Potato Yucca Plantains Chayote Beans Grilled Veggies (peppers, zuchinni, brocolli, etc.) Lots and lots of choices.
  • Spaghetti with chicken Italian sausage. Under 350 calories a serving.
