  • Thank you errata - that link is super helpful!
  • Trust me - I'm not stupid. I've been to the doctor more times than I can count. I've taken all the meds for whooping cough - unfortunately, the cough lingers. I've spoken with the CDC (they are contacted when someone is diagnosed with WC) and they said to expect the cough to last about 3-4 months. Other than being…
  • What is your workout? If you're lifting, you need to add some protein to that breakfast. You may also just be going too low on calories for breakfast if you're working out hard. I find that if I'm lifting and don't get enough protein/calories afterwards, I have a slump an hour or two later. The strange thing is, at that…
  • The best time to exercise is when you know you'll do it. As much as I hate dragging my butt to the gym at the crack of dawn, I know that I will make excuses not to go after work. I always feel so happy when I've completed my workout and I know it isn't hanging over my head.
  • What Al pine says! If you just go into the weight room with no purpose then you'll feel intimidated. Take some time to make a plan - determine what you're going to do there and then make a spreadsheet that includes the different exercises with a section for weight and reps. Take a look at some videos (lots on youtube) of…
  • Yes! Just go to the apps tab at the top of the MFP website and follow the directions from there.
  • Yes - I would love to see as well! I started lifting last year but was sidelined with an injury about 2 months into it. Getting started back up now and could use some motivation!
  • Thanks! I feel like such an invalid - I was imagining my muscles shrinking before my eyes. I worked hard for the little muscle I got - I was worried that I would have to start from zero again :)
  • Love being tall and always have! I was 5'11 but now I'm 5'10 - 5'10 1/2 half on a good day - lol! I think the timing of our growth spurt has a lot to do with how we feel about being tall. I was fairly average in height until my Jr. year in high school, and kept growing until the end of my sophmore year in college. It was…
  • What sort of equipment do you have at home for lifting? Before I got into heavier lifting/strength training (oh - yes, they're the same thing) I started with this workout at home: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/lose-weight/metabolism/metabolism-boosting-superset-workout/ There are videos for each move which helps.…
  • Let me know how it goes - I got a trainer to show me how to do front squats and they killed my collarbones. I'm super bony in my shoulder/neck/collarbone area and couldn't find a comfortable resting spot. I'm going to keep trying though - determined to get it!
  • You should be super proud - great arms are hot!
  • I usually go to the gym 3 days a week. My workout is as follows: 10 minute warm-up on a bike or eliptical (I get bored so I do 30 second sprints) Bench Press Rows Overhead Press Squats (or weighted lunges) Deadlifts Bicep Curls Tricep (different tricep exercise every time) seated calf raises stretch I do one light warm up…
  • I love barre workouts! I've used The Barre Method DVDs (you can get them on their website for about $20 - amazon charges almost double that). I have also heard that Booty Barre and Physique 57 are great - I'm going to try those next since they cancelled ALL the Barre classed at my gym :(
  • I love Burn at the Barre. It looks easy but is so hard and I'm super sore afterwards. I wear a heart rate monitor to class and usually burn about 500 calories.
  • For fun I put 150 on the weights (10 pounds heavier than me) and I was still having to pull myself up. So - it's not a direct pound to pound ration. I looked up the machine online but couldn't find any info so I'll just try to improve and not worry about it I guess.
  • It's totally clear now! :)
  • Hi - I have been playing around with the assisted pull up machine (because I am nowhere near able to do a pull on on my own - yet). I'm so confused! It has weights in 10 pound increments and you can choose how much weight you want assisted. Right now I weigh about 140. I set it up to 105 pounds and couldn't pull myself up.…
  • I guess it doesn't REALLY matter what the weights say as long as I'm challenging myself. I just like to know exactly what I'm doing/lifting - it's motivating :) I'll just continue to motivate myself by taking weight off the assisted lift until I can do it without the machine. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
  • ^^^^^This! "The right" TSH is different for everyone. You will know when you feel right and when you feel off. Get a good endocrinologist that can find your correct levels - which will be different than other people's correct levels. And if you don't feel right, don't let them tell you that your levels are normal! Go to…
  • Is it possible to go see an endocrinologist? I think that a lot of times people do take a "wait and see" approach to raised TPO antibodies, but 6 months seems like a long time to wait. I read somewhere that taking selenium helps with raised TPO antibodies - maybe do some research and see if there is anything to that. Try…
  • Thank you! I will definitely try the speed thing, I don't think I've focused on that at all. My elbows go out a little but I was told to keep them close to my sides if possible. I'm weaker that way so I think I automatically flare out a little to get that last bit of power, Thanks for the help!
  • Hi - I was diagnosed with Hypothyroid in my mid 20s and it really scared me. Here are some things to keep in mind: 1. NEVER take generic Synthroid. Always insist on the brand name drug. I started on the generic based on one doctor's prescription (my general care physician) and things went from bad to worse. I gained…
  • If I saw the same girl twice I might ask. As it is, the only people I see repeatedly are people already working out with a partner. Hopefully someone has some ideas!
  • One thing you may want to do now is take some measurements. Because if you start gaining muscle, you may go up in weight even if you're losing fat. It's hard not to focus on the scale number when you don't know what's happening but if you have measurements that are going down then you know any weight gain is related to…
  • I had one and experienced the same thing. Some people are very negative but you just can't let them get to you. It's your body and your life and, it turns out their opinions are just that - personal opinions. Just make sure you do your research before on the pros and cons of over the muscle vs. under the muscle, different…
  • I will definitely live up to the challenge. I'm not sure I'll be able to chart and track everything exactly as I've been but I'm going to make this happen :) I used to travel just in the US and it was MUCH easier to find fitness options.
  • Welcome to the tall group! Unfortunately, the group isn't super active but it's always good to check in once in a while and everyone seems really supportive. Good luck on your journey!

  • Oh man - quitting soda is so hard! I used to be a die-hard Diet Dr. Pepper fanatic and quit cold turkey. I switched to plain water and iced tea. About 6 months later I bought a single can of Diet Dr. Pepper to take with me to the beach and it was so disappointing - not nearly as good as I remembered. My husband recently…
