I use to live on mfp and took some years off to get myself straight with obsessive diet behavior BUT this used to be one of my favorite threads and I'm so glad it's still here! All of you are so badass!

Carb heavy foods (especially whole grains) are generally full of great gut cleaning fiber which can leave you feeling bloated and fatigued if you eat too many in a sitting. Sweet potatoes are great for energy. A calorie-dense, tastey carb with lots of micro-nutrients. Fruits, nuts, and lean proteins are also great for an…

First, if your daughter is choosing a veg lifestyle make sure she is supplementing her Vitamin B12 because you cannot get that vit from a plant based lifestyle. If she is eating dairy she will get sone but just supplement to make sure she's getting enough. As far as preparation, keep in mind veggie based products dont…

I started Stronglifts 5x5 this week. My sister is taking some before photos for me on our cruise next week. Can't wait to compare some in progress photos. You all are inspiring. I have been following this thread for years and I absolutely love it!

Just started SL5X5. I was doing powerlifting last year but it just took too much time. Hoping the short workouts with 5x5 keep me in the gym lifting. Can't wait to see some progress!

#1 from a really loving and caring place, "Get over it." The only person losing out because you're intimidated is you. It's not any of the other Lunks in the weight room. #2 Men (jocks included) LOVE girls who lift #3 ask for a consultation and tell them you specifically want to focus on x, y, z movements. I would suggest…

You're over thinking and over researching this. Isolate the 2 things that have changed. You're not accurately keeping track of what you're eating and you're fasting. Change one of those two things for 3 days and see what happens to your energy level. If it doesn't change then that's probably not the problem. Also, calories…

Your biceps and triceps are tight and pulling on your elbow causing pain in your elbow. You need to allieviate the muscle tension. Take a lacrosse ball and roll out your triceps and biceps (you can Google how) at least 2x a day (fyi,it will probably hurt like hell but its the one time pain is good). You'll be amazed at the…

As athletes we are hard on our bodies. You definitely need to stretch and improve flexibility, but its more than that. Some of the best self care tools out there are lacrosse balls, foam rollers, e-stim therapy and of course massage therapists, physical therapists and select chiropractors.
-
That's great! You should also do it after your workout. If you're having pain try rolling them out 3x a day. I was recently in a car accident which exacerbated my elbow pain and now I'm working with a sports Chiropractor to fix it. He's done muscle manipulation, grasting, dry needling and e-therapy. It's not fun, but…

Roll your triceps and forearms out on a lacrosse ball. Its caused by muscle tightness.
-
Yes, your triceps and/or forearms are probably tight. Roll them out in a lacrosse ball multiple times a day. It hurts but its so worth it.
-
Keep in mind, pain is not normally caused by a movement or injury, it's usually caused by tight muscles. I have elbow pain and experience it mostly when I am trying to put my seat belt on, adjust my bra strap, or at the gym, in the front rack position. I have experienced elbow pain also doing triceps exercises. The problem…

That's because on the road you have to push yourself forward as opposed to a treadmill that, moves you forward. I'm the opposite, I hate running on a treadmill but I will admit its hard to get outside when its cold or hot out. Just remember the weather is just another excuse. Truth is I've done 3 very cold 5ks now (think…

You can't rely on motivation. It's not permanent. You need to have discipline and dedication. Do it even if you don't want to.
-
No you didn't. Drink a lot of water and cut out processed foods and sugar and you'll be back to pre wedding weight in a few days.
-
This. Hard to provide guidance without writing a 50 page book on the Paleo diet. I foudn the easiest thing to do to get started is to choose a meat, marinate it in olive oil and spices, and then choose a veggie. You've got your protein, fat, and carbs.

That happened to my friend after she lost 50 lbs. She complains about it constantly but I can't help but think, what a testament it was to how much those 50 lbs impacted her health. Though she was also only 25. At 56 you may want to ask your Dr.

Your PE teacher was an idiot.

You need to check your diet. You're missing something or eating something your body does not like. You also need to up your water intake. 1 oz per 1lb of body weight and double that in the summer. Also make sure you're properly warming up, stretch after workouts and look up some mobility videos on YouTube. Those will help.
-
You don't need youtube. Running, cycling, rowing, jump rope, burpees, box jumps are all great cardio tools. Use them to make your own workout.
-
Yes and it shootings like you need pistol squats in your life

Get a heart rate monitor. MFP is rarely close with its estimates. I created Crossfit in my exercise planner and log 60 minutes as 1 calorie so it doesn't mess up my calorie count but I can go back and see that I did exercise that day.
-
I won't go if I just do a regular gym, so I crossfit. But I wouldn't even consider it if I had to drive an extra hour and a half to do it.
-
I had a trainer at my gym do a very up close and personal stretch on me once. It was totally weird but worth it. The stretch was amazing!
-
Also, keep in mind women tend to be weaker in their upper body than men and when compared to their lower body strength, so it should be no surprise that you struggle with pushups. If your trainer is experienced they'll know that.

Its his/her job. If he/she doesn't like their job its his/her problem. No reason to feel bad for them, you're paying them!

This.

Yes and no. If you are new to weight lifting you'll get those newbie gains. If you've been lifting for a while and cutting the concensous is no. Though you could always eat at maintainence and recomp. That would really be the only way without bulking, but its a very slow process. Though don't confuse gaining muscle with…
